Mintonye Fields Get First-Ever Makeover Thanks to Community Volunteers

00:00It was wonderful, just coming together with the community, volunteering, they spent five plus hours here.

00:07We worked on murals, the dugouts got like a new facelift, we were able to hang up banners,

00:13grate the fields with lime and just do all these things to make this a more homey place.

00:19Head coach Heather Fisher has been with the program and the fields for seven years.

00:23This is the first time they've upgraded the area with new bat hangers, murals, bleachers and a communication board

00:28for those who may struggle with speaking.

00:30We had a local ABA company install a communication board for nonverbal and bringing neurodiversity to the fields

00:39and bringing that inclusiveness within our community because we accept all, we're welcoming to all

00:44and we want this to be just an atmosphere where we feel safe, we feel like we belong here.

00:51All sorts of volunteers came out to help the fields.

00:53Mintani Southwestern Summer Rec Program kids and McCutcheon students picked up trash,

00:57carried chalk bags, painted blue leaves, built bleachers and raked fields.

01:02Fisher said she counted 39 volunteers.

01:04The best part of it was like the kids were a part of it.

01:07The kids got to paint, the kids got to add their names in the dugouts and they felt accomplished.

01:13Even just coming back to the fields on Monday for practice, all the kids were running up like,

01:17I did this one, I did this one and I did that one.

01:19As a coach for kids that play softball and baseball on this field, this meant the world to Fisher

01:23that she could see the difference in these kids, but also from the time that she's been here.

01:27It's mindfully driving me where if we can accomplish something so great already,

01:34let's grow and accomplish that new field.

01:37Let's all raise money.

01:38Let's all work together within the community.
