00:00As the fires in California continue to burn, planning for the recovery process is just getting started.
00:06It's sad because you come through so many houses and so much burnt stuff, but it's a relief that we're coming here.
00:12More than a week after the Eaton Canyon fire sent people running from their homes.
00:17Some evacuees were finally allowed to return.
00:19Checkpoints leading back to their houses required photo ID and proof of residency,
00:24but it could be weeks before most of the 80,000 evacuated residents are allowed to go home.
00:30The danger now shifts to the threat of landslides and potentially toxic ash and debris.
00:36The rubble can contain asbestos, lead and other dangerous materials.
00:40This is a combination of a wildfire as well as an urban fire, which poses two different risks on everyone.
00:48Meanwhile, for firefighters, their focus remains on containment and support for those impacted.
00:53Crews are making progress on the Palisades and Eaton fires,
00:57but more danger could be around the corner when the Santa Ana winds kick up again next week.
01:05And fire officials are asking the public for more patience as they make their way through the damaged landscape.
01:11My apologies to all of you.
01:13We would love to be able to stop it next time, but I don't want to lie to you.
01:19It's going to be very difficult.
01:21The fires have also forced closure for at least 10 schools so far,
01:25and district officials are now scrambling to find classrooms for thousands of students.
01:30In Los Angeles County, Caroline Elliott, Fox News.
