00:00Today, Rupert strays into story-tale land in Rupert and the Golden Egg.
00:16There's a little bear that he's ever seen before, who's a lot of fun.
00:23Children everywhere know to love him more and more, he's the number one.
00:30There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done.
00:36And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:43Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
00:50Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join in all of his name.
01:05Rupert is reading a storybook, and Mrs. Bear thinks it's time he went out to get some exercise.
01:11You ought to save your storybooks for rainy days, Rupert.
01:16I've nearly finished, Mummy. It's ever so good. All about a giant.
01:20Mrs. Bear chuckles.
01:23Oh, run along, Rupert. I can see Bill Badger at the gate. I expect he wants you to come out.
01:29Hello, Rupert. Are you coming into the woods? We could play Red Indians and follow tracks.
01:36Yes, super. We haven't played Indians for a long time. I hope we find some good tracks to follow.
01:43A good tracker can tell something from just a broken blade of grass. That's what I call clever.
01:51Rupert and Bill are bending their backs. Eyes to the ground, they're looking for tracks.
01:57Then Rupert looks up, and suddenly sees they are out of the woods. There aren't any trees.
02:06Wizardy whiz, Bill. Look at this. Now we can do some tracking.
02:12Come on, Bill. We really are tracking now. Let's see where they lead to.
02:19Before long, the two chums see a house. I wonder who lives here.
02:25It doesn't look as though anyone is about. Let's take a look quietly.
02:33Look, Rupert. What sort of tree is that?
02:38Gosh! I can't see the top.
02:45While Rupert gazes in astonishment at the plant, Bill takes a look at the house.
02:51Just then, Rupert hears a cry for help.
02:55Help! Help!
02:58Hey, Bill! Bill, listen. Did you hear?
03:03I can't hear anything, Rupert. Must be the wind.
03:08I'm sure I did. It wasn't the wind.
03:12Help! Help! Help!
03:18There it goes again. I'd better find out where it's coming from.
03:23Up there. It must be up there.
03:27Bill, I'm going to see who needs help. You wait here, will you?
03:31You're hearing things, Rupert. All right, I'll sit here till you get back.
03:37Don't be long. It must be nearly tea time.
03:48Careful, Rupert!
03:50Soon, Rupert is out of sight of the ground below, and the plant is swaying in the breeze.
04:05As he climbs through a cloud, he suddenly sees that he's in another strange land, right outside a huge castle, and the cries for help are louder now.
04:17Help! Help! Up here!
04:22Rupert looks up and sees a boy waving from a window.
04:27But it's too high, and the opening is too small to think of climbing up there.
04:32I can't get up from the outside.
04:35Hello to you. I'm Goldie. I'm Goldie the goose who lays the golden eggs, and this is the giant's castle.
04:40But the giant won't be very pleased to see you.
04:44That's Jack up there. He climbed the beanstalk just like you when the giant captured him.
04:49That's why he's locked in up there.
04:52Well, we must rescue him.
04:54Must we? Well, you can rescue me, too.
04:58I'm fed up with staying here.
05:00Every time I lay a golden egg, the old giant steals it.
05:03If I could climb down that beanstalk, I'd be away. But I can't fly.
05:09Well, if you help me to rescue Jack, then you can come with us.
05:12Oh, thank you. Yes, I'll help you.
05:16I must just go to the laundry first and collect the clean washing for the castle.
05:20Then I'll come and help you.
05:23What do you collect it in?
05:25Why, a laundry basket, of course, and I push it on the cart.
05:28A basket. Of course, that's the answer. A basket.
05:34Is that the lot? I haven't left anything.
05:39That's the lot, Goldie. There won't be any more till tomorrow.
05:43Washing one of his shirts is like washing a blooming great tent.
05:46All right. See you tomorrow.
05:49I don't think.
05:53Goldie takes the laundry to the castle, and because she does it every day,
05:56the guards open the door and allow her through.
06:00But once inside, we find that there is more than laundry in the basket.
06:06Well done, Goldie. That was a very comfortable ride.
06:11Now, where's the room where Jack is?
06:13This way. Follow me.
06:15Follow me.
06:28Quick, hide. He's coming this way.
06:36That's good. He didn't see you. Come on, we're nearly there.
06:39This is it. Come on, push.
06:42But Rupert looks up, and sees the handle and key in the lock.
06:49It's no good pushing yet. Somehow we've got to unlock the door.
06:55And I can't reach up there.
06:57Well, perhaps I could. If I can stand on your back, I might just reach then.
07:02If you sit on my head, I'll lift you up to the handle of the door.
07:07Oh, I see.
07:09Go on. I've got a strong neck and a hard head. Sit on it.
07:13Go on.
07:15Sit. That's it.
07:17Now, whoops-a-daisy. Or is it buttercup?
07:20And slowly, Rupert rises to the lock on the door.
07:26The key's a bit stiff, but he turns it.
07:30And then the handle, which is too easy, and...
07:33All right. You can put me down now.
07:39Rupert soon has the door open.
07:42And Jack is free.
07:44The goose starts to tell Jack all about Rupert.
07:46Rupert interrupts.
07:48We haven't got time to talk. We must get out. Listen.
07:52All right. Follow me.
07:56Quick, round this corner. He's coming.
07:59It's the giant again.
08:00Shhh.
08:08Come on. He'll find the door open now, and he'll know that Jack is out. Quickly.
08:17This way. There's a small hole in the wall here.
08:21The giant can't follow through that, and we'll beat him to the beanstalk.
08:28He's found the room empty.
08:34He's decidedly not happy.
08:36Soon, the three fugitives are at the top of the beanstalk.
08:41Jack goes down first with the goose, while Rupert looks back to see how far behind them the giant is.
08:47Then he follows.
08:49Don't drop me, Jack. I'm only a story land goose. I can't really fly, and it's a long way down.
08:55Hurry up, you two. The giant's catching us up. Or is it down?
08:59Can you see the ground yet?
09:03I wonder what Rupert's been up to this time. This must be another of the adventures of Rupert Bear.
09:09I'll get my axe and chop it down. That'll fix him.
09:20Where's Jack? The giant's coming down. We must chop down the beanstalk.
09:25Here we are. Stand back, everybody.
09:27One, two, three, four.
09:32I thought Jack got away from the giant by himself.
09:35Ah, that's in the story books. But sometimes they get it all wrong.
09:40Look out, it's fallen.
09:42There she goes.
09:44That's put paid to the old giant.
09:47He's fallen straight back in the story time.
09:50With a headache, I hope.
09:52Mrs Bear says all the fresh air must have made Rupert and Bill hungry.
09:55So she gives them a big tea.
09:58And Rupert tells her of his adventure with Jack and the giant.
10:02And, of course, Goldie, the goose who lays the golden eggs.
10:06Oh, Rupert, I told you you're reading too many story books.
10:11You've been imagining things.
10:13Well, look at this mummy.
10:16I imagine it's gold.
10:18It's gold.
10:19Rupert, Rupert de Bell, everyone's in his name.
