00:00So, Sencia, what's up, girl?
00:01Pleasure to meet you, to e-meet you, you know,
00:03the times that we in.
00:06Yeah, so tell me.
00:07I got to ask real quick, with the cocoa bread,
00:08do you put the beef patty in the cocoa bread,
00:10or do you have it separate?
00:12Put it in it, of course, what you mean?
00:14I'm just making sure, because there's some people that,
00:16I don't know if it's like some of the Florida, you know,
00:18the West Indians down here, but some of them
00:20don't really do the beef patty inside the cocoa bread.
00:22So I'm trying to, like, question, you know, their-
00:25Those are jafakins, I'm telling you.
00:28That's right.
00:29You got to eat it together.
00:30What?
00:31I had to make sure that, I was a little confused.
00:34Because, you know, coming from where I come from,
00:36like, that's the norm.
00:38Yeah, it is.
00:40It tastes better.
00:41For sure.
00:41So tell me.
00:43Yeah, no, indeed.
00:44And tell me, man, you got this record, Lighters,
00:46with Taurus Riley.
00:48I mean, tell me what it's like, you know,
00:50working with a man of that caliber,
00:52who's been doing his thing for such a long time
00:54and is a legend in the game.
00:56Yeah, definitely to me, Tara
00:58stands out as an artist.
00:59I don't feel like there's anybody like him.
01:01There's no one that sounds like him.
01:03So for us to do that collaboration, I feel like there are a lot of many different people
01:09that they didn't expect this collab.
01:14So when they saw Shen Yang with Taurus Riley on a track, I don't think they knew what to expect.
01:23Until that song dropped, it was like a whole different heat for myself and for Taurus.
01:29Because so many persons have said, we're just seeing Taurus like this for the first time.
01:35How come Shen Tia broke out or how him get broke out?
01:37Do you get me?
01:38So he was talking that young boy look and everything trending, Ross, as we say.
01:43So it was crazy, man.
01:44The chemistry has been good because he has been working with me from the starting of my career.
01:49To me, I look up to him as a mentor.
01:51He has given me so many different advices.
01:54So really, I just, yeah, it's just chemistry.
01:58That's awesome, man.
01:59And for you to work with a legend like that, to even tour with another legend like Sean Paul,
02:04what have you learned from a lot of these guys?
02:05You know, Sean Paul being a dance hall legend in his own right.
02:09What are some things that you picked up, whether on the road or in even working with Taurus?
02:15Well, for Sean Paul, he has actually put me in front of my biggest crowd,
02:20which was over 6,000 something people.
02:23You get me?
02:24And to put me on the stage for me to open for him, like he could have chose any other artist,
02:31but he chose me to come on the stage.
02:33He did a collaboration with me.
02:34So I really look up to Sean Paul as somebody who has helped me, has reached down,
02:41and just gave me a helping hand to come up.
02:44You get me?
02:45To rise.
02:45So really and truly, as he has taught me that if I am here, it doesn't mean that
02:52I'm the only one that's supposed to be up here.
02:55I should still look for other persons and try to get them on.
02:59You know, not just be selfish with the success.
03:01He doesn't have that mentality.
03:02And I feel like that's one thing that I admire about him.
03:05He has helped me to reach where I am today.
03:08He has brought me on tour, different, different places, introduced me to so many different people.
03:14And I feel like that was really dope of him as not only an artist, but just an individual overall.
03:20He really does have a good heart.
03:22And no matter what level you're on, you must just always treat persons like they are humans.
03:28You get me?
03:28And just give them a helping hand, man.
03:30Straight.
03:31Got to respect him for that, man.
03:32He's a great dude.
03:33Met him numerous times.
03:35Also too, like with Dancehall, you know, I feel like the generation now of Dancehall,
03:42like I feel like there's a lot of females making a wave.
03:44Not, no disrespect to the women that came before that were doing their thing years ago.
03:49But man, just explain what it's like in the time, you know, with, you know, female Dancehall artists
03:54like yourself or reggae artists like yourself, the females that are really doing their thing
03:58and really catching a wave out here.
03:59Well, I feel like we haven't forgotten the roots,
04:03but times and time and music is evolving.
04:10So right now, many people will call it that we're doing Trap Dancehall.
04:15Really?
04:16Yeah.
04:17The fact that we're going on not just hardcore dancehall beats now,
04:22but just trying to put a little bit of pop, a little bit of rap in it.
04:26So right now they're calling it Trap Dancehall.
04:28So really and truly, I'm just going with the flow.
04:31It's just that what people like nowadays, because remember, as artists, you can't do music for yourself.
04:36You have to do music for everybody.
04:38So if that type of person like that type of music and you know you can deliver a certain
04:42type of music to please that person, then why not do it?
04:46You get me?
04:47So right now, I feel like every female artist out here now, I feel like even now,
04:52we are looking more not only on the raunchy side of dancehall, but to teach young girls as well,
05:00to be independent, to stay strong.
05:03You get me?
05:04Like you give them things that they can relate to, things that they've been going through that
05:08sometimes people are afraid to touch a certain topic.
05:12And nowadays, it's just not like that anymore.
05:14We're just being artistic and being creative and being free.
05:18So yeah, I feel like I have to pick up every woman in dancehall right now, because especially
05:23being the fact that there are so many young girls right now doing their thing as young as they are,
05:28it's just amazing to see young black women win.
05:33I couldn't agree more.
05:36And also, like you are like an international superstar.
05:39And one of my favorite records that you have out right now is Silvertongue Devil with Masego.
05:49So tell me what it's like, because I feel like there's so much to you that meets the eye.
05:52Like it's just deeper than dancehall.
05:53Like, you know, even with the Lighters record, like your vibe changes sporadically, very versatile.
05:59Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:01With Masego, I think he linked, that was like a real business club, you know,
06:07because he really linked my manager to get me on the song.
06:09I didn't know who he was at the time.
06:12And then when he came down to Jamaica to shoot the video, I saw how dope he was.
06:16He was so talented.
06:17He's a very, very talented individual.
06:19I've never seen any artists like Masego either.
06:23He has a different form of craft and a different way of getting his music across to his fans,
06:29for sure.
06:30So I have to big him up.
06:30He actually told me some more about himself that, you know, he is more interested in things
06:36behind the scenes.
06:37Like he's more producing, playing the instruments.
06:40He said he was going to teach me how to play the piano.
06:42I'm still waiting, Masego.
06:44But he's a dope individual for sure.
06:46When I heard the song, I said that this is different from what I'm used to.
06:50I've never done a song like that, but I'm still going to do my best.
06:53I still, I love when different vibes are introduced to me as an artist, because it challenges me as well.
06:58It makes me know how far I can go and my potential.
07:02You get me?
07:03So that was something different.
07:05The fact that he played the trumpets in it and everything.
07:07It was, it was really cool.
07:09Yeah.
07:09He's a great person too.
07:12What is a silver tongue bullet?
07:17What is a silver tongue bullet, I should say?
07:20I mean, obviously, it sounds like he's, you know, a man going downstairs.
07:24Ah, no, I think.
07:26Well, that, that's, I wouldn't mind that either, but really and truly, I think the song was more
07:34about just a man to know that he will say anything just to get intercourse from a female.
07:41Like he will lie.
07:43He will tell you things that you want to hear.
07:46He's a silver tongue devil.
07:47Like he will say anything just to get between them thighs.
07:50He said.
07:52I literally thought it was just going down on the chick.
07:56Because the way my girl be dancing to the record.
07:58I was like.
08:00Your girl knows the records.
08:02What do you mean?
08:04Puts me on to the vibe.
08:05So, you know, I got to salute her for sure.
08:08So tell me too, like, I mean, I know, you know, before you've had the record with Tiger.
08:13Yeah.
08:13I did the Bless record before.
08:16Is there anybody, you know, that's popping right now, whether, you know, the, you know,
08:19all the female rappers are popping right there.
08:21Is there somebody that you're looking forward to probably linking up and doing a record with?
08:24Because, you know, Dancehall's crossing over like, like crazy now, you know, within the hip hop.
08:30All of them.
08:32I'm talking about Megan.
08:33I have a song that I would think that Megan would be really good on.
08:37Cardi B for sure.
08:39Nicki Minaj.
08:40I grew up listening to Nicki Minaj's music.
08:43So I really rate her as an artist, being the fact that she's so hardworking and the fact that
08:48I have different respect for her as a female, as a writer.
08:52So I really admire her work.
08:55And Rihanna.
08:56Rihanna needs to come give me my song.
08:58Yo, she needs to get back in the studio, man.
09:01We haven't gotten on for six years.
09:04For how many years?
09:05It's like six years, like six and five years.
09:07Oh man, I think it's about three, four.
09:10Hell no, that record came out a long time ago.
09:13But I know that people are still waiting patiently for her still, so.
09:18That's cool.
09:18Now, I've never been in Jamaica, but I've always wanted to go.
09:21I've got so many, like, friends within radio that, you know, have moved down there to do
09:26radio and things like that.
09:28How has it been these days?
09:29How has it been, like, with COVID and things like that?
09:32Like, what's the status on the island?
09:35I feel like more people are gravitating to music now because they really can't go out.
09:42So the fact that they can just sit at home and have the world right at their fingertips.
09:48So music is still doing good for myself.
09:51I can speak for other artists as well because there are so many artists in Jamaica that
09:55are blowing up since quarantine because people have more time to actually check out other people's
10:00music.
10:01You get me?
10:02To know new artists, to get familiar with new releases.
10:06So, and they have more time to listen to radio too because they are at home.
10:10You get me?
10:11So, where music is concerned, I would say the only thing that has been damned by this
10:17is the fact that we can't go out and do shows.
10:19But otherwise, where streaming is concerned, I think that it has really increased.
10:24Yeah.
10:25Just, you know, chill at home, listen to some good vibes and a bottle of Appleton.
10:30Was it Appleton?
10:31Yeah.
10:31Appleton.
10:32Appleton.
10:33Appleton.
10:33I haven't had it.
10:34Appleton.
10:34What's crazy, because I remember my old, one of my old homies,
10:38he brought me a bottle of Ray & Neff.
10:40Ray & Neff you?
10:41Yeah.
10:42Rome, white Rome.
10:44Yeah.
10:44It's, yeah.
10:45And it was like rubbing alcohol.
10:46I literally could have rubbed it on my chest if I was like-
10:48Yeah, you could.
10:50It was heavy.
10:52Nice, strong.
10:53That's an original Jamaican Rome for sure.
10:55Oh yeah.
10:56It was, it was, it tastes like it too.
11:01Yeah.
11:01I heard that that one will knock you over still.
11:03Oh yeah.
11:03I ain't messing with that no more.
11:07But yo, Shensi, I really appreciate you taking the time.
11:09Yo, you got so much music out.
11:11Lighter is the record right now with Taurus Riley.
11:13I know you also got another record, Rebel, which I saw the video for,
11:17where you actually like, you know, you really-
11:20Putting out that man.
11:20Yeah, you let, yo, you really, you know what I'm saying?
11:23This is how we're doing that video.
11:25That's literally my personality.
11:27No joke.
11:28I am really a rebel.
11:29For sure.
11:30That's fine.
11:30And I know many other females are out there like me, Alpha.
11:34So we got to represent.
11:36For sure.
11:36Keep doing it.
11:37Putting out the good vibes and I appreciate you taking the time, love.
11:40Thank you for having me.
11:42Hopefully we get you down here to Tampa soon.
11:44Yeah, yeah, yeah.
11:45For sure.
11:46All right.
11:47Okay.
11:48Let's do it.
11:48Let's do it.
11:49Let's do it.
