During a town hall on Wednesday, Rep. Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) called on Republicans who disagree with Trump privately to join Democrats in opposition.
Transcript
00:00And the greatest opportunity that we have to push back is we have, they have a very narrow majority in the house.
00:12And so every Republican that we put pressure on to make sure they know the implications in their district.
00:18And by the way, we have one of the most important districts in Colorado, our neighbor in CD8.
00:24I think that it doesn't scare from all of you.
00:32He represents the district that has the highest percentage of folks who rely on Medicaid.
00:38And he is on board to strip away the health care that so many people are relying on.
00:43So we have the opportunity to put pressure on the Republicans to make sure that they know that we are not going to forget when it comes to elections next November.
00:53So it is pushing back to trying to get Republicans to join us, to care more about the future of our country than their job.
01:04And thank you.
01:06And we also have the Senate, which we have the filibuster still in place.
01:18And Senator Bennett is going to talk about what we're going to fight back.
01:21And I can tell you, on the House floor, the Republicans who I talk to, I individually will tell you how worried they are that they don't support what's happening.
01:33And we need them to be brave. We need them to stand up.
01:36And not all Republicans. We have a big, we have a big tent right now. We welcome everybody, whether you're a Republican, affiliated, or a American. If you want to join us, they're invited to talk to me and you're welcome.
02:04And we're welcome.
02:06And I actually, Representative Jim Wilson and I worked alongside. You all know Jim Wilson, right?
02:12Yes.
02:13So this is somebody who's been a friend of mine for a very long time. I wish he was here tonight.
02:18But an example of what politics used to be like, what it was like when I was in Colorado legislature, we actually worked together. We saw problems. We worked in a bipartisan way.
02:30I know that most of them have been it, and I look forward to a day when we get back to that. But before we get into questions, you all know, actually before we go, can the elected officials stand up tonight?
02:44So we can acknowledge you. Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
02:57And some of the people who are critical to the services that we all rely on, whose jobs are at stake every single day.
03:07Do we have any federal employees in the house today?
03:10Let's take another round of applause.
03:12I know that it's difficult, but I hope you stick it out, because we need you. And we're going to support you. And with that, what we're going to do, after you hear from Senator Bennett, we're going to read out to questions that you will grow. We're going to call out your name and let you stand up and wait, because it's easier to get to the questions that way with so many people.
03:39I want to thank you for your time, for being here, for caring about our country. And it's such an honor to be here with Senator Bennett.
03:46You know, I started out as an organizer for his first campaign 15 years ago, and I turned right off.
03:54And it has been a long journey from working for Senator Bennett from the very beginning to be able to be a colleague in Congress, and it's such an honor to be here with Michael today.
