ecommended tempo for this piece is 80-90 mimim beats her minute, (Equivalent to 160 - 180 crotchet bpm!!) However, the exam book states that students may prefer a slightly slower tempo of 76 minim bpm.
This piece has a mixture of legato (smooth) notes and staccato (detached) - also there are numerous accents in the form of “sf” (sudden accent) and also the more common > (standard accent sign).
This is an aggressive sounding piece and needs a very secure tempo in order to play well. The contrast in dynamics is extreme, so look out for all the details. The “snapping” section at bar 11 can be played very loudly, especially in the left hand part which has the marking; sf (sudden accent)
The “tiptoeing” section which follows in bar 12 would be best be played softer in order to represent the T-Rex silently hunting for it’s prey!
