00:00Satyajit Barman, a railway passenger travelling on the Getanjali Express was allegedly assaulted
00:12and held captive by IRCTC canteen staff on 6 April 2025.
00:30The incident occurred near Badnera in Maharashtra's Amravati district during the train's journey from Havra to Kalyan.
00:36Barman, who was returning to Mumbai from Kolkata, said he heard three fellow passengers arguing with pantry staff.
00:42They were reportedly complaining about being served less food than the standard IRCTC quantity and being charged extra for it.
00:48FYI, e-catering meals have fixed portions.
00:50For instance, 150 gram rice, 100 grams bread and 150 grams dal in a veg meal.
00:55However, when Barman intervened and objected, the staff told him to weigh the food on the pantry car scale.
01:01He then went to the pantry car with the three passengers to get the food packets weighed.
01:11There, the staff allegedly accused him of provoking others, snatched his phone, physically assaulted him and forced him to remain seated.
01:20He also claimed that other passengers were intimidated and sent back to their seats,
01:25with some of them being physically manhandled.
01:27One of the passengers reportedly contacted the railway police force helpline.
01:31Officials reached the pantry car, rescued Barman and escorted him to his seat.
01:35He registered a police complaint on 7 April 2025 at the Kalyan railway station.
01:39Following his complaint, a case was registered against seven people
01:42and the matter was transferred to Maharashtra's Badnera railway police station
01:46under whose jurisdiction the incident took place.
