There was no evidence of "two-tier policing" in the police's handling of riots that erupted after last year's Southport murders, a new report by MPs has found. The report by the Home Affairs Committee, published on Monday, examined the police response to disorder that broke out following the stabbings in July last year. Commenting on the findings, former Metropolitan Police chief Dal Babu said there are "some lessons for the police to learn particularly around how they deal with social media". Report by Kennedyl. 00:00I think the police have indicated they did an extraordinary job under very, very difficult
00:04circumstances. You had disorder that was fermented by false information on social media sites,
00:12not just from this country, but from across the world. People were trying to create tensions,
00:19create disorder. And I think there's some lessons for the police to learn in how they deal with
00:24vacuums, when a vacuum is created, when there isn't information in the public domain.
00:29So there are some lessons for the police to learn, particularly around how they deal with
00:33social media. But when it comes to mobilisation resources, very quickly, I think they dealt
00:39with the incidents of violence across the country very well.
