US Commerce Secretary says exempted electronic products to come under separate tariffs  US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Sunday, April 13, in an interview with ABC's "This Week" that smartphones, computers and some other electronics will come under separate tariffs, along with semiconductors that may be imposed in a month or so.  US President Donald Trump's administration late on Friday, April 11, granted exclusions from steep tariffs on such products, imported largely from China, providing a big break to tech firms like Apple that rely on imported products.  The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency notice of tariff codes on Friday excluded from the import taxes featured 20 product categories, including the broad 8471 code for all computers, laptops, disc drives and automatic data processing. It also included semiconductor devices, equipment, memory chips and flat panel displays. 00:07So you're going to see this week, there'll be a register in the federal registry, there'll

00:11be a notice put out.

00:14That is different types of work.

00:16So we're going to do that.

00:17We did that in autos.

00:18The president's going to do it for pharmaceuticals, and he is going to do it for semiconductors.

00:23So all those products are going to come under semiconductors, and they're going to have

00:26a special, focused type of tariff to make sure that those products get reassured.

00:32We need to have semiconductors, we need to have chips, and we need to have flat panels.

00:37We need to have these things made in America.

00:38We can't be reliant on Southeast Asia for all of the things that operate for us.

00:44So what he's doing is he's saying they're exempt from the reciprocal tariffs, but they're included

00:50in the semiconductor tariffs, which are coming in probably a month or two.

00:56You shouldn't think this is really outside of it, really think of it as being included

01:03in the semiconductor space, much like pharmaceuticals.

01:06So this is not like a permanent sort of exemption.

01:09He's just clarifying that these are not available to be negotiated away by countries.
