The 2024 Acura ZDX Type S is the luxury electric vehicle version of the Honda Prologue EV I tested out in the last video. The top trim of the Acura ZDX will cost you $74,500. What you get for that is a 499-HP Dual Motor with All-Wheel Drive (AWD) with a 102 kWh battery and a range of 278 miles and premium features like Hands Free Cruise. Not only is it more stylish and premium with its design, but its performance and handling are much improved. It's an exhilarating ride for sure, but is it worth it?

00:00If you don't know, Acura is the luxury brand of Honda.
00:03In my last video, I test drove the Honda Prologue for a week
00:07to measure its comfort and its performance.
00:09Look at that!
00:10Buckle up, safety.
00:11This is the Acura ZDX Type S.
00:13It's built on the same platform, but is it $20,000 more impressive?
00:23Great, you can fold down the rear seats, but for a luxury car, I was expecting to be going to try.
00:28Nope.
00:30Let's see the inside jump right in.
00:32Oh, the white and black accent.
00:35I definitely sense some Prologue aesthetics here.
00:39God, I don't know why they didn't update this.
00:41This is exactly the same size display, antiquated, boring looking.
00:46Although, you know, it's black and white, whatever.
00:48This looks slightly better.
00:49It looks like it's a better panel.
00:51Navigation set.
00:52We set off for New York City.
00:53Our double apex blue Pearl Type S is the top trim of the Acura ZDX
00:57and will cost you $74,500.
01:00What you get for that is a 499 horsepower dual motor with all-wheel drive
01:05with 102 kilowatt hour battery and a range of 278 miles.
01:09This is exactly the same platform as the Prologue.
01:14The sunroof looks exactly the same.
01:17The controls, the dashboard looks exactly the same.
01:20I can't even say if this is a lot more comfortable.
01:23Even this here is identical.
01:26So, for an extra $20,000, that is tough.
01:32Compared to other luxury vehicles, I tested like Jensis.
01:35Jensis, for some odd reason, for the money, they really go overboard with the features.
01:40The look, the interior space, the amount of features, it's very different.
01:45It's a big contrast to this.
01:47Look at that.
01:48It's the same thing as the Prologue.
01:51At least change it up.
01:52Make the lights a little bit brighter.
01:53Or, I don't know.
01:55It just feels, it doesn't feel luxury to me.
01:57And granted, yes, they're not going to put a lot of emphasis on the visor here.
02:01But, man, it could have been a little better.
02:04The other thing I noticed about this over the Prologue is that you have the auto-dimming rearview mirror.
02:10So, for at night, with the headlights, it dims it so it's not straining your eyes.
02:15And I believe the Prologue also has it on the side mirrors.
02:18But you get here and also the mirror up here.
02:21As far as comfortable, I want to say it's equally as good.
02:25As far as the seats go, I want to say they're the same level of comfort.
02:28You know, the leather-type material is plush.
02:31It's breathable.
02:32They do have the heated, ventilated seats, which is great.
02:36Steering wheel?
02:37Surprisingly, I want to say this might be actually smaller than the Prologue.
02:42One thing I do notice is the sound.
02:44Definitely the soundproofing seems to be a little bit better here.
02:47But, again, the true test will be on the highway when we're driving pretty fast.
02:50Is it exhilarating?
02:52I'll find out when I get to the highway.
02:58Damn, but you still have six to three miles.
03:01So we're driving on the highway.
03:03Pretty much cruise speed.
03:05And I could hear just a little bit of noise.
03:08Just a little bit of that wind, but a little bit quieter than the Prologue.
03:11If there's one feature I really want in any vehicle, even an EV, it's Super Cruise Control or Smart Cruise Control.
03:19Because I think it's a really helpful feature for this long-distance driving.
03:23And I gladly pay the extra money for it.
03:25Cruise Control on.
03:26Let's set our speed.
03:28That's 70 right now.
03:30And then press this button to activate.
03:33It goes green.
03:34Technically, it is steering the car for me, but it's an assist feature.
03:40Oh, there it is.
03:41Auto lane change.
03:42Cool.
03:43Nice feature.
03:45Comfort and convenience right there.
03:48Let's do that again.
03:50All right.
03:51It's going to look if it's clear.
03:53And just like that, it will change the lane for me.
03:57I know in this Super Cruise Control system, it will disengage if you're not paying attention to the road in front of you.
04:04If you have, there are actually infrared camera sensors right here into the steering wheel.
04:08So if it senses that you're looking away for an extended period of time, it will stop it.
04:13You'll feel the buzz and totally stop it for you.
04:16Let's find out for that.
04:18Oh, it doesn't give a .
04:21Not yet.
04:23Oh, there it is.
04:25Hands-free cruise control disengaging.
04:27And that is a safety precaution because, again, while these are great convenience features for any luxury car,
04:34you still have to be mindful about your driving.
04:37It's more there to be an assistive feature versus a fully autonomous one.
04:42When I first tried it out, I was terrified.
04:44You know, I had my hands on the wheels still.
04:46There's something about giving an EV, a computer, complete control of the vehicle you're in.
04:52It is terrifying that way.
04:54Can you say that you'll accelerate?
04:56I am exhilarated.
04:57I'm happy because that's one less thing for me to worry about.
05:00You know, we're not quite there at fully automated, but it's nice to have.
05:05There we go.
05:06There we go.
05:07There we go.
05:08It's doing it.
05:11Wow.
05:12Okay.
05:13If you're doing a lot of long distance driving, you just drive for an hour.
05:16Those are small touches that make a big difference because now you can rely on the car more confidently to do the driving for you.
05:24A quick pit stop gave us the opportunity to try the parking assist feature.
05:28I will let you know when to back in.
05:30Okay.
05:31So maybe it's our right.
05:32Oh, no.
05:33We don't want that.
05:34We want left.
05:35Let's see if it can do this by itself.
05:36Oh, it's backing up.
05:37I have no idea which one's going to do it.
05:38We're stopping.
05:39Fail.
05:40Clearly wants to go in the middle.
05:41Oh my gosh.
05:42It's too slow.
05:43Yeah.
05:44No, that was not smooth.
05:45That was not comfortable.
05:46It was exhilarating though.
05:47I got to say.
05:48Okay.
05:49We can't do this.
05:50We're not, we're not do this here.
05:51We're not, we're not.
05:52Yeah.
05:53Get the **** in the air.
05:54With that a bust, there was only one more thing to do as we approach New York City.
06:11I don't have high expectations here, but let's find out.
06:15A lot more organized, you know, a little bit more clean looking.
06:22You don't have all everything exposed, but yeah, no extra storage here.
06:26No problem.
06:27There are a lot of things I love about the Acura ZDX Type S.
06:32You have the stylish, aggressive design.
06:34You have the super cruise control, which I absolutely love.
06:37And it handles a lot better in the highways.
06:40But is that all worth an extra $20,000 over the prologue?
06:44I don't think so.
06:45Yes, it's comfortable.
06:46And yes, it's also exhilarating, but I was expecting more for an extra $20,000.
06:52What do you guys think?
06:53Which one did you like better?
06:54The Prologue or the Acura ZDX Type S?
