00:00Oh boy it's good to see some of you. You know throughout these last 15 months I
00:15relied on one thing I relied on God and I would say it I would bless the Lord at
00:21all times his words of praise will continuously be in my mouth and I'm
00:28standing in front of you because of my faith and all those New Yorkers who are
00:32going through difficult times lean into your faith because that is your answer
00:38good morning we had another outstanding week of delivering a safer more
00:45affordable city as we continue to make New York City this the best place to
00:51raise children and families public safety crime stats are clear the first
00:58quarter of the year which is a continuation which a lot of people seem
01:01to be missing this is a continuation we had five straight quarters with
01:09decreasing crime it didn't start in January folks five straight quarters and
01:14decreasing crime when you don't acknowledge that you really miss the men
01:18and women who have been doing the job continuously and we just really want to
01:23thank them public safety and justice I say over and over again they are the
01:29prerequisite to our prosperity and last month we achieved another historic
01:34milestone in delivering a safer city for New Yorkers and did the thing
01:39administration is best known for keeping our city safe and breaking records
01:44record after record after record of you here over and over in this
01:48administration the first time ever is something that is continuously stated
01:52and for the first three months of the year we saw the lowest number of
01:57shootings and recorded history in a quarter the lowest number of shootings
02:03and recorded history that's a testament to the men and women 21,000 guns removed
02:10off our streets including 57 untraceable ghost guns those these are just amazing
02:17numbers when you look at it and it ties into the public safety plan of having a
02:22gun unit in the beginning of the administration all of those things that
02:26you heard people criticize this administration for you're seeing the
02:30fruits of the labor going after those with severe mental health illness giving
02:35them the care they deserve removing the encampments off our streets having a gun
02:40unit such as CRT to go out removing 80,000 illegal vehicles off our streets
02:45just all of these things are not finally materializing and you're seeing
02:50the results of just a smart strategic initiatives that ignored all the noise
02:56now look at the numbers this quarter we reduce murders by 34% in shootings 34%
03:03in murders 23% in shootings and transit crime went down by 18% as well and we see
03:11promising stats when you look at retail theft there was a real issue around
03:16retail retail theft we came together and put together a retail theft task force
03:21and the numbers are showing 8% decrease year-to-date people who believe retail
03:26theft is a victimless crime they are wrong when stores close we lose
03:32employees of those who need to get their prescription or any other items from the
03:38drugstore they have to travel further to locations to do so so it's a holistic
03:43approach how we're going to address this and in March alone we saw decreases in
03:49six of the seven major crime categories and while these numbers are incredible
03:56impressive you know six straight months of declining crime as part of a five
04:02straight quarters of declining crime that is what we promised and that's what
04:07we delivered on affordability really proud of this one to add off to the
04:12Deputy Commissioner of Rokin Protection the Commissioner may Olga what she has
04:17accomplished last week we were proud to announce that we increased the minimum
04:22pay rate for app based delivery workers once again this time up to $21.44 per
04:29hour we previously set the first of its kind in the nation minimum pay rate for
04:34app based delivery workers in June of 23 and we're seeing it continue to take
04:40up now what happened before we got into office before we got into office the pay
04:45rate was $5.39 per hour from $5.39 per hour so 21 and $21.44 that's a real
04:57accomplishment that's putting in the last two years 700 million dollars in
05:02wages of to these delivery workers strong bond rating something that I like
05:09to talk about over and over again because all those outside the city
05:13outside of the administration they talk about how you know bad we are managing
05:19the city but they're not the experts they don't have a finance degree they
05:22know nothing about economy they know nothing about the stability of cities
05:26they're experts out there they're called bond raters you know S&P and all of
05:31these international bond raters they determine how well you're managing your
05:37city so that those who want to invest in your city can get real information not
05:42political information what do they do for the 16th time during this
05:47administration they kept us at a double-a category rating for general
05:53obligation bonds it says that throughout the crisis of Kovac throughout the
05:58crisis of the migrants and migrant asylum seekers throughout the economic
06:02downturn we have stabilized this city and managed this city balancing each
06:08time we needed a budget we accomplished that task more jobs in the city history
06:13second largest tourism in the city history small businesses are operating
06:18more in the city history we are putting 30 billion dollars back in the pockets
06:23of everyday New Yorkers this is how you manage during the crisis and we're going
06:27to continue to do so so all of those Eric like people who state that what
06:32they would like to do look at what we have done and we're going to get that
06:37out and let people know that every day the success of this administration so
06:41Kayla turn it over to you yes Marcia
07:11well listen you fight for New York I fight for New York as I made that clear
07:23and one let's be let's let's be clear on our math they're trying to claw back 200
07:29million and we are fighting for that 200 million the corporation council's
07:35already taking actions for that 200 million we were very clear we believe
07:39that 200 million belongs to us the previous administration gave us a price
07:43tag of handling a national crisis we are going to fight and state that this 200
07:49million belongs to us but then let's look at seven billion seven billion we
07:55lost in the previous administration compared to 200 million we're going to
08:00fight for every penny no matter what it is this should not be carried on the
08:04backs of taxpayers now the consistent part of this we are suing for that 200
08:10million we're raising our voice for that 200 million we raise our voice for the
08:15seven billion where was everyone else why didn't everyone else join us in a
08:20seven billion you can't critique an administration based on their party you
08:26must critique it based on what the city needs I did not hear one of my
08:32colleagues raise their voice and say it was wrong for the city of New York to
08:38have to spend seven billion dollars and so that consistence inconsistency is
08:43what you should all be asking about if you if you're angry over 200 million why
08:48won't you infuriated over seven billion I don't know why we're not asking these
08:52folks there and so not only that my ask of the Biden administration was secure
08:57the borders if you secure the borders we can stop the flow from our city this
09:02administration is securing the borders my ask of the Biden administration is
09:05let's go after those dangerous gang members that are creating violent crimes
09:08among migrants and asylum seekers in everyday New York is document and
09:13undocumented they didn't want to do that this administration is doing that hats
09:16off to the Homeland Security Secretary and to Tom over at ice and others that
09:23want to collaborate with us on dealing with criminal behavior we're clear that
09:29we don't do we don't deal with of those who are dealing with civil enforcement
09:35the city doesn't allow us to do that but if we got partners on the federal level
09:39and all of these agencies that are willing to collaborate with us on
09:43criminal behaviors we say hooray to that and that's what the Homeless Security
09:48Secretary and what ice borders are is doing so so yes we could we are Corp
09:56counsel is taking legal action we're going to fight for every penny and is up
10:00to the course and make that determination yes
10:26well no this this outfit is not campaigning this outfit is my life and
10:38God we trust I went through hell for 15 months and all I had was God you know
10:43God in my family and those who understood that I did nothing wrong
10:48regardless of the the incoming that I received and so I'm not I'm not I'm going
10:55to be very clear so people who misunderstand my faith is real go back
11:00in the days when an indictment came out and I stood in front of you guys in a
11:03rotunda and I stated my faith is really God I had in matter of fact the quote I
11:08stated was that I had more faith in God at the time I was in it than I ever did
11:13and so as much as I can say in not until you were in that type of circumstance do
11:19you understand the impact and importance of your faith and so when you say who
11:23I'm running I'm a Democrat running on an independent line let them let them
11:30fight it out let me see who I'm running against in November I think all of them
11:35are running from their records I'm running on my record the housing crisis
11:42go back to the the advantage program that the former governor canceled the
11:49inequities in in the of the COVID let's go back to some of the the rules and
11:58blockage that the the others have done you know the stuff in Albany the raise
12:05the age the bail reform I mean all these guys got a run they run it from their
12:09record they trying to change Brad and and defund the police you know I don't
12:15have to run from my record I could run on a record that's a great feeling and
12:20so whomever comes out of that cloud of individuals I'll see them in November
12:28Juliette I'm supposed to do an interview with Juliette is that happening okay
12:34all right all right or news all the time
12:42on Marsha's first question when you say where was everyone else who are you
12:47talking about that's question number one on the seven billion and the second
12:51question is what about the FEMA money that the Trump administration wants to
12:55take back mr. Isco says that devastate his agency yeah and I think that comes
13:02to about 80 million you know and I know people don't want me to continue to say
13:09it but I have to say it until it penetrates we want that 80 million we
13:14believe we deserve it we believe the previous administration did us wrong as
13:19well as the brick money which is about 300 million we believe we deserve that
13:25and so when you do the math that's a long way from seven billion and the same
13:31level of concern I had back then I have now New Yorkers deserve every penny for
13:38we were we were forced to handle a federal problem and so when you say well
13:43who were they it would be easy for me if I could say was there was only two or
13:47three people who who are now running for mayor it was only two or three people
13:53that I could say was just these two none of them were there ask ask all of them
13:58where were your tweets where were your visits to Washington DC where were your
14:03advocacy on based on New Yorkers of where were your what was your action
14:08none of them can say we stood up to fight for New Yorkers for your action
14:17what were their lawsuits I mean none of them if you were to do an analysis and
14:22ask all those who are running for mayor right now say New York was getting
14:27thousands of migrants and assignment seekers in the city spending billions of
14:31dollars what was your position back then and they say well here was my
14:36position okay what did you voice it what did you voice it so I can't say well
14:41only one candidate or two candidates all of them they were all MIA and you you
14:48guys got to be asking them that question if you're angry with the current
14:51president administration taking 200 million dollars then you should be
14:56furious about losing seven billion dollars but they weren't because they
15:04they put they put politics in front of the people and I refuse to do that I
15:10fight on behalf of the people and so Brad keeps threatening lawsuits every
15:16time something happens under this administration why wasn't he pushing for
15:21lawsuits under the previous administration that's just you know come
15:25on we gotta we have to have just basic basic questions it's not only okay Eric
15:31why are you doing such-and-such what about all these guys make these guys
15:35stand up and answer questions you know they can't what's happening how you yes
15:46have you spoken to Tom Holman or anybody over at ice and the second boy
15:52since the charges were dismissed have you spoken to Tom Holman or any other
15:57high-ranking officer over at ice and the other question I had was on the
16:01executive order any updates on that when that's coming or what strategies or what
16:06else is gonna be in that order oh first of all I haven't spoken to
16:09anyone I don't even know I don't even know the connection between the charges
16:12and nice but no I have not speaking to them and once something once the
16:18administration releases something with the any type of eos that we put out we
16:24make it public we don't keep our eos secret once it's done we'll release it
16:29I'm sorry what is still coming once once once we release it we release it what's
16:37happening are you good good you just said you don't know the connection
16:41between the ice and the charges Judge Ho felt differently he said everything
16:46here smacks of a bargain immigration enforcement cooperation for dropping the
16:51charges what do you think about that statement also separately I think we're
16:57all seeing a difference with the migrant funding is that Trump is taking back
17:03funding that we already have the Biden administration allocated that funding
17:09the seven billion that you keep talking about yes they didn't allocate that but
17:13you know it's different when it's being taken back do you see that difference
17:17no okay whatever that's your that's that's your logic that's not my logic
17:26losing okay all right well I'm not that clear losing not having seven billion
17:33dollars that should be going to the services of this city and then to
17:36rationalize it that well at least they never gave it to you although they cost
17:40you seven billion dollars that's just a I don't that's a tricky math that we
17:45learned back on the street so so no and now your connection about to about the
17:50two Jojo listen many of you analyze everything that was in a 74 page item I
17:57just don't hear you lifting up two things Eric is innocent until proven
18:00guilty and that this is dismissed with prejudice lift that up lift that up and
18:07it's I think it's a level of hypocrisy when you have those who want to accuse
18:13me of something and yet they spend their entire lives talking about justice I
18:18talked about justice reform and criminal justice reform as a cop as a state
18:23senator as the board president I visited state prisons and talked to inmates that
18:28were inside I sit side-by-side with Ken Thompson the former district attorney
18:32as we went out to get those who were illegally convicted my life has been
18:36criminal justice reform reform and I'm always going to fight for criminal
18:41justice reform and so there is no connection next what's happening how you
18:50yes you running as an independent I would like to ask you how much of it is
18:56a strategy for campaign because you gain more time now and how much of it is
19:00a will to also appeal to Republican voters in New York City and my second
19:06question is about a proposed lithium-ion battery storage facility in middle
19:11village the community big of it is Polish community is concerned that this
19:16facility who they say some of them say it's a part of a city of yes like a
19:23result of city of yes this facility if created will be very close to school and
19:30it's a residential district so I just want to ask you about your opinion on
19:34that and if you could if you would oppose that yeah no and the first of all
19:40this was they were already allowed to do this prior to city of yes so people want
19:45to conflate the two that's not true prior to city of yes what they were able
19:48to do so and FDNY and DOB and all of the teams they make sure that what the
19:55rules are and where you could build these facilities I know there's a lot of
19:58fear around lithium-ion batteries because of the actions around that we've
20:05witnessed but this is zone zone to be allowed to do so we're going to make
20:12sure that the agencies do what they're supposed to be supposed to do and they're
20:16going to make sure it's regulated correctly Dawn better be safe we should
20:25not be approving any type of manufacturing or any type of storage
20:30that's not safe that's the job of our agency to make sure that it is safe yes
20:37no listen there's and I think that we need partisan politics don't understand
20:44when someone go to find an affordable home the agent doesn't ask are you an
20:50independent are you conservative are you a Democrat or Republican of we need to
20:55deal with the affordability of New Yorkers and I just believe that
20:59working-class people should afford to live in a city that they provide for
21:04every day and so I'm going to appeal with to my working-class base with
21:08working-class values I'm consistent and you know what's interesting those who
21:13have covered me throughout my life would tell you this is the same guy this
21:17guy has not changed he's the same guy the same things I was talking about as a
21:22rookie police officer I'm talking about as a mayor I'm the same person
21:27working-class people should allow to be safe in this city and I'm going to always
21:32stand on that and I think that's going to cross all party lines because people
21:36want to be safe and raise their children and families quite well how are
21:41you
21:46you are in a very unique situation a position because in a way the Trump
21:51administration is hearing you so they're hoping that maybe you might have had
21:56some dialogue with mr. Poland as to what might happen with the dreamers yes
22:04and because there's some so much fear with people maybe perhaps being wrongly
22:09deported have you had a chance to discuss that the opportunity of maybe
22:14what the Trump administration might be thinking or have you had any talks with
22:19him at all well I think part of the hysteria and the fear that people are
22:23feeling is because of those who just feed on fear you know I said from the
22:28beginning after the election our conversations with the administration
22:35particularly through HSI and ice of you know expected how are things going to be
22:41implemented in the city you know people running around saying that ice was in
22:45our schools that was just a lie people running around saying ice was in our
22:49churches lie you know that there were a roundups and sweeps happening our city
22:55it's just a lie I was very clear I did not waiver I said go to school have your
23:00children go to school go to your houses of worship go to the hospital if you
23:05need care call the police if you're a victim of a crime we don't participate
23:09in civil enforcement we are very clear and so what we need to do is stop feeding
23:15into the uncertainty in the crisis if something shifts we'll come back to the
23:20New York people in public and say here are new policies that are coming down
23:24that's not what what happened and we need to allow people to go on with their
23:29lives that's what's important and not feed into this hysteria and that's why
23:34those national immigrant leaders that came to the city stated Eric no one is
23:38doing what you are doing in the country for migrants and asylum seekers and you
23:44should be the model that the country is using this local politics is creating a
23:49hysteria that people are saying and I have the first I have the first
23:54Commissioner that's a dreamer and Commissioner Castro traveled with me to
23:59the Darien Gap traveled with me to El Paso has been a clear advocate to put
24:05out what what migrants and asylum seekers documented undocumented people
24:10should know about their rights we've been we've been consistent we're not
24:13inconsistent and how we operate and we were doing that pre-election
24:28listen yes I am I believe our dream is like Commissioner Castro contributes to
24:33our city immigrants contribute to our country and we should do it right I
24:38proposed under the previous administration when someone comes into
24:43the country secure your border look at where Americans need populations we're
24:49decreasing population across the entire country is certain municipalities allow
24:55people to go to those locations that we need people spend three years there
24:59that's a symbiotic relationship and then go wherever you want in the country we
25:04have to have smarter immigration policies we stated this over and over
25:08again you cannot have an unsecured border that is what the problem was and
25:13we need to fix that problem yes how are you
25:19have been dropped are you planning to appeal the campaign finance board's
25:24decision not to grant you matching funds that's my first question and then my
25:29second question is on the Trump administration threatening to withhold
25:35funding from school districts that have DEI policies you're the black mayor of
25:41the biggest city in the country no are you going to either talk directly to the
25:47president about about this or are you going to join other mayors of color
25:53across the country to speak out about this I'm a member of AMA African
25:57American Mayors Association and I was on the stage with Nan the other day and
26:03talking about this specific question about our DEI DEI is more than three
26:08letters you know anyone can have a entity or program what are you doing
26:17with the program we have the strongest discrimination laws in the country right
26:23here in New York and our numbers are clear I'm a symbol of DEI when you look
26:28at the diversity of my administration the first Korean Commission of SBS the
26:33first Indian to be a deputy mayor first Trinidadian to be a deputy mayor of
26:38first Filipino to be a deputy mayor first African American woman to be first
26:43deputy mayor second African American to be chief of staff first Hispanic male to
26:47be the correction commissioner first woman to be the Commissioner of the of
26:51the Police Department first African American woman to be a police
26:54commissioner first Hispanic a male to be a police commissioner I could go down
26:59a list you know it shouldn't be DEI it should be ELA I'm a representative of
27:06what DEI means but you can't just have programs we have these programs for
27:11awful we're your numbers 19 billion dollars in small business on women and
27:15minority-owned businesses in this administration you're seeing real
27:18results so this is an opportunity for all of us that believe in diversity to
27:24go to all of these entities and say don't just put three letters up and say
27:28what you're doing let's see your results how well are you doing and then you can
27:33get quality like I did because we broke records because of the diversity and
27:38quality but you can also improve you have the diversity within your
27:42administration so I join my mayor's and saying we need to make sure we have
27:47diversity in all of our administration we're the same page with that
27:53funding what do you do why we have risk you know if the federal if the federal
27:58government lays down rules as any administration could do let's be clear
28:01that we think they're unfair we're going to do what we have been doing we have a
28:06corporation council just for that we're gonna do if something we believe is
28:09unfair this is us this is a country where there are systems of fighting
28:15against something you believe is unfair we're gonna utilize those systems to do
28:19so that's the system that we're under that's a system that I respect that's
28:23why this is the greatest country on the globe
28:27magic but yeah we believe we believe we should not have lost our matching funds
28:32and we're gonna do everything possible to fight for them I'm maxed out I was
28:36finished I'm raising money I was done and we're gonna do everything that's
28:40possible to fight for our matching funds what's happening how you
28:49NYPD and ice as it relates to the arrest of student activists yes I want
28:58to make sure that I understand the law if there's a situation where someone is
29:01issued a summons at a protest and that summons is sealed or dismissed can the
29:08NYPD in any circumstances share that information with any of their federal
29:13partners including HSI we're clear we cannot collaborate for immigrate to
29:21deportation using your scenario if someone is a known terrorist like TDA
29:32like some of these games have been classified up for if you're known
29:37terrorists and you're doing criminal investigations criminal and not deep
29:42deep civil enforcement whatever we could do to seal that case or to bring
29:47that person to justice we allowed to do we're not allowed to collaborate for
29:52civil enforcement period is the law is very clear and it's very important to do
29:58so so we have no record that this happened there no when I inquired they
30:04said we did not turn over anything and we don't collaborate for civil
30:08enforcement they said that over and over again
30:12if you know in this situation we have the government using this terror statute
30:17to go after student protesters mm-hmm and I mean I think that some of the gang
30:23cases these are these are also in some of the gang cases you mentioned it is
30:26it's civil and it's being led by federal immigration authorities so it's still
30:31like a little murky to me if if some federal partner comes to you and says we
30:36want information on someone who is suspected of advancing terrorism on
30:42campus and we believe that you have some of their their criminal arrest
30:48information can that be shared we wait listen one thing if you haven't figured
30:53out yet you should by now I'm not a lawyer I have a court counsel you know
30:58and if someone comes and we have been extremely extremely meticulous when our
31:04federal partners come to us dealing with immigration we sit down find out
31:10what they would like and desire and then the Corp Council determines if we could
31:14do it or not we've been extremely meticulous and I allow them to do that
31:18have a lot of respect for Muriel who's over at Corp Council Mike over at NYPD
31:25they've been extremely meticulous and again I said it earlier I'm gonna say it
31:29again I look forward to collaborating with HSI with ICE with it with all of
31:36our partners of going after those who are committing crimes and they determine
31:39based on the inquiry they be in Corp Council based on the inquiry can we move
31:43we move forward on something and I respect that
31:47yes you did criticize yes but in the narrative since it's been the focus in
32:07the Biden administration and their lack of attention and failure to address what
32:11was a gaping wound in the city was still not recovered from the pandemic without
32:14a doubt so I'm not wondering now is this isn't this your independent run for
32:19mayor can't you speak to the I think about Americans feel that with a
32:26Republican mayor sending a governor using this crisis sending you migrates
32:32in summer closed to a New York winter and then the lack of response from the
32:36Biden administration that shows the two-party system is profoundly broken
32:40and can you say that your independent candidacy understands that maybe more
32:44than most you're hired yes yes and it is and that's what that's what I think
32:58people just really don't appreciate about me being their mayor now I'm not
33:06gonna say people because people do stop me all the time the chattering classes
33:12consistency we just don't expect people to be consistent and authentic the
33:19unorthodox approach I have to just dealing with these issues because I'm
33:25connected to real New Yorkers and I know their pains I know what they've gone
33:30through because I've gone through that and so when I speak to those issues when
33:35I'm willing to criticize no matter who your party is you know I took a pledge
33:40to the flag I didn't take a pledge to a party and sometimes that get in the way
33:46it gets in a ways you know so I think you're dead wrong you're you're right
33:50that you know would what I said governor Abbott it was wrong should never done
33:56any municipalities but go back then what I said also I said El Paso should not be
34:01going through this Brownsville Texas should not be going through this I said
34:05none of these cities should have gone through this Chicago you know what this
34:07is to Chicago Denver you know I aligned myself with all of these cities because
34:13no city should have had gone through this and it was not only governor Abbott
34:17let's be clear what he did was wrong but it was not only him and and and even a
34:22federal government was sending people here the administration was sending
34:26people here and so we need to be clear it was wrong for cities to pick up the
34:31weight of a national problem that was wrong
34:38governor Newsom who has an economy that's like the fifth largest in the
34:42world with these tariffs is now asking his advisors to open up conversations
34:49with international trading partners would that be something this is a
34:53trading city was before it was America is that something that you'd entertain
34:58you know the world would you be willing to think creatively and maybe in a case
35:02of these tariffs keep going up open up conversations with other parts of the
35:06world you know this conversation I was looking to some I was listening to some
35:11tapes and doing some reading over the last few days and some interviews and
35:16reading a few books on this you know and I must have spent you know a great part
35:22of the weekend reading up on tariffs and I still don't understand them you know
35:26these are very complex conversation and you know people spend their lives
35:32understanding the balance of our economy just one thing I know whatever we were
35:38doing it was not working affordability is an issue for everyday New Yorkers
35:45wealth has been accumulated in the highest level of people in the country
35:49and I'm seeing low-income working-class people are struggling every day and so
35:53whatever we were doing we need to think differently and I want to spend more
35:58time of understanding this tariff conversation but there are greater minds
36:02than my then in my mind that understand this more than I do and I don't I'm not
36:08even going to try to act like I'm an expert on the balance of tariffs and an
36:12international trade I'm trying to learn more about it just been dropped in all
36:16of our plate on all of our plates and we need to learn more and I think this is
36:20a this is an excellent moment of civic understanding I think our children need
36:26to be talking about this in schools what does this mean all this is playing out
36:30over our heads so we need to dig into and say what does this mean what is what
36:34are both sides of this issue on is this the right thing to do the wrong thing to
36:38do but what I do know that everyday people are watching their paychecks not
36:43provide for their family so something was wrong and we need to figure out the
36:48right solution I'm criticizing losing 200 million I'm gonna say what you're
37:09asking me I'm criticizing losing 200 million you know so I'm not gonna wait
37:14to seven billion dollars I'm criticizing losing 200 million is you
37:18know there is a and you guys have been trying this for a long time particularly
37:22your your outlet you know you want to see me fighting because of those who are
37:27just angry right now I'm just not in that crew again I'm a I'm going to
37:36criticize anything that takes away our money so I know you would like to see me
37:41in a fight I know that's I know you look forward to that okay okay okay I'm
37:48glad you the rhetoric judge go ahead
37:56you know just just to follow up on some of these questions yes you do keep
38:01coming back and not just today yes to the seven billion dollars yes and I get
38:05that the city was in a bad place yes but you know in fairness that was then
38:10this is now you've sort of suggested your reluctance to criticize the Trump
38:16administration publicly was going to be good for New York but but what do you
38:21say to people who are asking the question what is New York getting from
38:25your relationship with the Trump administration the same thing we got
38:28with my relationship in the Biden's administration I got Joe Biden the
38:32president to come to New York when we were dealing with a real crime problem
38:36we did not have an ATF head we brought him here and we sat down and we met with
38:42NYPD personnel we took him over to our crisis management team members and saw
38:48what we were doing on on the ground we were able to get additional funding
38:52because of that that's what we get it every administration you want to have
38:57these conversations in relationship you we cannot ignore the fact and we need
39:02to be honest with that fact that there's some people who are just angry because
39:06the elections didn't turn out the way they want and because of that they just
39:10want this verbal war I don't want a verbal war I want to be able to produce
39:14for our city I want to bring in a transportation secretary to go down to
39:19the BQE to see why we have to get the BQE completed I want to have real
39:25conversation about getting resources to working-class class people and so it may
39:30be enjoyable to someone for me to get into a verbal conversation conversation
39:35it took almost a year before I started publicly criticizing the president
39:39around the migrants in asylum seekers almost a year after 10 trips to
39:43Washington after communicating with their staff and so I'm not going to fall
39:48into let's just get angry I have to produce for the city of New York and I'm
39:54going to use my best abilities to do so the same way I did with the previous
39:58administration let in Jake let in Jake go what specifically a New Yorker secure
40:04border we went from a hundred two hundred thirty thousand migrants in
40:10asylum seekers busloads coming in continuously we have a secure border now
40:15and the numbers have trickled down you know to a substantial state collaboration
40:21with Homeland Security Secretary and ICE to go after dangerous people who
40:26burn women on the train shoot at police officers attack migrants in asylum
40:31seekers and have been able to go in our criminal justice system and just come
40:34right back out and repeatedly do it over and over again someone that's finally
40:39listening to me saying that my city must be safe and we cannot create problems on
40:46a national level that will create that so we're getting things that I need and
40:50we're gonna fight if we believe that money has been reclawed back from her in
40:56a real way so there's there's there's something to we don't see ice in our
41:02schools did y'all realize that there's something to we don't see ice in our
41:07churches we don't see enforcement major sweeps going through employments people
41:14call the police you don't see the police officers turn in people who are
41:17undocumented over to to to police officers so what are we getting we get
41:21cooperation we think cooperation are they gonna be places we're gonna
41:25disagree yes yes I keep saying I don't agree myself all the time so yes we are
41:31that's that is what administrations are you go back and forth with Albany now
41:37everybody say well you know you talk to the president so did how cool do you
41:41know how cool met with the president right so I mean do you know that okay so
41:49if if it's tell me something if it's all right for governor if it's all right for
41:53governor Hoku to meet with the president it's not all right for me to meet with
41:57the president I mean this stuff has to start making sense I'm the mayor of the
42:01largest city in America imagine me not having a relationship with the president
42:08of the most important country on the globe this doesn't make sense get over
42:13he's the president now he's a president popular vote electoral vote we got to
42:19get over this we got a I got to deliver for our city and that's and that's what
42:24I need to need to do and all those who are saying oh just fight and resist
42:27resist resist I'm not part of resist movement I'm part of the produce
42:32movement that's why we broke records in the city that's why we getting it done
43:02so I'm going to a DJ let's pop down there I'm going to go and have the
43:15precinct commander go down I don't know if I could do it today or tomorrow know
43:18what I'm doing but we're gonna we're going to see what's going on down there
43:22we used to have that problem before we cleaned it up yes so I'm going I'm going
43:32in I'm going to be Joe Torres you know and see if people approach approach me
43:37you know we got 65 million tourists that came to the city second largest in the
43:41city history and I want to make sure they're not scam I want to make sure
43:44that they are treated in respectful way so I'm gonna go down with the precinct
43:48commander and find out exactly what he's doing about that because that can't
43:54happen we don't want people down there doing that yeah yeah interesting
44:01interesting what's happening how are you
44:07one just about your legal case obviously your your case is done but
44:11there were two other people who were charged you know directly in relation to
44:14your case Mohammed Baghi and Arden Arkin the businessman their cases were
44:19not dropped they it looks like you're going to be convicted do you think
44:23that's fair that that you are you know done and they are still going to face
44:27penalties for criminal liability for the alleged exact same scheme and the second
44:35question just a policy thing the hotel industry is making a big push to lower
44:39occupancy tax that's charged to tourists which they say would encourage more
44:44people to visit do you support that it's a budget ask yeah they have
44:48attorneys and I think that question should be presented to their attorneys I
44:52think judge was clear I was innocent to proving guilty and he makes a
44:56determination to assist dismissed with prejudice with the hotel occupancy tax
45:01we need to do whatever we can to ensure our success around hotels and our team
45:07is looking at the possibility of dropping the tax so that we continue to
45:11be competitive the hotel industry has done well under this administration I
45:16was at Hannock yesterday last night we want to continue to get people in our
45:22city of you know as I stated 65 million tourists second largest in the city's
45:27history and the way we did it is because of public safety you know people want to
45:33come to a safe city we the safest big city in America and oftentimes a lot of
45:37people when I go to Times Square they say one of the most important things
45:41that attracted us to the city is that we know we've always seen you but we
45:45would like to come see you in real time as the mayor people so I'm a big tourist
45:49draw for the city you know Jay Jay are what's up brother
45:57how are you quite well congratulations on your charges being dismissed good for
46:03you so mr. mayor over the weekend you and
46:07president Trump's Transportation Secretary wrote the New York City
46:11subway could you share with New Yorkers what that trip is about composting in
46:19New York City what are the fines for not composting in New York City you know I
46:28was just looking at some of the the numbers we give you the exact fine
46:33numbers or what they are but you know part of this is to encourage people to
46:38do composting not only you know to because we want to do citations as a way
46:44of taxation but the people be engaged you know we're having a real
46:47environmental issue and you know we look at in a two-year rollout the amount of
46:52composting material diverted from landfill went up 60 65 percent and if we
46:58can get people to normalize that of you know composting their food straps it is
47:04good for our environment and it is good make good sense on how we we use those
47:12items that won't fall into our landfills and so it's imperative that number one
47:19the public understand the separations of composting how to carry it out and to
47:23encourage people to do it and we don't want just we don't want to just hit
47:27people with fines to encourage them we want people to buy into the program and
47:31make sure there's uncorrectly so we will I'll give you the exact number but you
47:36know you everybody talked about it having a citywide composting program we
47:41were able to accomplish it you know what other people talk about we're able to do
47:45that's why I keep saying I'm running on my record because this is what we're
47:50able to do
