Former Sheffield United hero Phil Jagielka gives his view on the top end of the Championship with Blades, Leeds United and Burnley battling for the top two spots
Transcript
00:00You would have been in this position where you're at the business end, every game's big, there's tension, it's really tight at the top, nobody wants to draw points.
00:13How do you get beyond that to try and push it all? I think Chris Wilder's spoken about getting rid of the noise around you.
00:21Yeah, I think you're fully aware when you start a championship season, it's a long season.
00:25No one's really ever promoted unless you have a fantastic season by now, it normally goes to the end, especially with the quality that's in there this year and the way it's gone.
00:34You know, there's always been three teams, maybe four if you count Sunderland for the first half of the season competing for those two places to get automatic promotion.
00:42And yeah, it's trying not to get too stressed, you called it a wobble, it's just what happens in the championship.
00:48There's no guarantees, everyone beats everyone and like I say, just after Leeds has potentially dropped some points,
00:53which you hope as a Sheffield United fan that you can then go and take advantage of that, but that wasn't the case.
00:58But again, the way the championship is, the games are thick and fast and, you know, there's no week to stew on it and worry about it.
01:05It's get yourself ready for the next game and try and get those three points and Chris Wilder's been here before,
01:10his backroom staff's been here before the players have, so I'd like to think that the boys know what they're doing.
01:14And I'd say it'll be a big game, it always is, every single game's a big game from now to the end of the season.
01:20But, you know, if they can get the three points and sort of get back on the horse and hopefully the promotion pushes still where it needs to be.
01:27You'll have been in this position before, won't you?
01:29Yeah, we had it where I think it was us and Reading went up and then I think Leeds lost the game and then that eventually got us the promotion.
01:36But you're fully aware of the situation, you do look at the table, you know what the points tally is and stuff like that.
01:42But again, once the game starts, all you're trying to do as a Sheffield United player, a manager, a fan, all you want at the moment is wins.
01:49So the league, the positions and all sorts will take care of themselves.
01:53But it's a good opportunity for the boys to come back here and hopefully get a win.
01:57Are you confident?
01:58Yeah, confident, but not too overconfident.
02:00I might say three fantastic teams that have been in the Premier League of recent years and whoever, whichever two come out on top will be delighted.
02:08And the third, it'll be a tough turnaround to potentially try and get up in the playoffs.
