00:10Why do the nails grow longer?

00:14Why?

00:15That's a good question because we all have nails, right?

00:19We'll answer your question on your QOTD, Precious Heart,

00:22because we got all the answers!

00:26What do you usually do to your nails?

00:28Do you color it? Do you manicure it?

00:30Or do you bite it when you're nervous?

00:32Aside from those, we can also find out if the vital organs in our body are healthy

00:37just by using our nails.

00:39But Chris, how?

00:42If you press your nail, it will turn white.

00:46And if you let it go, it will return to its original color.

00:49This is one way to check our capillary refill

00:53or how fast our nails grow.

00:55It has something to do with our heart and circulatory health.

00:59If it's two seconds or less, that's the normal flow of blood.

01:03A person has a kidney or liver disease when their nails are two-toned,

01:08half white and half brown or red.

01:10Or when it's two-thirds white.

01:13True or false?

01:14Nails and hair are made of the same material.

01:18Hair is soft and smooth.

01:20Meanwhile, nails are thick, hard, and flat.

01:24But even so, they're made of the same protein.

01:27It's called keratin.

01:29That's why the correct answer is true.

01:32The shape of the keratin cell in the nails is different from that of the hair

01:35because it comes out from the matrix or the root of our nail bed.

01:40The white and oval-shaped lunula in our nails

01:43is the visible part of the matrix.

01:46The nail plate is called the hard surface of the nails.

01:48And underneath it is the nail bed.

01:51Nails also protect the nerve fibers of our nails.

01:56About 1mm a day or 3-4mm a month is the length of our nails.

02:04Nails grow longer due to many factors,

02:06such as gender, time of day, and season.
