00:00What's up you guys and welcome to a new episode of Tony Approved. You can call me
00:05Antoine and today if you're clicking on this video that means that you already
00:08know that I'm gonna be talking about BET's 2019 Hip Hop Awards that just took
00:12place last night. Just wanted to recap some of my favorite moments on the stage
00:16which was mostly all of them because the show really wasn't that bad, contrary to
00:20popular beliefs. First of all, gotta definitely shout out Lil Duval and the
00:23City Boyz who was representing for Florida. Ayy, Duval! Jacksonville, Florida in the
00:29house. I love seeing him on stage representing for us. Love to see Sweetie
00:33taking the main stage and giving her performance. She's definitely climbing
00:36her way up through the hip-hop chain. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little tired of
00:39seeing her perform my type but I love the fact that she brought out Petey Pablo
00:44to the record, reminding everybody what she got that sample from. Definitely
00:47brought a whole new energy into the performance. Hip Hop Awards did battle rap
00:51this year. I actually enjoyed all of the battle rap rounds because battle rap is
00:55really a sport and almost a lost art form when it really comes to hip-hop and
01:00rap. I can go into a whole different video on really what hip-hop and rap is
01:04separately but I definitely enjoyed it. Shout out to DNA for being the winner. I
01:08thought he was the best of the night so I was glad he took home the money. My
01:12chocolate brother, DaBaby, was killing it all night long. I swear he hit the stage
01:16more, almost more, than Duval. He killed his performance. The intro and
01:21babysitter, I was happy to see Offset come out. I like the fact that DaBaby
01:25performed two songs off his album. One off his new album, Kirk, the other off of his
01:29last album, Baby on Baby, which just, hey, keep people listening to the albums and
01:33keeping them in rotation. I actually did a review for DaBaby's Kirk album. It was
01:38actually supposed to be posted yesterday from the date of this video but I
01:42exported the video and then it didn't export correctly and I deleted the
01:45original so I just basically lost all my files and the other video that I
01:49recorded that night as well. So, you know, I have to take this L and just, you know,
01:52learn to be more careful with my videos.
02:04I actually reviewed Megan's Mixtape Fever on my channel. I'll leave a link
02:08down in the comment section so you guys be able to check that video out.
02:18Megan did a great job opening the show. I love the fact that her whole set was a
02:22boat. You know, Megan really has been driving the boat. Megan has been a hot
02:25girl summer all summer. Shout out to Rapsody. I really enjoyed her performance.
02:29I love the fact that she gave us a whole little freestyle where she shouted out
02:33all of the female rappers. Rapsody performed her song Nina and Cleo off of
02:38her album Eve and it was just a real nice performance. I'm really happy to see
02:44Rapsody's platform continue to rise and her to continue to get the shine that
02:48she so rightly deserves. I'm definitely gonna review her album on my channel
02:52so stay tuned for that review. You know, she's just a real hip-hop artist so it
02:56takes me a minute to kind of really digest all of her art because, you know,
03:00music is an art form. And what's funny is when DaBaby and Lil Baby came on stage
03:05and they did their performance, I really enjoyed it and I was thinking, dang, it's
03:08a great moment to see both babies on stage performing but it'd be great if we
03:12had more moments like this with other female rappers and definitely a lot of
03:16them have been breaking down that door and working with each other more but I
03:20wish we celebrated the female collaborations as much as we celebrate
03:23the males. Most of the time we kind of pick and choose which collaboration we
03:26like to celebrate and that's unfortunate. Of course, the night was all about the
03:31Queen B, Lil' Kim, who received the I Am Hip-Hop Legends Award. Love Lil' Kim's
03:37speech. There's almost nothing that I can say about Lil' Kim is that I'm just so
03:42happy to see a lot of the artists that I grew up on finally actually reaching
03:47legendary status and, you know, getting their awards and being awarded and I can
03:51actually sit back and say, hey, I remember all of these songs y'all are playing in
03:55their story video and it's just nice to remind the new school of just, you know,
03:59how iconic and legendary Lil' Kim really is in these streets. So, shout out to her
04:03and I loved her speech. Very inspiring. Just to trust God and the
04:07plan that he has out there for you. You just got to make sure that you're in
04:11place when he needs you to be. Lil' Kim look great as well. You know, fashion
04:16fashionista, just period. Hip-Hop Awards also decided to do a comedy cypher. My
04:20favorite comic, my favorite comedic rapper, cypher, however you say it. I think his name is
04:27pronounced Carlos or Carlos Miller. He was actually my favorite of the night. He made me
04:32laugh the most. I really liked his and the good thing about the comedy cypher
04:36is they legit got better and better after each one and I love it when the
04:40cyphers do that. Chance the Rapper decided to perform Sundown, which is a
04:45song off of his new album Big Day. I'm glad that he, now his album has a whole
04:49bunch of songs, so it's a lot of records he could have chose, but he chose one
04:52where he's actually spinning, spinning some rhymes that, excuse me, spinning some
04:59rhymes that really have a nice story and really make you think if you really
05:02count on a higher level when you're thinking, a higher level when you listen to your
05:06art, when listening to your music. You know, even with his line, my friend had
05:10pointed out the fact that he said his first line he opens up with for his song
05:14is, please don't make my death about my death, and that's such a powerful
05:18statement because it's kind of basically him saying when I finally die, I want you
05:23guys to make sure you celebrate everything that I've done and all of the
05:26hearts that I've touched, not the fact of how I died, where I died, why I died, and
05:30all the other stuff, you know, focus on the legacy that I left and then he just
05:34takes off from there, so I really was happy to see him perform that song. The
05:37performance was really nice. His background was on point. You definitely
05:41could tell that they had soundcheck. Unfortunately for all of my viewers out
05:44there, if you guys didn't get a chance to check it out tonight, BET is actually
05:47streaming all of the performances on their YouTube channel, so go ahead, check
05:52them out, and then come back and leave a comment down in the comment section. Let
05:55me know what your favorite performances were. If you saw the show, go ahead and
05:59comment and tell me what you think. Please make sure you like and subscribe.
06:01I want you guys to stay in the know for everything that I have coming at you
06:05guys. That is all I have for this video. Please make sure you go ahead and check
06:09out other videos that I have on my channel because there are so much other
06:13things that are totally approved, including, like I mentioned, that Megan
06:16reviewed for her album Fever. Check it out and I'll see you guys back soon with
06:21another video.
