Agra, UP: Nearly a month after Manav Sharma, a tech professional, died by suicide, police have arrested his wife Nikita Sharma and father-in-law Nripendra Sharma from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. A reward of Rs 10,000 each had been declared for the absconding duo, and a non-bailable warrant was also issued against them prior to their arrest.

Manav, who worked as a recruitment manager in Mumbai, was found dead at his home in Defence Colony, Agra, on February 24. He had recorded a video before his death, blaming his wife for mentally harassing him and pushing him towards suicide. His death triggered a major investigation, with his family accusing Nikita and her relatives of driving him to take the extreme step.

Initially, Nikita had released a video alleging that Manav suspected her of infidelity and used to hit her. However, a later, undated video surfaced in which she admitted to hiding her past sexual relationships and apologizing to Manav. She could be heard saying he never hit her—contradicting her earlier claims.

Manav’s sister, Akanksha Sharma, accused Nikita of emotionally blackmailing and threatening him over divorce, claiming that Nikita warned Manav his parents would suffer if he tried to end the marriage. She said Manav became depressed after learning about his wife's past relationships and suspected ongoing contact with another man.

Despite multiple police summons, Nikita did not appear for questioning. Her mother and sister were arrested on March 13, and a hunt for her and her father continued until they were located in Ahmedabad.

Police have now arrested five people in connection with the abetment of suicide case, acting on a complaint filed by Manav's father, a retired Air Force officer.

The tragic case has stirred public debate around mental health, emotional abuse, and the complexities of strained marital relationships.
