Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, Chancellor Rachel Reeves, and Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan visited Ronnie Scott's jazz bar in London after the government announced new steps in collaboration with business leaders to boost the UK's hospitality sector. 00:00in Soho for a while, so it's a safe place to come as well, that's the other thing.
00:04We'll start with a pilot in London, we want to give Mayor Sadiq Khan the chance
00:12to be able to give licenses to enable more outside dining, to allow bars and
00:19cafes and nightclubs to stay open a bit longer in the evening, so that more
00:24people can see what our great capital city has to offer, but then also roll
00:29this out across the country. I'm not going to give figures at this time, we'll
00:34start with a pilot, we're confident that will be successful, and then have those
00:38opportunities all around the country.
00:46£62 billion in hospitality for the industry in terms of our economy is huge,
00:53as well as the cultural experiences that I for one like to enjoy, and I think
00:58millions of others in the UK do, so the announcement today working with Sadiq
01:03on making sure we can get licensing right here in London to rejuvenate the
01:08night-time industry, I think is a real key step in what the Chancellor was
01:12setting out about how we can look at the wider task force. We know there's other
01:16challenges, but hopefully some of the measures we've taken already will put
01:20more money in people's pockets, therefore they'll have more money to spend in the
01:24economy, and we'll be able to support you not just with the licensing that
01:28Sadiq wants to do here in London, but across the whole of our industries.
