00:00The Education Department made a triple fund for the school-based feeding program.

00:06It is also in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.

00:10that the nutrition of the children who will study will be targeted.

00:27It's very hard. Sometimes, we don't have enough budget.

00:30How many times have you been to school?

00:32Sometimes, twice. Sometimes, once.

00:35That's why she is very thankful whenever there is a feeding program

00:39or free food that is given to the school by her two grandchildren.

00:44They are happy because they are getting full.

00:47They are excited. They are happy.

00:48Our budget is able to reduce that.

00:51The administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. is very strict.

00:57The nutrition of the children who will study is in the Department of Education.

01:01That's why, from more than Php 3 billion,

01:03the funding for the school-based feeding program was tripled and made Php 11 billion.

01:10The feeding days are 160 days,

01:13or the days of giving free food,

01:16and 15 days were added to the National Learning Camp.

01:21It aims to address malnutrition and improve the school performance of the children

01:27by distributing nutritious food and drinks to the students from kindergarten to elementary school.

01:34Education Secretary Sunny Angara said,

01:37it is important to provide the right nutrition to the children,

01:40especially for the brains of the children before they reach the age of 5.

01:45We have this exam called the CARLA exam.

01:47It measures the literacy of the child, the ability to read.

01:51It improved, especially at the early grades.

01:55It shows that the earlier we intervene, the better.

01:59The help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development was also distributed

02:04to ensure that Filipinos will not starve.

02:07Of the Php 300,000 households,

02:09or equivalent to Php 1,000,000 and 500,000 individuals,

02:13Php 3,000 a month of assistance to buy food from the agency was received.

02:19The DSWD's hunger-free kitchen also contributes

02:23by distributing hot meals.

02:27Filipinos should not starve.

02:32That is why the DSWD is striving to harmonize and align

02:37the various programs and services of the national government agencies

02:41and that would continue to partner with the private sector

02:44so that we could collectively come up with sustainable solutions

02:47that would ultimately address the problem on hunger and malnutrition.
