00:00and they've been talking a lot about rule changes.
00:03Why don't you kick it off there?
00:05All right, Scott, so every year in March,
00:08this is where we see changes, right?
00:11They'll confirm things are gonna stay
00:13and some things are gonna change in the future
00:15for the upcoming season.
00:17And sometimes, by the way, they're permanent.
00:19So let's get started with the dynamic kickoff situation.
00:23So you saw last year, it was complete change.
00:25They looked at other leagues,
00:28they wanted to make the kickoff more exciting.
00:31They thought it worked well.
00:32I was told a couple of months ago
00:34that it was gonna stay, but...
00:35And the other thing that was that
00:37I thought would happen, happened.
00:39They moved the kickoffs now.
00:41So as you know, Scott,
00:44it's been so boring for a number of years.
00:47Yes, they're gonna stay with the dynamic kickoff,
00:49but the other thing is, listen,
00:50if it goes into the end zone,
00:52the touchback's gonna go from the 30,
00:54last year from the 35.
00:56That one was, a lot of special teams coaches
00:59I talked to said that that would probably happen.
01:01It did.
01:02They're still tweaking this.
01:03They still want the kickoff to not only stay.
01:06I know when they've changed some things
01:08over the years for player safety,
01:09there were all sorts of rumors.
01:10Oh, the league wants the kickoff out.
01:12No, they don't.
01:13They want it to be more exciting.
01:14So they're doing that.
01:15Now, the other thing is,
01:17is they're gonna move the overtime rule, Scott.
01:20They're gonna go with the playoff rules
01:23in the regular season, which now, Scott,
01:26both teams will have one possession.
01:28You can't have separate rules,
01:30so they're gonna have that.
01:31That was such a no-brainer.
01:33Now, but the thing that I absolutely love
01:34is the replay assist, Scott.
01:38You've seen that.
01:39One of the big things that we've all had problems with
01:41is the consistency and officiating, right?
01:43Get it right, and we've had this replay assist.
01:46Well, they're gonna expand it,
01:48and they're gonna make sure that
01:51fouls include tripping, roughing the kicker,
01:54face mask, horse collar tackles, Scott.
01:56Sometimes, you know, the refs can't see it in real time.
02:00They're gonna miss things.
02:01Well, that's where they're expanding this replay assist.
02:04Thank goodness they're doing this.
02:06And I would like to see other sports do it.
02:08You know, the NBA has, obviously, it's replay,
02:10which they've brought in in recent years,
02:12but I just like that the NFL is about getting it right,
02:16and you know how sometimes fans will go on social media
02:21accuse a ref for being on the take and all that stuff,
02:24which is obviously nonsense,
02:26but the NFL gets it right, again, with replay assist.
02:29I'm glad that they're doing that.
02:31And the other thing, Scott, is this thing,
02:34I don't know why they didn't do it years ago, okay?
02:38How could a billion-dollar business
02:40not get it right with measurements?
02:41So no more chain gang.
02:43The chain gang is out.
02:44They're there.
02:46There's a backup now if they can't get it right with video,
02:49with the Hawkeye system by Sony.
02:52So they're gonna replace the traditional chain gang.
02:54They're gonna get it right by video.
02:56Thank goodness this has come in.
02:58Think about it, the ridiculousness
03:00of them getting it wrong for decades,
03:02when sometimes it's very clear,
03:04when you could see on TV, by replay,
03:07that it's so clear that the guy got the first down,
03:10and now they're gonna get it right,
03:12no more guessing by refs with the chain gang.
03:15They're actually gonna get it right with video.
