Etawah: A devastating fire, triggered by a spark from a high-tension power line, reduced 28 bighas of wheat crop to ashes in Bharthana, Etawah. The blaze, which broke out on Thursday afternoon near Kashiram Colony in Nagla Gude village, left four farmers with massive losses.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread rapidly after a spark from the overhead power line ignited the standing crop. Within minutes, the flames engulfed not only the fields but also the bundles of harvested wheat. Despite desperate attempts by villagers to douse the fire using buckets of water, the blaze intensified before the fire department could arrive.

The affected farmers include Mukesh Tiwari (18 bighas), Shyam Kishore Tiwari (3 bighas), Umesh Chandra (5 bighas), and Snehlata (2 bighas). While timely intervention by locals helped prevent further damage, their six months of hard work was reduced to ashes in moments.

Upon receiving information, the regional lekhpal visited the site and assessed the damage. The farmers are now urging the administration for compensation. Local officials have assured them that a report will be forwarded to higher authorities to facilitate relief measures.
