00:00137 Bristol Roads are set to close for surface dressing works. The project involves road
00:09closures impacting local residents and commuters. From April 7th, 137 roads across 25 Bristol
00:20wards will have surface dressing treatment to prolong the life of the roads and prevent
00:26damage from the water and UV lights. The process includes the following three stages which
00:33will be carried out on different days and are dependent on weather conditions. The process
00:39is as follows. Firstly, they must apply the surface dressing. A layer of Butamon is sprayed
00:45onto the road surface, followed by a layer of stone chippings. Secondly, they have to
00:52spray the road with Butamon. This step helps to prevent loss of the stone chippings and
00:58provides a protective seal. And finally, painting the road markings upon the surface when it
01:05has settled, which can often be a lengthy process. Roads will be closed to apply the
01:11surface dressing, which normally takes around two hours and roads must be cleared of all
01:17parked vehicles for all stages one and two in the works. There may also be some restrictions
01:24for the final marking phase. Signs will be put up to inform residents and road users
01:29about any upcoming works and vehicles left on the road will be towed away to a nearby
01:34street. Surface dressing all 137 roads is expected to take approximately two months
01:41to complete, although the road marking stage may take longer.
