00:00:00This place seems so much smaller than I remember as a kid.
00:00:28A kid, huh?
00:00:29You know what I mean.
00:00:30Oh, they still have the wishing well.
00:00:32Can I have a quarter for a wish?
00:00:35A quarter?
00:00:36Yeah.
00:00:37Did you know that when you were little, a wish only cost a penny?
00:00:39It's called inflation, Mom.
00:00:40Oh, really?
00:00:41Mm-hmm.
00:00:42Okay.
00:00:43Well, these will have to do.
00:00:45Two nickels.
00:00:46I'll be right back.
00:00:47So, Tony, are you going to tell me what you wish for?
00:01:05Do I have to?
00:01:06I'm your mother.
00:01:07You have to tell me everything.
00:01:08Fine.
00:01:09With one nickel, I wish for things to get better between you and Dad.
00:01:18And the other, I wish to find a best friend.
00:01:21But you have a lot of friends.
00:01:23Yeah, but it would be nice to find a best friend who isn't trying so hard to impress
00:01:28everyone all the time.
00:01:29Someone I can hang out with and just be.
00:01:32We're called human beings, right?
00:01:36I can be your friend.
00:01:37Thanks, Mom, but someone my own age would be nice.
00:01:40Okay.
00:01:41Yeah.
00:01:42Um, one time at science camp, we did an experiment where we let go of a weather balloon.
00:01:47It got about 30 yards, then it hit a spruce tree and popped.
00:01:53Hmm.
00:01:57That gives me an idea.
00:01:58Okay.
00:01:59Come on.
00:02:00It's gonna be fun.
00:02:03You see what he's doing there?
00:02:04Uh, blowing up the balloon?
00:02:06No, it's called inflation.
00:02:10Oh, no.
00:02:11You made me snort.
00:02:13I always do.
00:02:17What are you doing?
00:02:20You want to find a friend?
00:02:21Let the fates decide.
00:02:23But if the while, I think on thee, dear friend, all losses are restored and sorrows end.
00:02:36Of course you go with Shakespeare.
00:02:38Sonnets number 30.
00:02:39Okay.
00:02:40Your turn.
00:02:41Okay.
00:02:51So, what did you write?
00:02:53A secret between me and my future BFF.
00:02:55Oh, okay.
00:02:56Are you ready?
00:02:57Yeah.
00:02:58Five, four, three, two, one.
00:03:06Sorry.
00:03:36Hey.
00:03:37Hey!
00:03:44Hi.
00:03:49Hey Grace.
00:03:56Hey.
00:04:01Did you not plan on eating today?
00:04:04No thanks, I'll just grab something at the snack shop.
00:04:06Are you sure? I put a cupcake in here.
00:04:11I had a feeling.
00:04:13You sure you don't want me to drive you?
00:04:15Nope, I'm good. Thanks.
00:04:17Alright, love you. Bye.
00:04:20Teenagers are tough.
00:04:22I'm sorry.
00:04:24Did you not plan on eating today?
00:04:26Nope, I'm good. Thanks.
00:04:28Alright, love you. Bye.
00:04:30Teenagers are tough.
00:04:32You can say that again.
00:04:34Oh don't worry, it gets easier.
00:04:36But not for a while.
00:04:38You a teenager?
00:04:39No, but I was one once, and I have two sisters.
00:04:42We did not make it easy on my parents, that's for sure.
00:04:45How do they manage three girls?
00:04:47Well, my dad mostly deferred to my mom.
00:04:50That's just my daughter and me.
00:04:52I was driving trucks a couple months ago.
00:04:54I've been meaning to come by and introduce myself.
00:04:56Audrey Walensky.
00:04:57Hi Audrey, Jack McCabe. Nice to meet you.
00:04:59That's my daughter Grace.
00:05:01Must be hard being a single father.
00:05:03Feel free to let me know if you need anything.
00:05:06I just live down the street, Greenhouse.
00:05:08Yeah, I will do.
00:05:09I have to head off to work. I'll see you around, Audrey.
00:05:11Nice to meet you, Jack.
00:05:12Take care.
00:05:23Go ahead.
00:05:28Alright, thank you.
00:05:50Okay everyone, settle down. I'm going to start handing out your papers.
00:05:53Hey Liv, any big plans for spring break?
00:05:56We have a basketball tournament up in Portland.
00:05:58Nice. I love basketball.
00:06:00I used to play at my old school.
00:06:04You guys can do better.
00:06:08That's on you, McCabe.
00:06:10Okay, I don't know about your old school, but it is very competitive here.
00:06:14So if you want to be my lab partner, you're going to need to step up your game big time.
00:06:23Hi Maya.
00:06:24Hi.
00:06:25I cannot wait for this day to be over.
00:06:27Hey, what did you get on your project with Liv?
00:06:30C-minus.
00:06:32Ouch.
00:06:33I bet she wasn't happy about that.
00:06:35She was brutal.
00:06:36Don't worry about Liv. She's harmless.
00:06:38I thought you liked science, though. What happened?
00:06:40Yeah, I don't know.
00:06:42It's not the same as my old school.
00:06:44This place is different than most places I've lived.
00:06:47It's harder to meet people here, and you're the only person who talks to me, and that's only because you're my peer tutor.
00:06:52That's not true.
00:06:53I mean, I get extra credit for doing it, but I think you're pretty cool.
00:06:56Thanks. You too.
00:06:59Have you eaten lunch yet?
00:07:00No, I didn't. I'm starving.
00:07:02Here, have half of this.
00:07:04Thanks.
00:07:07So good. I haven't had a PB&J since I was a kid.
00:07:10That's my dad. It's one of the only four foods he knows how to make.
00:07:13It's kind of cute that he still makes your lunches for you, though. My dad just hands me money.
00:07:17He still treats me like a kid, though. It's so annoying. He didn't even ask if I was okay moving here. He just got a job and that was it.
00:07:25Parents are like that. All they care about is their jobs and money.
00:07:29Okay, I better go.
00:07:32Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out during the break.
00:07:35I'd love to, but I'm going to Whistler with my parents.
00:07:39Sounds fun.
00:07:40Yeah. Thanks again for the sandwich. I'll see you later.
00:07:43You're welcome. Bye.
00:07:47I grant I never saw a goddess go. My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground.
00:07:53I think my love is rare, as any she belied with false compare.
00:08:01Emily, what do you think Shakespeare was trying to say to the Dark Lady?
00:08:06I don't know. Maybe that she was, like, pretty and stuff.
00:08:11Talk more about the and stuff. Is Shakespeare being sarcastic? Flirtatious? Perhaps ironic?
00:08:18Yeah, probably one of those.
00:08:22I'm aware that many of you are taking this course to fulfill a requirement,
00:08:26but you may want to check my office hours before next week's in-class essay if you need more help.
00:08:33Class dismissed.
00:08:37Have students always been this disengaged?
00:08:40I'm not sure they're more disengaged, but they're certainly more interested in the social aspects of college over academics.
00:08:45Yeah. I mean, I'm sure it was the same way as an undergrad.
00:08:48Oh, you and me both. Being young isn't easy. All those hormones and a wide-open future.
00:08:55It's exhilarating and scary all at the same time.
00:09:01Are you okay?
00:09:03Yeah, you just reminded me of something Tawny once said about everyone trying to impress each other.
00:09:07Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-
00:09:09No, it's fine, Chris. Really.
00:09:12How are you doing with everything?
00:09:15Grief makes one hour ten.
00:09:18Shakespeare. He always had an answer for everything.
00:09:21Well, if you need to talk, I won't even charge you.
00:09:25Well, the benefits of having a friend that's a psych professor. No, I'm fine.
00:09:28But I might take you up on that someday.
00:09:31Absolutely.
00:09:36I've been struggling all day to find jobs to keep my guys busy here. They're ready to break ground.
00:09:40I know that, Jack. But I need you to hold down the floor. Can you do that?
00:09:45Yes, sir.
00:09:46You know how these things are, Jack. Bureaucrats.
00:09:48Yes, sir. Yeah, I'll wait on your go-ahead.
00:09:51Enjoy the weekend.
00:09:52You have a good weekend, too.
00:09:55All right, guys. Pack it up for today. Red tape, I guess.
00:10:46Come on.
00:11:16Come on.
00:11:47Hey. What's up? Did you see my calls?
00:11:50Yeah.
00:11:53So what's the point of you having your own phone if you don't even answer my calls?
00:11:57I was worried about you.
00:11:59I didn't feel like talking.
00:12:01You didn't feel like talking? Great.
00:12:05You found your mom's necklace. It looks nice on you.
00:12:09Thanks.
00:12:10Yeah. Talk to me, Gracie.
00:12:14What's going on?
00:12:17I, uh, I have free time this weekend. Let's do something.
00:12:24What's going on?
00:12:26I, uh, I have free time this weekend. Let's do something.
00:12:28What's going on?
00:12:29I, uh, I have free time this weekend. Let's do something.
00:12:35Okay, what's so important that you just had to check your phone in the middle of our conversation?
00:12:40A singer I follow just posted a picture.
00:12:45I see you kids staring down at your phones all day long.
00:12:48Like, look up and appreciate the world.
00:12:52Wow, the sky, the clouds. And what's in that tree?
00:12:59Grace, come on. I'm being serious.
00:13:01No, seriously, there's something in that tree.
00:13:05I don't know. It looks like a kite or something.
00:13:07It kind of looks like a cupcake.
00:13:09Everything looks like a cupcake to you.
00:13:11Should I climb up and get it?
00:13:13No, I'll, I'll grab a ladder later and I'll knock it down.
00:13:18Hey, quick game of horse before dinner?
00:13:23You know you want to.
00:13:25You're on.
00:13:32Are you boycotting your food or something?
00:13:34Did you know the term boycott came from a man in the 1800s?
00:13:37Charles Cunningham boycott.
00:13:39I did not know that.
00:13:42I thought it came from a bunch of boys in sleepaway camp protesting their beds.
00:13:46Boycott. The joke is kind of like this meal.
00:13:49Not your best effort, but not your worst.
00:13:52Ooh, burn.
00:13:54I think brats are my worst meal, yeah?
00:13:56I get it, bratwurst.
00:13:58Now see, you're the only 13-year-old I can imagine getting that joke.
00:14:04You trained me well.
00:14:07Yeah, I did.
00:14:09Which brings me to the next topic.
00:14:11How can such a smarty-pants still be having a hard time in her classes?
00:14:14I got another email from Mr. Brown saying your science grade isn't improving.
00:14:18Even with the tutoring.
00:14:20He's worried that you're underachieving.
00:14:22How does he know I'm underachieving?
00:14:24I've barely been here two months. Maybe it's my normal achieving.
00:14:27They've seen the transcripts from your old school.
00:14:29They know you make straight A's.
00:14:31Well, people change.
00:14:33Do they? Or maybe they make poor decisions.
00:14:35Like moving away three states in the middle of the school year?
00:14:40Grace, I...
00:14:43Look, nowhere's perfect.
00:14:46Look, I'm sorry. I know this hasn't been easy for you.
00:14:48If you want to make new friends, just...
00:14:52Go be friendly.
00:14:53Be friendly?
00:14:54It's not that easy, Dad.
00:14:56I can't just walk up to somebody and ask them to play.
00:14:59I know, I know. I...
00:15:01I know you're not a kid anymore.
00:15:03I wasn't trying...
00:15:09Look, try harder in school, okay?
00:15:12You have such a brilliant mind.
00:15:20Hey.
00:15:21Audrey, right?
00:15:22You remembered. Hi, Jack.
00:15:26You baked us a pie?
00:15:28Just a little welcome to the neighborhood.
00:15:31That's so sweet of you. Come on in.
00:15:33We are just finishing up dinner. I can put some coffee on.
00:15:37Sure.
00:15:38Hey, Gracie.
00:15:39This is our neighbor, Audrey.
00:15:41She brought us this... this fresh pie.
00:15:44Would you like a slice?
00:15:45No, thanks. I'm stuffed.
00:15:47I'm going to go take out the trash.
00:15:52Hmm.
00:16:22Hmm.
00:16:53Looking for a friend?
00:16:54You're not the only one.
00:16:56I've never had a pen pal, but you look like a good one to me.
00:16:59Write to me at the address below.
00:17:01Tony.
00:17:02Look at this.
00:17:06You're not the only one.

00:18:53Yeah, just going to a friend's.
00:18:55Oh, I thought you said you don't have any friends here.
00:18:58Well, more like a potential friend.
00:19:00Mm-hmm.
00:19:02Unless cupcakes must have a lot of potential.
00:19:06Hey, I thought Audrey seemed nice, right?
00:19:08Yeah, I guess.
00:19:12Pies seem like a sweet gesture.
00:19:14Very much like your cupcake.
00:19:17Hey, you know what? Hold on.
00:19:18I can drop you off at your friend's house if you want.
00:19:19Sure.
00:19:21♪♪
00:19:34All right.
00:19:36I think this is it.
00:19:39All right, have fun.
00:19:40Thanks.
00:19:42Bye, Dad.
00:19:45Be careful.
00:19:46I will.
00:19:47And what do you do when the phone rings?
00:19:49Answer it.
00:19:50Bye.
00:20:00♪♪
00:20:08Oh!
00:20:10Sorry.

00:21:44Dear Tony, I found what was left of your balloon
00:21:48in a big tree near my yard.
00:21:51My name is Grace McCabe,
00:21:53and I'm 13 and a freshman at Ash Park High School.
00:21:56My dad and I just moved to town,
00:21:58so, yes, I'm also looking for a friend.
00:22:01I would love to be your pen pal.
00:22:03I assume by your balloon that you must love cupcakes.
00:22:06I love them too, but who doesn't, right?
00:22:10So if you'd like a balloon-finding, cupcake-loving buddy,
00:22:13you can write me back.
00:22:15Maybe email is easier.
00:22:17Grace at GracieCakes.com.
00:22:19P.S. Bonus points if you happen to be good at science,
00:22:22because I'm not doing so hot in that class.
00:22:25P.P.S.? Cool quote.
00:22:27Is that Shakespeare or something?
00:22:30♪♪♪
00:22:38Hey, that was fast.
00:22:40How was your potential friend?
00:22:42Oh, yeah, she wasn't home.
00:22:44Oh, I think, um, whatever was up in this tree
00:22:47must have blown down.
00:22:49Want to do something fun today? Want to go explore town?
00:22:51Audrey was telling me about this great hiking trail
00:22:53not too far from here.
00:22:54Maybe the three of us can go together.
00:22:56I did enough walking today.
00:22:58Would you mind if I went with Audrey?
00:23:00Really? She's our neighbor.
00:23:02Yeah? What's wrong with that?
00:23:04You do whatever you want to do, Jack.
00:23:07It's Dad.
00:23:09And I'll be home in time for the Nuggets game.
00:23:11Maybe finish unpacking your stuff.
00:23:14♪♪♪
00:23:22Dear Grace McCabe,
00:23:24thank you so much for writing to let us know
00:23:26you found Antonia's balloon.
00:23:28We did that experiment to find a new friend,
00:23:30and I guess it was a success.
00:23:32I hope you're enjoying your new home.
00:23:34It's a wonderful town to grow up in.
00:23:37Your new friend, Noelle Webb.
00:23:39P.S., there's a great bookstore cafe near your school.
00:23:42It's a good place to do homework, check out comic books,
00:23:44and meet other kids.
00:23:46♪♪♪♪
00:23:50Oh, good, you got the game on.
00:23:52What's the score?
00:23:53Nuggets up four, Joker already has 12.
00:23:56Here.
00:24:01You're looking chipper.
00:24:03I made a new friend, Noelle.
00:24:05Remember that girl's house I went to?
00:24:07And she wasn't home?
00:24:08Yeah.
00:24:09Well, her sister emailed me.
00:24:11She told me about this cool bookstore in town.
00:24:13Hey, good for you, see that?
00:24:15Things are coming together for you.
00:24:17Now you just have to concentrate on your grades.
00:24:21And...
00:24:22Oh!
00:24:23From downtown!
00:24:25Nice for three and one.
00:24:27Ah!
00:24:28Oh, be right back.
00:24:32You just in time.
00:24:33Oh, yeah.
00:24:34I hope you like pepperoni.
00:24:35Oh, yeah, my favorite.
00:24:36Well, let me take your jacket.
00:24:37Sure.
00:24:38What are we watching, hockey?
00:24:39You guys can watch.
00:24:40I'm going to finish unpacking my room.
00:24:42Hey, seriously, why don't you just finish your pizza?
00:24:44I'm good.
00:24:51Dear Noelle and Antonia.
00:24:57Hey, girlfriends.
00:25:03I was happy to...
00:25:06No.
00:25:07I was pleased to hear from you.
00:25:14A little help here?
00:25:17Dear Noelle.
00:25:19I'm so happy to hear from you.
00:25:21Sorry for leaving the letter on your front porch.
00:25:23I hope that didn't seem stalkerish.
00:25:25I was too excited to wait for snail mail.
00:25:27Where's Tony?
00:25:28Are you two into Shakespeare?
00:25:30Seems like he's a pretty big deal in this town.
00:25:32Thanks for the tip about the bookstore.
00:25:34I'll def check it out.
00:25:36Do you ever feel like sometimes people can leave us at the absolute worst time,
00:25:40but then the right person can also show up at exactly the right time?
00:25:44That's how I felt when I saw that balloon.
00:25:46It's like you literally fell from the sky.
00:25:48Anyway, hope you're having a great day.
00:25:51Grace.
00:26:01Noelle Webb?
00:26:02Yes?
00:26:04You've been served.
00:26:29Five minute warning to complete your essays.
00:26:38Just a reminder, I will be giving extra credit to anyone who attends Sommets Under the Stars tonight.
00:26:52Hot chocolate?
00:26:59Cool necklace.
00:27:01I haven't seen you here before.
00:27:03First time. We moved to Ashland a couple months ago.
00:27:06Nice. Well, welcome. You found the coolest place in town. Congrats.
00:27:10Good to know.
00:27:19Dear Grace, Shakespeare once said,
00:27:22What's past is prologue.
00:27:24Which to me means the present is exactly how it's meant to be because of the past.
00:27:29I'm glad you found that balloon.
00:27:31Have a great rest of the day. Your friend, Noelle.
00:27:47What are you doing home so early?
00:27:49Um, apparently there's some issue with our contract.
00:27:53I am loving this new mood of yours.
00:27:59Did I hear you singing when I came in?
00:28:01My new friend, Noelle. I feel like she really gets me.
00:28:05That's great. Maybe you should invite her over for dinner sometime.
00:28:09Dad, we just met. I don't want her to think I'm desperate.
00:28:13Right. Got it.
00:28:17Um, hey, Audrey wants to go to this Shakespeare thing tonight.
00:28:21Shakespeare? I want to go.
00:28:24You do? Okay, great. I'll, um, I'll let her know.
00:28:27Cool.
00:28:41Thanks for this, Audrey. This is nice.
00:28:43I've always found something romantic about Shakespeare's words, even if I don't always understand them.
00:28:51How about you, Grace? Have you studied Shakespeare?
00:28:54No, but I want to.
00:28:58Oh, I'm scared.
00:29:06Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
00:29:10Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
00:29:14Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
00:29:18And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
00:29:22But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
00:29:26Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
00:29:30Nor shall death brag thou wondrous in his shade,
00:29:35When in eternal lines time thou grow'st.
00:29:39So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
00:29:44So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
00:30:06Noel wet.
00:30:16Wait.
00:30:18Noel, I went to summits under the stars.
00:30:21There was a Noel wet reading Shakespeare.
00:30:23Is that you? I thought you were a kid.
00:30:26Or maybe it's somebody else. Confused.
00:30:29Let me know.
00:30:32Well, I imagine getting divorce papers, no matter how inevitable, is still a shock.
00:30:37It's just really sad.
00:30:39Sixteen years of marriage. Over.
00:30:42And it's been, what, two years now?
00:30:45But you were having issues before.
00:30:49You see, my experience is that these things either bring couples closer together or wedge them apart.
00:30:54Well, we definitely got the wedge.
00:30:57Right.
00:30:58There's something else that I'd really love to get your thoughts on.
00:31:01Yeah, of course.
00:31:19Hey, you're here again.
00:31:22Oh, hi.
00:31:24I've got a feeling you're still in town.
00:31:26I'm going by the way.
00:31:28Sure.
00:31:31Is this Grace?
00:31:33Oh, yeah.
00:31:35How are you feeling?
00:31:37Well, I got to go. I have to get the other one. It's still collecting.
00:31:41Okay. Thanks. Be great.
00:31:43No problem.
00:31:44I'll just be over there.
00:31:46Thanks.
00:31:54Did I go too far? She thought I was her age.
00:31:57Well, you never actually said that you were a kid, but you also didn't say that you weren't one.
00:32:02And you didn't tell her about Tony, either. I mean, this poor girl thinks that she's got two new best friends.
00:32:07One of them's an adult, and the other one's...
00:32:10Well, you know.
00:32:13What should I do?
00:32:15Send it.
00:32:17I know you have good intentions.
00:32:19But I don't think this is healthy for either of you.
00:32:24Send her a message.
00:32:26Be direct.
00:32:33Grace, I am so sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't mean to mislead you.
00:32:39I was also surprised and excited that you found the balloon.
00:32:43I don't want to leave you unanswered. And yes, I am the same Noelle from the other night.
00:32:48For a lot of reasons, I'm afraid it's probably best if we stop communicating.
00:32:53You are a very special young lady, and I wish you the best.
00:32:57I am confident that when you settle in here, you will make many great friends your own age.
00:33:03Best, Noelle.
00:33:08Hey, sweetness.
00:33:09Don't you have work today?
00:33:11Oh, so I have a little time.
00:33:14There's a standing flea market in town. I was telling Audrey about it. She wants to go.
00:33:18Do you want to come with us?
00:33:19No, thanks.
00:33:21It's going to be fun. You used to love flea markets.
00:33:24I used to love going to them because Mom loved the flea market.
00:33:28Yeah. Yeah, she did.
00:33:30She would always find such great little treasures, like that necklace.
00:33:35Are you trying to get Audrey to like everything Mom liked or something?
00:33:39I'm not talking about it like that. I just thought it would be something fun to do. Audrey's a friend.
00:33:42She definitely wants to be more than friends. And if you don't want more, you probably shouldn't lead her on.
00:33:48You think I'm leading her on?
00:33:50I don't know, Dad. She seems perfectly nice.
00:33:52But I can tell you're not interested in her, and we have to live next to her.
00:33:55The longer you take to break up with her, the more awkward it will be.
00:33:58Well, we don't have to break up because we're not together.
00:34:00Okay. Have fun at the flea market with your not-girlfriend.
00:34:03Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, hey.
00:34:06Ugh. Ugh.
00:34:09Never thought I'd be the guy getting dating advice from his daughter.
00:34:14Just so you know, this road goes both ways.
00:34:17So if, if you ever need advice with, yeah, with boys, of course, but with anything,
00:34:23I just, I want you to know that I am here for you.
00:34:27I'm good, Dad. Great talk. I'm going for a walk.
00:34:35Okay.
00:34:46Can I help you?
00:34:47It's me, Grace.
00:34:51Grace? What are you doing here?
00:34:54I wanted to meet Tony. I thought maybe she still needed a friend, like the balloon said.
00:34:58Is she home?
00:35:00Um, no. No, she's not.
00:35:03Well, come on in. Get warm. You must be freezing.
00:35:10Uh, well, could I get you some tea?
00:35:13Sure.
00:35:18I thought you were, like, my age this whole time. Tony's sister or something.
00:35:24Is that her?
00:35:27Yeah.
00:35:28So you're her mom?
00:35:30Yes. Look, I'm sorry that you thought I was a kid.
00:35:34As I said, I didn't mean to mislead you. Truth is, I kind of enjoyed our little messages.
00:35:39It was nice to talk to someone again.
00:35:42My mom died when I was seven. Breast cancer.
00:35:47My dad takes me to fundraisers for breast cancer, the walks and the special events.
00:35:54Helping others helps me feel close to her.
00:35:56He sounds like a good dad.
00:35:58He tries his best, but sometimes a girl just needs her mom.
00:36:07Um.
00:36:08Okay, well, would you like chamomile or green tea?
00:36:11Chamomile would be great.
00:36:12Okay.
00:36:14What made you change your mind about the flea market?
00:36:17You know, Grace reminded me that it was sort of her mom's favorite thing. I just, I didn't think it would be right.
00:36:23I understand.
00:36:26Good. Hey, look, Audrey, I wanted to talk to you.
00:36:29I feel like we...
00:36:32Jack, you don't need to say it.
00:36:36It's pretty obvious.
00:36:38It is? Okay.
00:36:40Well, thank you. It has nothing to do with you. I think you're a great person. I just, I'm in a different place right now.
00:36:47Jack.
00:36:49Thanks.
00:36:53Hey, Gracie!
00:36:55Hey.
00:37:14All right, here we go. Some nice hot tea. Careful, it's hot.
00:37:20Everything okay?
00:37:21Just my dad. He's coming to pick me up. He worries about me too much.
00:37:26That's what parents do. They worry.
00:37:29Tony looks like you.
00:37:31Oh.
00:37:33May I use the restroom?
00:37:35Sure. Yeah, it's just up the stairs.
00:37:51Hi.
00:38:19Grace?
00:38:21I'm so sorry. I was just curious.
00:38:23That's okay.
00:38:27That must be your dad.
00:38:35Wait, you're Grace's dad?
00:38:38Yeah.
00:38:40Um...
00:38:41I'm Noelle Webb.
00:38:45So, you're Noelle?
00:38:52Okay, so let me get this straight. So you two have been, you've been emailing back and forth, but you thought that she was a kid, but that was a big misunderstanding?
00:39:02I'm sorry for the confusion.
00:39:05Okay. Why do I feel like there's so much more to this story?
00:39:08Noelle is Tony's mom.
00:39:10Oh, okay. Got it. So, where is Tony?
00:39:15She's not here.
00:39:16She isn't? What, where is, where is she then? Why are you here? Why did you come?
00:39:21I didn't know she wasn't here until I got here.
00:39:23Okay, you left without telling me where you were going. You didn't call, you didn't text. And so I'm, I was, I was, like, I was worried.
00:39:30I just didn't think it was a big deal.
00:39:32You didn't think, come on, we always talked, like, Noelle, that would be a big deal if Tony did that, right?
00:39:37Right.
00:39:39I'm not just trying to be the bad guy all the time here, right? I mean, it's called being a parent, isn't that right, Noelle?
00:39:44Look, there's something that you should know.
00:39:45Okay, I get it, Dad. I'm sorry.
00:39:49Thank you. I'm sorry, Noelle. What, um, what did you want to say?
00:39:53You know what? Let's just talk about it another time.
00:39:56Right. Um, hey, if you and your family want to come over this week for dinner, that way we can, we can all get to know each other the proper way.
00:40:04And I'd love to meet your husband and your daughter as well.
00:40:06Well, we're not together anymore.
00:40:09Offer still stands. If you want to exchange numbers, we can, we can make plans.
00:40:14Sure, yeah, I'll be in touch.
00:40:16Great. Um, oh, I wanted to say, the, uh, the Shakespeare thingy you did the other day, that was, that was beautiful.
00:40:26And, uh, yeah, I thought you were the best one.
00:40:29You really were. Thank you.
00:40:31Yeah.
00:40:45You know I love you, right? I can't always relate to the struggles of a teenage girl, but I'm trying.
00:41:07I know, Dad.
00:41:09You should know, I talked to Audrey.
00:41:13You broke up with her?
00:41:15She, um, she sort of broke up with herself. It was, it was weird.
00:41:22But, um, we never made it to the flea market, so maybe you and I could go together sometime.
00:41:31Sure, I'd love to.
00:41:34Okay, me too.
00:41:35Alright, enjoy that. I'm gonna get ready for bed, okay?
00:41:38Night, sweetness.
00:41:40Good night, Dad.
00:41:49Noah, sorry for tonight. I hope Tony and I can still be friends when she gets back.
00:42:06How was your tournament?
00:42:08We got second.
00:42:09That's too bad. Out of like 30 schools.
00:42:15Mr. Brown, I'd like to request a new lab partner, please.
00:42:20Sorry, in the real world you can't always choose who you work with, so neither can you.
00:42:29Yeah, I'll be over in one sec.
00:42:31How's it going, Jack?
00:42:32Jack?
00:42:33I just want to give you a heads up. There's a good chance we're gonna lose our funding.
00:42:38The new governor is tightening the purse strings.
00:42:40What does that mean for me and my guys?
00:42:42No funding, no building.
00:42:44We have a two year contract. I moved here for this job.
00:42:47I know. That's why I'm giving you the heads up.
00:42:49We should know more by the end of the month, but I'm just sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
00:42:56You can order food if you want.
00:42:58No, I'm just reading the menu. The hamlet omelet, the macbeth and cheese.
00:43:03Your town really likes...
00:43:17You know, those jeans again.
00:43:24town really likes really like Shakespeare. Yeah my favorite one is the Julius Caesar salad.
00:43:33Hey um you and I both work for the same institution. I'm foreman for the construction
00:43:39project on campus. At the science center? Is that still happening? I'm still waiting
00:43:44on final approval. I wish I had a nickel for every time they told me one more day.
00:43:49So your daughter sent me an email telling me that she still wanted to be friends with Tony
00:43:54when she got back. It's probably my fault. So I've been worried about her and
00:44:03so I'm I'm a single dad and she is my entire world. Um even if she often wants nothing to do with me
00:44:12um so yes it's fine with me if Grace is friends with Tony when she gets back.
00:44:20Jack
00:44:27the thing is Tony isn't coming back.
00:44:33What do you mean? Tony died a little under two years ago and in that final spring with her we
00:44:43tied a note to a balloon a cupcake balloon that ended up in your tree.
00:44:50And in that note Tony was asking for a best friend. Grace found that balloon and saw the note.
00:44:58Yeah and she left the balloon and letter on my porch that day that we almost ran into each other
00:45:05again. Oh yes. Grace wanted a real friend so badly just like my Aunt Tony did. And so you
00:45:15you wrote back pretending to be Tony. No no I wrote back as Noelle but your daughter assumed
00:45:21that I was Tony's sister. Oh I hope that you understand that when I read that letter
00:45:29it was like my daughter reaching out to me. Grace is the same age that Tony was when she
00:45:34passed and I just I couldn't bring myself to tell her that Tony wasn't with us anymore.
00:45:42I didn't know how she would take it.
00:45:47I think you did the right thing.
00:45:50So ever since Grace's mom died she doesn't handle loss or change very well.
00:45:57I so I think it would be best if we told her together as soon as possible. I agree.
00:46:08That gives me an idea. Will you and Grace meet me later today? Sure. Cool.
00:46:17Hey do you think it's strange that you and I bumped into each other twice in the same week?
00:46:25I don't think anything is strange anymore.
00:46:37What are we doing here? Well I thought this would be the best place to share my story.
00:46:50Two years ago I came here with my daughter Antonia to start off the first day of spring.
00:46:56Tony made two wishes and she dropped them in this wishing well and with one nickel she made
00:47:02the wish that her father and I would get along better. Now the funny thing about wishes is
00:47:08sometimes they do come true just not in the way that you think they will. Her father and I are
00:47:14better now. We found a peace and respect a part that we we didn't have when we were together.
00:47:21What was Tony's other wish? To find a new best friend.
00:47:35After making the wish Tony got a cupcake balloon and she attached a note to it and she released it
00:47:40into the sky. It was beautiful but there's more to the story. Shortly after that day Antonia got sick.
00:47:51And she passed away.
00:47:54I don't understand. It all happened so quickly.
00:48:02She's not with us anymore sweetie.
00:48:08What? However a part of Tony was still clinging to that tree in your yard
00:48:15waiting for the stars to align so that one day you would come along and you would find her.
00:48:21And you did. You did find her and you found me.
00:48:28I thought this whole time it was my mom who's doing all this.
00:48:36It seems to me that your mom and Tony are in cahoots on this one.
00:48:42Listen Grace there's something I've been trying to do for a very long time.
00:48:47Can I get your help?
00:48:51I've been wanting to pack up Tony's clothes and things but I haven't been able to do it.
00:49:00If you want to keep any of it you can. Really? Take your time.
00:49:51So would you like something to drink? Water, coffee, beer, wine?
00:50:06Is it too early for wine? I think it's exactly wine o'clock. Chardonnay?
00:50:11No no it's Jack but you can call me Chardonnay if it makes you feel better.
00:50:16You are much jerkier than I thought but you made me snort a little
00:50:21and I haven't snorted for a very long time. You know Antonia and I had a running tally on who
00:50:28could make the other one snort the worst. Yeah who was ahead? Oh I was. She just loved to laugh
00:50:35and I knew what would make her snort. That's really sweet. These days I've been getting the
00:50:42groan from Grace. Oh dad she's so cool now. She's too cool for my
00:50:51corny dad jokes. To snorts and groans. To snorts and groans.
00:51:05Yeah I can't bear to take down any of the photos with Antonia in them. Yeah I hear you.
00:51:11It sounds really hard. And uh it's not about missing my ex. It's just missing being together.
00:51:22Now I'm just a professor and a divorcee and I loved being a mom. I loved having a family.
00:51:32I uh I guess I I kind of felt that too. I miss I miss my wife. I miss being a husband.
00:51:42Now I'm a widower. I'm a a single dad. It's like it's it's these terms that just make people feel
00:51:51sorry for you. It's the little things that I miss. Tony used to come up to me when I was online at
00:51:58the grocery store and she would just grab onto my leg. I miss her holding on to me.
00:52:04We're a couple sad saps huh? Yes just sad saps.
00:52:14Okay tell me something good. When do you feel closest to Grace? We played basketball the other
00:52:21day and that was the first time in a long time where we just just had fun together. Oh that
00:52:30sounds nice. No it was nice. It brought back a lot of good memories.
00:52:36I miss I miss when she was little and I would just scoop her up and I'd spin her around until she
00:52:44belly laughed. I miss god I miss when she would run into my room during a storm.
00:52:52Little pitter patter of her feet coming down the hallway.
00:52:55And your turn. Well when's the last time you had fun?
00:53:03Today. Tonight. Just having the two of you here my house doesn't feel quite so empty.
00:53:13What are you doing Friday? You should come over for dinner. Friday night is goulash night.
00:53:20Goulash? I don't know if I've ever had goulash. No but then you have to come.
00:53:27Grace says it's one of the four foods that I actually know how to make.
00:53:30Really? What are the other three? Oh you're gonna have to find that out. But seriously you should
00:53:36come. Sure I mean how can I say no to your famous goulash? Right it's such a fun word to say isn't
00:53:43it? Goulash. I guess so. I think that's why I make it because it's three days. It's a fun word.
00:53:50Yeah.
00:54:21Hi Mr. Brown. Gary. Hi Gary. Jack McCabe. Hey thanks for coming in. Yeah of course. I um
00:54:30I really I really want to figure out how to support Grace. I know she's struggling and I
00:54:34think the stress from the move along with teen stuff changing hormones all that. It's a lot.
00:54:41Yeah. Grace is extremely gifted. She may be intellectually understimulated and letting the
00:54:46social aspects of school distract her. Okay. How are things at home? It's been hectic lately. She
00:54:52found this balloon and this note in the tree when we were playing basketball and that's turned into
00:54:57this whole thing. Grace plays basketball? Yeah yeah she's pretty good actually. Well I mean look
00:55:02she's not the most athletic kid in the world but she's got heart. Did you know I coached the
00:55:05freshman girls basketball team? I did not know that. It just so happens that we're down the
00:55:09guard. We could use another player. I mean she'd have to do a little tryout. Okay I think she'd
00:55:14like that. It might help to incentivize Grace. All our student athletes are required to maintain
00:55:19a C plus average. Right now she's hovering at a C. If she agrees to do the science fair I can
00:55:26give her extra credit help boost her grade and we can discuss next steps. Okay yeah I mean that
00:55:31sounds great. Thank you. No problem. You guys really surprised me. I am so proud of all the effort
00:55:38and thought that you put into these essays. So for next class I want you to write your own sonnets
00:55:45about your own lives in your own voices. See you Monday. Good job.
00:55:55They seem more engaged. You want to get a cup of coffee?
00:55:58I can't. Brian's coming over for the divorce papers. Oh so you signed them. No
00:56:05but I'm ready to.
00:56:17Hey Grace. Hi Owen. You going to the cafe today? I have something I want to show you.
00:56:24Yeah I'll be there.
00:56:29Did that just happen? Owen barely talks to any girls.
00:56:32He talks to me. Unbelievable. Wait till Liv hears about this.
00:56:49To be honest I wasn't sure you were going to sign these. Signing these doesn't change what we had.
00:56:54We made a beautiful girl whose star just burned out too soon. I will always be so grateful to you for giving me time.
00:57:10Looks like you're starting to move on. No I'm just trying to let go of the grief
00:57:16and find some kind of joy in the memory of her. I just wish there was a way I could hold on somehow.
00:57:25I have something for you that I think might help.
00:57:38Oh thanks Noelle. Yeah. I am not looking forward to Sunday.
00:57:53Hard to believe it's been two years. Are you going to do anything? To celebrate the worst day of my life?
00:58:01No. You? I was going to go up to the cabin. She left it there but I gotta be in Portland
00:58:08and Seattle for work. Feel free to use it if you want. I don't know maybe. Thanks. Take care of yourself.
00:58:25Hey Grace. Where'd you get that jacket? From Tony's mom. You knew Tony didn't you?
00:58:35You liked her?
00:58:40I did.
00:58:43I think she would have wanted you to have this. It was in her jacket pocket.
00:58:51She liked you too.
00:59:00Here I'll make you hot chocolate.
00:59:05Noelle come on in. Welcome welcome. Smells wonderful. All right.
00:59:24Hey. Hi. Dad stop being so awkward. I don't know what she's talking about. Anyway welcome to dinner
00:59:33at the McCabe's. Thank you. It's nice to see you again Chardonnay. No it's Jack but I love the
00:59:39comedy callback. I'm impressed. Wait a minute. Are you impressed or are you Jack? Am I supposed to
00:59:45find these jokes funny when I'm older? Hopefully. Hey would you mind taking Noelle's coat for her please?
00:59:52Milady. Oh thank you. Would you like to open this right now? It looks delicious. Sure. All right.
01:00:00How can I help? Just make yourself at home. Sit down. Get comfortable.
01:00:05Get yourself ready for a delicious feast. What actually is goulash? I'm glad you asked.
01:00:11Goulash is a traditional Hungarian meal. Dates back to the early 9th century.
01:00:17Don't let it make you impressed. I saw him google out earlier.
01:00:21What you're gonna tell her all my secrets?
01:00:23It's a fun fact. Do you know why the Hungarians first made goulash? No. Why? Because they were hungry.
01:00:33Oh wow. That was so obvious.
01:00:38You're obvious. All right let's see. Looks good. Here. Taste it.
01:00:53It's delicious. You get my seal of approval. All right. That's it. We're ready to go.
01:01:04Well you might have to open up your own goulash restaurant. Really? Thank you.
01:01:08What would I call it? Jack's goulash garage? No no no. Grace's goulash garage alliteration.
01:01:16Oh the hungry Hungarian. That's a really good idea. You're not gonna do that are you? It's good right?
01:01:21If you don't mind, I'm going to excuse myself. I have a ton of homework to do.
01:01:27Are you serious? It's Friday. I've never seen you do homework on a Friday. Well if I'm going to try
01:01:32and make the basketball team, I need to get my grades in order. Okay. Night sweetness. Good night.
01:01:51Thank you for this. I don't even know what this is but it's
01:02:10it's nice. It's safe.
01:02:16You had a really wonderful night Jack. Me too.
01:02:51Thanks for coming in Grace. Hey check this out. If either of you can score with my girl Grace
01:02:57here guarding you, I'll give you 40 bucks. Dead serious.
01:03:21Yeah Grace! Defenseman's championships.
01:03:28Okay. You can come in for practice on Monday Grace, but you need to get your grades up if
01:03:33you want to play in games. Hope you come up with a good subject for the science fair.
01:03:39Okay everybody, let's welcome your new teammate Grace.
01:03:51Hey Jerry. Yeah.
01:03:59Yeah I'll meet with him. Sure yeah can't hurt. Thanks for setting that up.
01:04:06Oh no she didn't. My girl! I'm so proud of you. Can I call Noel? I want to tell her the news. Yeah.
01:04:14Hello? Guess what? Hey. What? I made the team. You did? Congratulations. I knew you would. We'll
01:04:22have to celebrate. For sure. Thanks. Here's my dad. Hi. Hi. Hey are you around right now? I gotta
01:04:30ask you something. Uh how about I meet you at King Lear Bistro? Okay I'll see you soon. Great.
01:04:37Do you want to come with me right now? No thanks. I'm sweaty and I should probably shower. I might
01:04:42drop by the bookstore if that's okay. Yeah sure. You going alone? I made friends with a boy who
01:04:46works there. I'm sorry what? It's not like that. He's nice. Okay I guess it's all right. Um just
01:04:55stay for an hour all right? Be careful. Okay. All right. Hey proud of you.
01:05:00Hey. Hi. Oh I got your coffee. Oh thank you.
01:05:09Everything okay? You seem stressed. I got a job opportunity in Portland. It starts on Monday
01:05:16and the guy wants to meet me tonight. Oh aren't there any jobs that are closer? It's a backup
01:05:22plan. I can't go too long without work. I spend a fortune moving stuff here. What about Grace?
01:05:30That's what I wanted to ask you about. So um is there any way you could watch Grace for me
01:05:36until I get back? Well I'm going to our cabin tonight. Tomorrow is the two-year anniversary
01:05:41of Tony's passing. She loved it up there. Oh that's great. I'm going to meet you at the
01:05:47tonight. Tomorrow is the two-year anniversary of Tony's passing. She loved it up there.
01:05:52Oh my goodness. Right right right right right. I'm sorry. No no it's fine. No no it just I
01:05:57needed to do this. I have to tackle my grief head-on. You know? Yeah. Good for you.
01:06:06But you know I could take Grace with me. It's just that I'd be staying overnight.
01:06:10I could that I no I couldn't. That's wouldn't that be weird if you had Grace with you?
01:06:18No no actually I think having Grace there would ground me.
01:06:25You're wonderful. Thank you. You're welcome.
01:06:29So uh I have to go up to Portland today for work but I talked to Noelle. She wants to take you to
01:06:35their cabin to spend the night if you want to go. Yeah that would be awesome. Yeah? Okay um she's
01:06:41gonna pick you up at two. Pack a bag. Bring your homework. Make sure your phone's charged. Okay?
01:06:45I will. I will. All right. I love you. Bye. Bye.
01:06:50Hi. Hello.
01:06:56Thanks for coming. I'd like to think I'll handle this weekend like a champion.
01:07:03I love you too.
01:07:04Hi.
01:07:05Hello.
01:07:06Thanks for coming.
01:07:07I'd like to think I'll handle this weekend like a champion, but if I don't, I apologize
01:07:21ahead of time.
01:07:22You'll be okay.
01:07:23I feel like all of this is happening for a reason.
01:07:27Do you believe in coincidences?
01:07:29That they're random?
01:07:30Or do you think everything has a reason?
01:07:33I don't know.
01:07:34Both, maybe?
01:07:36Some things seem too perfect to be random, and others seem perfect because they're random.
01:07:41What do you think?
01:07:43Well, my mom used to tell me that when coincidences happen that you couldn't explain, it was the
01:07:48angels playing with you.
01:07:51Maybe.
01:07:52There are more things on heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
01:07:59That's Hamlet, by the way.
01:08:00Okay.
01:08:01Come on.
01:08:02Sorry to keep you waiting.
01:08:17Hi.
01:08:22Jack McCabe.
01:08:23Brian Webb.
01:08:24Nice to meet you.
01:08:25Nice to meet you.
01:08:26There.
01:08:27We're here.
01:08:28Wow.
01:08:29It's like a postcard.
01:08:30Sorry about the snow, I forgot it takes longer to warm up here in the mountains.
01:08:31I should have warned you.
01:08:46No.
01:08:56I like it.
01:08:57No wonder Tony loved it here.
01:09:01Come on in.
01:09:13She looks so happy.
01:09:14It's one of my favorites.
01:09:15She was a literal tree hugger.
01:09:18You know, I often try to imagine
01:09:20what she would look like now at almost 16.
01:09:23What activities she would like,
01:09:25would she like the same food?
01:09:27Would she have a crush?
01:09:29Did you know that Owen Peters
01:09:30asked her to the winter formal?
01:09:32She wanted to say yes,
01:09:33but she didn't get the chance to tell him.
01:09:36She must have really liked him.
01:09:38I am so happy that she had a chance to feel these feelings.
01:09:41I wish she would have told me.
01:09:43She could have told me anything.
01:09:46Teenagers, it's kind of complicated.
01:09:50Sometimes I find myself saying the opposite
01:09:53of what I really mean to my dad.
01:09:55Like I want somebody to blame for what happened to my mom.
01:10:01And he's the closest one.
01:10:03I know it's hard on him and he needs me.
01:10:06And you need him.
01:10:08Your mother will always be a part of you
01:10:10and I am sure that she would want nothing more
01:10:14than for you to be happy.
01:10:19Is it okay if I ask my dad to join us after his meeting?
01:10:23He would love it here.
01:10:26Of course, sweetie, of course.
01:10:28Okay.
01:10:30Let's see what kind of things we have.
01:10:32What?
01:10:37Why, everything okay?
01:10:54Hey there.
01:10:55How's the meeting in Portland go?
01:10:56They make you an offer?
01:10:57It went well.
01:10:58They need an answer by tomorrow.
01:10:59Well, I got some news
01:11:00that might make your decision easier.
01:11:02Our contract's been officially terminated.
01:11:03No more funding.
01:11:05You should take that job in Portland.
01:11:07There's gotta be some other jobs in the area.
01:11:08Medford, Eugene?
01:11:11Probably not till the summer.
01:11:13Works hard to come by right now.
01:11:15Portland's a great city.
01:11:19Grace is not gonna like this.
01:11:22All right.
01:11:48Really?
01:11:50Now you're just messing with me?
01:11:54Yeah.
01:12:09What do you mean new?
01:12:10What about your current job?
01:12:12So there is no current job.
01:12:13They shelved the project
01:12:15and they terminated the contract.
01:12:16But the good news is that I got a new job
01:12:18at a great company in Portland.
01:12:19You already accepted it?
01:12:21I had.
01:12:22I had to let them know right away
01:12:23or else I would have lost them.
01:12:24So it starts on Monday.
01:12:28Hey.
01:12:29What's going on?
01:12:30What's going on is my dad wants to ruin my life.
01:12:33Grace, come on.
01:12:34I wanna talk to you about this.
01:12:35I don't wanna talk about it
01:12:36and I don't wanna move to Portland.
01:12:41Look, I know this is hard for you
01:12:43and I'm sorry, but I'm out of options here.
01:12:46What about basketball?
01:12:48There's basketball in Portland.
01:12:50I'm going to bed.
01:12:51I'm sorry, Noel.
01:12:52I'll see you in the morning.
01:12:54Okay.
01:12:59So you got the job.
01:13:03I see.
01:13:23Hi.
01:13:24Hey.
01:13:26Good.
01:13:28Please.
01:13:44Was I wrong for taking that job?
01:13:48I don't know.
01:13:50It might've been good for you to talk to her about it
01:13:53before you made the decision.
01:13:53Maybe that's why she was hurt.
01:13:56You know, to be honest,
01:13:57I don't feel too good about you two leaving either.
01:14:05What if Grace stays in Ashland with me?
01:14:10Till the end of school term.
01:14:19Grace is my daughter.
01:14:22She comes with me no matter what.
01:14:26Night, Noel.
01:14:28Jack.
01:15:23Hi.
01:15:24I'm not sure what I made here,
01:15:25but I don't think it's coffee.
01:15:27Industrial waste, maybe.
01:15:31Looked like you needed that.
01:15:32I did.
01:15:34Did you sleep at all?
01:15:36A little.
01:15:38Good.
01:15:40Sorry I got defensive last night.
01:15:43The thought of living anywhere without Grace,
01:15:47she's all I have.
01:15:48I would never leave her,
01:15:51no matter how teenager-y she gets.
01:15:53You know, I'm the one that owes you an apology.
01:15:56I was out of line even offering.
01:15:57No, no, no, no.
01:15:58You weren't, you weren't.
01:15:59You were being kind.
01:16:01How are you feeling today?
01:16:03Better than I thought I would be.
01:16:07Having you and Grace here is comforting.
01:16:10Good.
01:16:13For the longest time, whenever I pictured Tony,
01:16:16it was in our final moments.
01:16:21But seeing Grace here,
01:16:23it made me think of all the good times.
01:16:26And there were so many, many good times.
01:16:30In the summer, she would climb that tree,
01:16:33and jump off the dock,
01:16:35catch fireflies.
01:16:37And in the winter, we'd go sledding,
01:16:39and we'd go and play card games.
01:16:45She filled this place with so much joy.
01:16:51It's beautiful.
01:16:53It's just beautiful memories.
01:16:59I don't want to mourn her.
01:17:03I want to celebrate her.
01:17:04Yes.
01:17:06Yeah, I love that.
01:17:08Okay, what would Tony want to do
01:17:11if she were here right now?
01:17:14She would want pancakes.
01:17:16Pancakes?
01:17:17Yes.
01:17:17Pancakes happen to be one of the four foods
01:17:19that I make very well.
01:17:22Really?
01:17:23We're doing this.
01:17:24What do you say?
01:17:25Let's do this.
01:17:26Yeah?
01:17:27Yeah.
01:17:28Let's do it.
01:17:37Energy cannot be destroyed.
01:17:44Hey, how did you get them so fluffy?
01:17:47Wouldn't you like to know?
01:17:49I figured out my topic for the science fair project.
01:17:52Our body is made out of bones and flesh,
01:17:54but we're also made out of energy, right?
01:17:57Right.
01:17:58Energy can't be destroyed.
01:17:59It just changes form.
01:18:01That's what Einstein said.
01:18:02So my mom and Tony, they still exist.
01:18:05I want to do an energy conversion project to honor them.
01:18:09That's beautiful.
01:18:11I like it.
01:18:12Hey, I'm sorry about last night.
01:18:15I should have talked to you first before I did anything.
01:18:18I should have been honest with you about what was going on.
01:18:21You're not a little girl anymore.
01:18:23I know.
01:18:24That's what I've been trying to tell you.
01:18:27Okay, I want to talk with you more about it,
01:18:29but I've got the hand cake that's burning over here
01:18:31and Noelle's going to tell us about the agenda for today.
01:18:34We have an agenda?
01:18:35Yes.
01:18:36We've decided to have a Tony fun day today.
01:18:38If that's all right with you.
01:18:40Sign me up.
01:18:41Great.
01:18:43So when Tony was little, she had this challenge.
01:18:46She'd stand up here and she'd try to get the bubbles to float
01:18:49all the way across the pond.
01:18:50And then sometimes we would come out here together
01:18:53and we would see whose bubbles went the furthest.
01:18:55I used to love bubbles.
01:18:56Can I try?
01:18:57Yeah, of course.
01:18:58Here.
01:19:07Okay, you two, quick bubble notes here.
01:19:09What, Mr. Expert?
01:19:10So if you just a little extra flick,
01:19:14a little extra flick as you're going forward
01:19:17and you exponentially increased your bubble.
01:19:20My dad's one of those guys
01:19:21who's annoyingly good at random things.
01:19:23Like blowing bubbles.
01:19:25And flipping pancakes.
01:19:26Annoying, she already said annoyingly.
01:19:29Yeah.
01:19:29Good at things.
01:19:30So those are your two things.
01:19:31It was a good day for me.
01:19:32It was a good day.
01:19:33Hello.
01:19:35Brian.
01:19:37I'll be right back.
01:19:38I'll be right back.
01:19:43Jack.
01:19:44Brian Webb.
01:19:45Of course, that's why you look familiar.
01:19:48From the photos in Noelle's house.
01:19:52Wait, you two know each other?
01:19:53Brian hired me for the job in Portland.
01:19:56Oh.
01:19:56Yeah.
01:19:57So what are you doing here, Jack?
01:19:59So I'm here.
01:20:01I'm here because of my daughter, Grace.
01:20:03And it's a whole long story.
01:20:09I thought you were gonna be out of town.
01:20:11How was Seattle?
01:20:12I canceled it.
01:20:15I wanted to come see if you were okay.
01:20:18Here, let's give them a little alone time.
01:20:23I just can't stop thinking about her.
01:20:27You're such a good dad.
01:20:32I'm glad you're finding your way through this.
01:20:34I wish I was there, but I'm not.
01:20:36I feel like I lost my purpose.
01:20:41Thanks, Dad.
01:20:45Help others.
01:20:46What?
01:20:48I think I know how this is supposed to go now.
01:20:51You and Jack are supposed to work together,
01:20:53just not the where and how that you sought.
01:20:55What are you talking about?
01:20:59Hey, come on over, guys.
01:21:02What do you think they're talking about?
01:21:04I don't know, but I think we're gonna find out.
01:21:06Yeah.
01:21:21Brian and I are thrilled to be here today,
01:21:23along with our project manager, Jack McCabe,
01:21:26his daughter, Grace, and all of you.
01:21:29We are here in honor of our late daughter, Antonia,
01:21:32to break ground on our brand new cutting edge facility
01:21:35that will save the lives of countless children
01:21:38and help to assist their families.
01:21:40So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
