00:00So, uh, Eric Hasseltine's the greatest ever.
00:03He's the voice of the Grizzlies.
00:04This guy, I mean, honestly, dude, I go to my front door one day and this box from you
00:14and Ja and these puppies, I need to tell you, listen, these are the coolest shoes I have ever
00:21seen in my life.
00:22They're so effing nice.
00:24I won't even wear them yet.
00:26I got to wait.
00:27I need like six months to a year to put them on because I don't want to ruin them.
00:33Like I have never seen shoes cooler, you know, to my daughter, you know, inspire the doubters,
00:40the process, the followers, the, I mean, it goes to everyone who is and will be with me.
00:46Uh, since day one on the bottom of the shoe, this is so bad-ass.
00:50Now I had the ones I told you that, and then I told you how much I loved them and how much
00:55of a fan I am of yours and his, and that he's like one of my favorite players in the
01:00entire league.
01:00And I'm a huge, gigantic fan of his.
01:03And then I get this box with just nothing on it, just said Ja.
01:08And I almost had a stroke when these came to my house.
01:13They are so nice.
01:14Honestly, I want to make love to them.
01:15I mean, honestly, Eric, honestly, you're the coolest dude ever.
01:20You're the coolest dude ever.
01:22That's the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me ever in my life.
01:25Well, I think the message on the box from the post office said it get buckets, man,
01:30get buckets.
01:30I wear the other ones all the time.
01:34I wear them.
01:35I wear them in the street.
01:37I wear them to the gym.
01:38I still wear them to, uh, to shoot hoops on days.
01:41I don't play.
01:42I wear them in the gym to shoot.
01:44I always shoot no matter what for like a mile and I'll wear them no matter what.
01:48I just love them.
01:49I have the ones now I got the twos.
01:51I literally, when I got them, I ran around my house naked.
01:56Well, at least you didn't pee on the floor.
01:58Like the guy at the brewers.
01:58I did.
01:59That was a good thing.
02:00I'm glad your wife didn't let you do that.
02:02So I didn't know.
02:03I gotta give.
02:04I gotta give credit to our equipment guy, uh, Corey McCain.
02:06When I told him you said that, uh, I said, let's hook them up.
02:09He said, we got them.
02:10So it wasn't just me.
02:11There were, there was more in the process, but yeah, Corey's a Corey's the best and
02:15treats us well.
02:16And I'm glad you like him, brother, because we appreciate, uh, the, the support and,
02:20and, you know, I appreciate our friendship.
02:22So it's the least I can do.
02:23Listen, thank you.
02:24A million times over.
02:25It's just, it's just a incredible dude and an incredible friend and incredible guy.
02:30And it was just such a nice thing to do.
02:32I hope you got my messages and, and tweets and texts.
02:35And I didn't know what to do.
02:37Like, it was just such an overwhelming thing for me.
02:39I never thought it would like happen.
02:42I just was joking.
02:43Next thing you know, you did it.
02:44And I just thought it was really cool.
02:46And let me ask you now, not let's talk about more serious matters.
02:49They've been unraveling like a spleef.
02:53Honestly, they've lost six of seven.
02:55They they're playing the night against the team that's playing good ball.
02:59You got your hands full.
03:00What has happened?
03:01They fired the coach.
03:03What is happening off Beale street?
03:06Well, you know, they, they went into the break 36 and 18.
03:09They were right at the top of the West, obviously behind Oklahoma city, who everybody's looking
03:13up at, but came out and did not, has not played particularly well since, especially
03:19on the defensive end of the floor, too many 35, 36, 40 point quarters and giving up big
03:26runs that you don't have answers for.
03:29It was just, there was just a lot of disconnected play on the court.
03:33At times, the defense has been struggling with over-committing to help from the wings,
03:39giving up an extra pass for wide open threes and trying to figure things out.
03:43And, you know, sometimes he's, as we know, things happen in pro sports and teams hit
03:47ruts.
03:47And this is one of those times for this team.
03:49And it's been really something that's uncommon to this group.
03:53I think you'd take last year and throw it out because of the injuries, because the guys
03:57that were out and you were playing with essentially, you know, 47 different players.
04:01We were handing out, hello, my name is tags when we got on road trips, because there was
04:05always three or four new guys on 10 day contracts.
04:07So, um, you know, but the years they were healthy, they were a playoff team.
04:12And so this, this type of struggle was very new to them.
04:16And it just seemed like there was just too many times that they weren't on the same page.
04:21And at some point, the front office has to make the decision.
04:24Is this going to continue?
04:25Are we going to ride this out?
04:26Or is it time to make a change?
04:27It's a very unprecedented time to make a change this late in the season, but they have a guy
04:32in the background that maybe they want to take a look at before the off season and decide
04:36whether he's their next guy or not.
04:38You know, I can't answer that because again, I always go to the AMPG above my pay grade.
04:43And that's what those guys get paid to do.
04:45And they have to live with the decisions.
04:47But, you know, there's a lot of criticism for moves that were made at the deadline where
04:51they didn't get this or didn't get that.
04:53The bottom line is the five guys on the floor, when they don't look like they're playing
04:57for the guy next to them, that's a problem.
05:00And jaw was in and out of the lineup.
05:02And so, um, you know, I just think that there was a lot of things that were weighing down
05:06this team and they just felt like it was time to press a button or two to see if they
05:09could spark, you know, some late, you know, cohesion to go into the playoffs.
05:14If not, if you go into the playoffs like this, it's going to be a problem.
05:16I mean, Scotty, they didn't win a game in the state of California, every road game,
05:20Clippers, Lakers, Kings, Warriors, they didn't win there.
05:23They haven't beaten the thunder.
05:24They beat the Boston Celtics once.
05:26And in my opinion on that night, they played well, but Boston was 18 of 60 from three.
05:31I mean, they shot 30%.
05:32If they make their normal percentage, they win that game.
05:35So they've got to get better defensively.
05:37That's something they always hung their hat on, but it just hasn't been there as,
05:40as cleanly this year as it has in years.
05:42Paul, what about, so they, they got whack last night and I mean, I thought job played well,
05:48we've seen pain snap on his teammate, Aldama and Aldama played well last night.
05:52I thought off at a bench, but I don't think that's Bain's issue with him.
05:56Now, tonight you got the doves in and they're a problem too.
05:59Yeah.
06:00They're playing great basketball.
06:02Since the Butler trade 18 and five have guys that do things that give the Grizzlies problems.
06:07And it's going to be interesting to see what the Warriors come out and do defensively.
06:13I would imagine because everybody's doing it now, since the offense has been circulated
06:18through a couple of match-ups, there's a lot of three, two shelf zone, take away the wing
06:24and top arc three recover to the corners and say, all right, if you're going to flash the
06:28middle with a, you know, a baseline cut or a diagonal cut from the corner, then go for it
06:33and beat us that way.
06:35But they're not going to let Luke can argue open looks.
06:37Cause he's too good a shooter.
06:38Desmond Bain, same type thing.
06:40They're coming over every screen and just taking away that space.
06:43The Warriors will be uber aggressive.
06:44They're playing terrific.
06:45They hung a big number on San Antonio.
06:47Steph is back in the lineup.
06:49And listen, these two teams don't have a lot of love loss for each other.
06:52They played in the playoffs.
06:53Draymond Green has said things about this team and he was very complimentary as much
06:58as people may hate Draymond Green's antics on the court.
07:01I will always give the guy this.
07:02He is a basketball, you know, savant.
07:05He learns the game.
07:06He teaches the game.
07:07They're blowing out San Antonio.
07:08He's pulling guys in there that are off the bench, getting minutes.
07:11Hold that thought, Eric.
07:12Don't go anywhere.
07:13I still want to talk to you for a couple more minutes about this.
07:15Don't go anywhere.
07:16We got my boy, Eric Hasseltine on from the Grizzlies.
07:20And he's getting ready to call that dubs Grizzlies game tonight at the FedEx.
07:24I have to tell you, I'm concerned about my Grizzlies because
07:28you know, they're in a really dicey spot right about now in that five with two teams
07:36hovering a game back that are about to pounce on their ass.
07:41And I can just the way they've been playing.
07:44It smells to me like they'll be lucky.
07:46I think they'll play in game at worst, but I think they'd be real lucky if they hold
07:51on to the five or six because I think it's slipping through their fingers.
07:54Am I tripping?
07:56No, you're not.
07:57They got to be better defensively.
07:58And tonight's not an easy challenge.
08:00They give up a lot of open threes.
08:02And if Steph Curry gets open threes, it's going to be a long night on the defensive
08:06end.
08:06So hopefully they can find that cohesion that they've had at times.
08:10But you know, they've done the right things when good teams do beat the bad teams, but
08:14they have not been as competitive against the higher end teams as people would like
08:19by any stretch of the imagination.
08:21So they got to go later in the week to the Kaseya, which is nice for you.
08:29You don't think I'm looking forward to that flight tomorrow, brother?
08:31You know, I am.
08:32I know you are.
08:33But then that's a tough game in Detroit.
08:37I think that team is legit.
08:40I think they'll lose in the playoffs, but I think they've had a hell of a turnaround.
08:45And then you go to the spectrum in Charlotte, which I think you guys can handle.
08:50We were talking about it earlier.
08:52What do you think if that team got their hands on Cooper Flag?
08:55What would happen to that franchise in Charlotte?
08:57Because they're in one of those three spots with the most ping pong balls.
09:01You got these three road games.
09:03None of them are going to be easy.
09:04I think Charlotte might be the one that you can get done for sure.
09:08You got to get at least one, if not two.
09:11And you're right.
09:12Detroit's had a massive turnaround.
09:14I'm a big fan of J.B. Bickerstaff.
09:15He was here with us for a while.
09:17Love the guy.
09:17Super happy for him.
09:19Just go ahead and look at that last three games for the Grizzlies there, my friend,
09:22because it's an 830 tip at home against Minnesota.
09:27Just a quick little puddle jump over to Denver, which if you've been to the airport,
09:31it's not near downtown.
09:33So, you know, 4 a.m. arrival.
09:35And Denver's not playing Thursday night.
09:37So the Grizzlies catch them second night of a back-to-back.
09:39Long night of travel.
09:40Denver's rested.
09:41Then you got to turn around and come back home Saturday and have an afternoon game with
09:45Dallas, who may be fighting for that playing spot.
09:47So when the schedule came out, I said, if you're not locked into something by those
09:51last three games, you know, bless your hearts, boys, but you're going to have to fight and
09:54it's going to be tough.
09:55So I think there's a lot of pressure on tonight.
09:57I think there's a lot of pressure on the Miami game.
10:00You let it all roll against Detroit and go compete and see what happens.
10:03They're good at home.
10:04You got to beat Charlotte because they don't have lamella ball.
10:06They're out of the playoff picture.
10:08And then you better get one of the ones against Denver or Minnesota.
10:11If you want to hang on to a top six spot, in my opinion.
10:13Now, if they don't, is it the end of the world?
10:16No, but there's going to be a lot of questions.
10:18You still have two chances to get into a playoff series.
10:21But, you know, worst case scenario, you lose the 7-8 game.
10:24If you're in the play-in, you win the next game.
10:27And oh, yeah, you get to draw Oklahoma City, who has beaten that.
10:30So it's a tough road, no doubt.
10:33So when, I just want to ask you, like when Bain and he got into it,
10:39and then when it was over and it had blown over,
10:43what was the fallout in the room and moving forward?
10:48Because this other dude is like, listen, bro, you know, mind your own business.
10:54You know, and I saw the whole thing play out.
10:56I was watching.
10:57What has happened since then?
10:59And then Jah's like, I'm hearing that he's like,
11:02I'm not listening to this guy with his crappy offense.
11:05Are they all like splintering?
11:09The teammates, are they splintering?
11:11Or can they save it and ball and just quit being P's?
11:16I mean, honestly, at some point, you're like, bro, stop being a P.
11:19Let's go ball.
11:21I think they can do that.
11:22They've done it before.
11:23I think it had to happen.
11:24You've been on teams where you have guys getting each other's face.
11:27You're holding each other accountable.
11:28I didn't have a problem with it.
11:30I saw the two of them the next day in the weight room together at the team hotel.
11:33Didn't appear to be a problem.
11:34I wasn't worried.
11:35They were going to pick up a 10 pound dumbbell.
11:38Mafia would have hit me with a dumbbell in the motel.
11:42You know, he would have hit me with a big old 10 pounder.
11:46Yeah, no doubt about it.
11:47But I think they can.
11:48And if they do, they can be good.
11:50If the ball flows in this offense, they get a lot of open looks.
11:53But it's also like I said, man, it's got to start on the defensive end.
11:56Got to play both ends of the floor.
11:57Because if not, you're pressing on the offensive end.
12:00And all the characteristics of what makes it successful go out the window.
12:03Listen, I'm pulling for you.
12:07I know this game tonight.
12:08I'm glad it's not on TV tonight.
12:10The way the way they've been playing.
12:12I'm glad you're just calling the game.
12:14Have fun in Miami.
12:15I hope you win.
12:16Because I think they kind of have had.
12:18I think Jimmy Butler ruined that team.
12:20I think they they're another one.
12:22They had a bloodletting.
12:23Hey, Eric, again, my love.
12:25Thank you so much for the jobs.
12:27You're the best.
12:28Tell my my guy in the equipment room.
12:30I love the Grizzlies.
12:31Thank you so much.
12:33Thanks, brother.
12:33Be well.
