00:00Well, we are tracking the next incoming storm system.
00:02It's going to be another messy one.
00:03Not an April Fool's joke, but it does
00:05arrive in time for April the 1st.
00:07And then a quieter pattern sets in.
00:19Picked up some snow, of course, over the weekend.
00:22Heaviest was in the far western part of the state.
00:25Really not amounting to a whole lot,
00:27though, compared to what some of the computer models are doing.
00:29This is why this time of year is very tricky to forecast,
00:31because there's a lot of melting and compacting,
00:33and it's hard to get it to do much during the daylight hours.
00:36But we did pick up 1.7 inches of snow in the Twin Cities
00:40officially, but most importantly, a lot of water.
00:42We picked up about 1 and 3 quarters
00:45of an inch of just rain Saturday,
00:47bringing our March precipitation totals almost three inches,
00:51which is more than double all of the winter precipitation we
00:54had, which is pretty incredible.
00:56Clear skies today, one quiet day.
00:57You can see that swath of snow there in southeastern Minnesota.
01:01Temperatures into the low to mid 40s this afternoon,
01:03so we've already melted a lot of that inch or two of snow
01:06that we saw across the metro area.
01:08And we're already watching the next storm
01:10system coming in for tomorrow.
01:11This temporary high pressure will move on.
01:14This Pacific storm is going to move in,
01:16and this is going to be a significant system
01:19for the whole country, really.
01:20Everywhere east of the Rockies will be affected by this
01:22in one way or another.
01:23Severe weather to our south and wintry weather for us.
01:26Snow and rain develops already tomorrow morning into midday.
01:29And this system for the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota
01:32is going to go kind of back and forth.
01:34We'll be back into rain on Wednesday.
01:36It's staying all snow in the northern part of the state.
01:39So Winter Storm Watch posted for much
01:41of north central and northeastern Minnesota.
01:43This means this is the area the weather service
01:45is eyeing for that potential for more than six inches of snow.
01:48The Twin Cities not included in that for the most part.
01:52We're going to stay on probably the lighter side
01:53of accumulations.
01:54But late morning, here's snow.
01:56This is all snow tomorrow morning.
01:57But then as we get into the afternoon,
01:59staying snow in central Minnesota.
02:01But we switch over probably to rain, or at least
02:03a mix of rain and snow.
02:04And then again, you can kind of see we're on the edge of that
02:06through the overnight tomorrow night.
02:08On this model, back to rain on Wednesday
02:11and continued heavy snow for central and northern Minnesota.
02:14So the question is, do we switch back
02:15to snow tomorrow night predominantly
02:17in the Twin Cities?
02:19If it does, we'll actually get some snowfall.
02:20But that particular model, the high resolution
02:22rapid refresh model, keeps us mostly
02:25in the form of rain Tuesday night,
02:26really limiting our total.
02:28So it looks heaviest.
02:29We're talking 6 to 10 inches across north central Minnesota.
02:32And up the north shore could see over a foot in the Twin Cities,
02:34probably a slushy couple of inches.
02:36But again, it's going to be hard to see that all at once,
02:38because we're going to be going back and forth.
02:40This breaks it down.
02:41This is the NAMM model, breaking it down by type.
02:43Mostly rain for southern Minnesota.
02:45Mostly snow for northern Minnesota.
02:47But you can see the Twin Cities.
02:48We're in this area where we get both green and blue,
02:52which means we're going to get both snow and rain out of this.
02:54Mostly rain and snow tomorrow, snow tomorrow night,
02:57and then back to probably rain on Wednesday.
02:59But cooler than normal temperatures, too,
03:01for the most part, except for Friday and then next week.
03:04Spring is back.
03:05Should see some low 60s.
03:06But quiet today still.
03:08And tomorrow morning, I think your morning commute
03:10will be dry in the Twin Cities.
03:11But the afternoon commute, probably sloppy.
03:14But again, it might be mostly rain and snow.
03:16Temperatures will be above freezing.
03:17So roadways probably just wet during the day tomorrow.
03:20But then tomorrow night, we see a changeover to snow.
03:23That's when we'll see probably the bulk of our accumulation
03:25in the Twin Cities.
03:26Again, maybe a slushy couple of inches.
03:29But with temperatures staying at or above freezing,
03:31probably, again, mostly wet and slushy roads.
03:33And then Wednesday, look at the temperatures.
03:35We pop up to 50 degrees.
03:37So mostly rain during the day.
03:40And then it cools off a little bit here Thursday.
03:42Still some lingering clouds.
03:43More sunshine Friday.
03:45Temporarily warmer in the 50s.
03:47And quiet, though, most importantly.
03:49We're going to miss another big storm to our south.
03:51It looks like Saturday that'll create a lot of rain
03:53and severe weather across the central US.
