00:00The Commission on Elections, or COMELEC, will begin the deployment of automated counting machines in various areas of the country this week as part of its preparations for the midterm polls.
00:12Luisa Erispe of PTV Manila tells us more.
00:18With just more than a month before the 2025 midterm elections, the Commission on Elections, or COMELEC, aims to start the deployment of the automated counting machines to different parts of the country.
00:29According to COMELEC Chief Attorney George Erwin Garcia, they aim to start the deployment on April 4 or this Friday.
00:43The machine will go directly to the poll body's offices.
00:46Currently, there are 47,000 machines ready to be deployed, and 63,000 are undergoing pre-election logic accuracy tests, or pre-LAT.
00:56The poll body assured that all the machines that will be deployed are ready to be used on election day.
01:15On April 20, the Commission will start the deployment of the official ballots.
01:19This will be accounted to the City Treasurer's Office.
01:22The COMELEC assured there will be no delay, and they are still on track as far as their schedule is concerned.
01:29At all costs, all ballots and all machines will arrive on or before May 5.
01:36Why? Because the final testing and searing will start from May 6 onwards.
01:43The COMELEC foresees the possibility of also deploying machines to Myanmar and Thailand after the earthquake.
01:51If the circumstances won't permit Filipinos to vote via online on the said countries, they are ready to immediately print ballots and prepare ACMs.
01:59There are about 300 registered voters in Myanmar, and there are more than 8,000 in Thailand.
02:21Meanwhile, on the local campaign, the poll body reminds candidates that the election is not a war, and respect should remain within political rivalries.
02:30In Abra, COMELEC received reports of consecutive shooting incidents involving candidates.
02:36That's why they are looking into the possibility of placing Abra under COMELEC control.
02:50We will not hesitate to place Abra under COMELEC control once again.
02:58It may be a competition, but it is not a war.
03:01We are still friends, we are still one country, and we will be allies.
03:04So, there will be no killing, there will be no violence.
