00:00A joyful Monday afternoon, folks and friends. Yours truly, Denise Osorio here, and this
00:12is PTV News Now. We begin this afternoon's stories with what
00:17has been the talk of people of late. Malacanang has vowed to step up the fight
00:21against hunger after a new survey revealed that more Filipino families are struggling
00:26to put food on the table. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro addressed
00:30the latest report of the Social Weather Station, or SWS, emphasizing on the government's
00:35several programs in place to assist the hungry, including food aid for 300,000 families and
00:41the Walang Gutom Kitchen, which serves meals to those in need.
00:45Reassuring the public, Castro indicated officials are keeping a close eye on hunger issues to
00:50pinpoint the hardest-hit areas and explore additional ways to ease the crisis.
00:55The SWS survey, conducted from March 15 to 20 this year, found that about 7.5 million
01:06300,004 food households, equivalent to 1.5 million individuals across the country, are
01:18being given P3,000 monthly as food aid. The second program of the SWD is the Walang Gutom
01:31Kitchen. This is located in Pasay City, where hot free meals are served to families and
01:39children, especially those in Lansangan. Pope Francis on Sunday said he sees Lent as
01:48a time for healing, both inside and out, as he continues to recuperate from bilateral
01:53pneumonia. As he's still on demand, the Vatican released
01:56his message in written form instead of having speak to the public as the 88-year-old Pope
02:01was just released from the hospital a week ago after a 38-day stay. Encouraging others
02:06to make the most of Lent, he described it as a perfect time for healing, especially
02:10since this year marks a jubilee. The Pope also gave a nod to those who lend
02:14a helping hand, whether through kindness, expertise, care, or prayers, saying they play
02:19a big role in lifting others up. Recognizing that everyone faces tough times,
02:23he reminded people that illness and weakness are part of life, but more importantly, emphasized
02:29that no one goes through it alone, since faith brings people together as one big family.
02:34Doctors stated it will take about two months for him to recover.
