Peter Dutton has made his first promise of the official election campaign. He's vowed electricity prices will be lower under a Coalition government. While he was making the pledge on day one of campaigning, Anthony Albanese made a home run into the Opposition Leader's Brisbane seat, talking-up Labor’s chances of snatching it.

00:21We can't get any housing, we can't get rentals anymore.
00:24You can't touch me mate.
00:26Why are you lying to the Australian people about the cost of nuclear and gas?
00:30It's going to cook the country, it's going to cook our country.
00:33Why are you lying to the Australian people?
00:35The cost of gas and electricity took Peter Dutton out of his electorate to the 4X brewery.
00:40We had 300% increases in gas and electricity prices.
00:44His solution, a government mandated grab for gas currently being exported, now comes with
00:50a promise to not only drive down gas prices that industry pays, but to have it flow through
00:55to electricity bills too.
00:58Under our plan, electricity prices will come down.
01:00By how much and when are the critical questions.
01:04Prices will be lower under us, there is no question about that.
01:07No answers yet, only an indication that projections and paperwork will come.
01:13Why won't you release the laws?
01:14You'll see it very shortly.
01:15Everything that Peter Dutton says about the cost of living is meaningless when you remember
01:20he wants to jack up taxes on every taxpayer in this country.
01:25With the Liberal leader across town, Labor swept into his marginal Dixon electorate,
01:31supporting Aylee France on her third tilt at the seat.
01:35He's been here for 24 years, I think it's time for a change here in this electorate.
01:40I'm out to win new seats.
01:41I'd welcome Mr Albanese meeting as many of my constituents in Dixon as possible and I
01:46think my margin would go up as a result of that.
01:49Every seat counts on the race to 76, the threshold needed for outright victory.
01:54But hanging over this election is the ever-present possibility that neither side gets there.
01:59The traditional approach is to concede nothing about minority government.
02:04Peter Dutton's just bucked tradition.
02:07He's already calling it on his opponent's behalf.
02:10Does anyone believe that Anthony Albanese can form a majority government after the election?
02:19I believe that we can achieve a majority government.
02:21Beyond the golden silence of the paid sceptics.
02:25Welcome the Honourable Peter Dutton, soon to be the Prime Minister of Australia.
02:35Even the supporters seem to need convincing.
