Italy isn't the only country whose brainrot memes are taking over the web. Similarly AI image/text-to-speech memes are coming out of Indonesia - memes like Hotspot Bro and Tung Tung Sahur.

00:00HOTSPOT BRO Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung
00:04Sahur We've talked about Italian brain rot,
00:06but Italy isn't the only country whose brain rot memes are getting international attention.
00:10Indonesia has entered the international brain rot chat with new memes to rival
00:14Bambadillo Crocodillo. First is the Hotspot Bro. You know, that one bro that always wants
00:19to use your hotspot. The original post that introduced the meme was shared by TikToker
00:23Dits88 on March 8th, 2025. The video features a seemingly AI-generated image of a sad skeleton
00:29with a phone for a head, on his knees, holding a phone with a Wi-Fi signal displayed. It's
00:33paired with a male, Indonesian text-to-speech audio that says,
00:49The Indonesian being spoken translates to a kind of rant warning people against giving a specific
00:54anomaly your Wi-Fi hotspot, claiming that the anomaly will use the hotspot to download large
00:58files. The video garnered over 10 million views in just two weeks, as it spread outside of
01:02Indonesian TikTok. The audio, and several related audios, went viral over the following days,
01:07as TikTokers began using similar AI-generated imagery in memes about the bro who asks for
01:13the hotspot. For example, on March 13th, TikToker raw25mzi posted a video using an AI image of
01:19Gollum from the Lord of the Rings with a phone, garnering over 6 million views in under a week.
01:23Users would act out skits and reference the meme in all kinds of other ways.
01:29Merging it with other, currently popular memes, particularly international ones.
01:36That brings us to this guy, known as
01:39This AI-generated image of an anthropomorphic drum was first posted, as far as we can tell,
01:44by TikToker Noxah Asht on February 8th, 2025,
01:48who paired the odd image with this male AI Indonesian text-to-speech audio.
01:58The speech here roughly translates to reveal a sort of creepypasta about this scary anomaly
02:06creature that only comes out at suhoor. It presents lore suggesting that saying suhoor
02:10three times will summon the bedug creature to your house and encourages you to share
02:14the lore with friends. Suhoor is the morning meal eaten before fasting during Ramadan.
02:18In Indonesian and Malaysian culture, a large double-headed drum called a bedug
02:22is used to signal prayer times and during Ramadan to announce suhoor.
02:25The tung-tung-tung seems to be an onomatopoeia made to resemble the sound of the drum.
02:29Over the next month, the original video would garner over 31 million views,
02:33and memers would start posting more content featuring the audio and the
02:36character in different AI videos on TikTok. Many of these would go on to garner millions of views.
02:41Creators would also refer to the meme in other ways,
02:43with some making content merging this character with Italian brain rot meme characters.
