00:00Alright, top news coming in at this bulletin from Andhra Pradesh.
00:04We are told that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister vows to protect the Waqf properties.
00:10This is big news.
00:11Remember, because this is Chandrababu Naidu saying, will always support the Muslim community.
00:17Naidu attending one of the Iftar events as we are heading to the end of the Ramzan month.
00:23He is vowing support to them.
00:25He is saying that at the Ramzan Iftar celebrations, we will protect Waqf properties.
00:31Now remember, he is an NDA ally.
00:35For Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister to take a stand which is fairly different from what
00:39the government of the centre has been saying about Waqf's arbitrary powers, sweeping powers
00:45that is leading to land grab charges, specifically in fact in southern states, but Andhra Pradesh
00:52Chief Minister clearly looking at his state structure right now and the state groups
01:22My colleague Apoorva Jayachandran joining me for the latest on that.
01:49Apoorva, this is a very interesting comment, isn't it?
01:51Because this comes amid what the centre is saying is slightly different.
01:56Well, definitely Pooja, in fact, remember Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Narachandrababu
02:04Naidu, since the NDA had come into power here in Andhra Pradesh last year, you know, he
02:10had talked about how the recent geo, the past geo that had been introduced, you know, geo
02:15number 43 that he is talking about, that had been dissolved, that was a geo introduced
02:20by the YSRCB, you know, government then, former government of Andhra Pradesh and he says that
02:25there had been several discrepancies, you know, relating to that bill that had been
02:30passed and that the NDA government after it came into power, it had dissolved, you know,
02:35that bill there and that Andhra Pradesh government now constituting a new Waqf board with, you
02:43know, a list of new set of members there and it's same on those lines today as well,
02:48you see how at the Iftar party that Chief Minister Naidu is going on and giving an assurance
02:54to the, you know, the Muslim community there, not only saying that he will protect the,
03:00you know, Waqf properties, but he's also going on and stating that the Telugud Assam party
03:06for which he is the chief, Telugud Assam party will always be, you know, a party that will
03:11protect the rights and the wishes of the minorities. Said this ever before in the past few days of the
03:16controversy or can we say this is possibly the first time that Chandrababu Naidu officially
03:21on the stage knowing he's on camera saying he will protect all the Waqf properties and
03:26will support the Muslim community. Well, you know, this is not the first time that Mr. Naidu
03:34has gone ahead and given assurance to the Muslim community there, in fact, earlier on as well when
03:40the Waqf board controversy had picked up pace a couple of months back as well, Mr. Naidu had
03:46always said that protecting the Muslim community, protecting, you know, our, you know, Muslim
03:51brothers and sisters, that's going to be always a priority for the Telugud Assam-led party here,
03:57especially in the state of Andhra Pradesh and that it's going to be an amalgamation of all
04:01religions, you know, people of all religions living together in a well-organized and a well
04:07communal manner as well and that's the same that Mr. Naidu has always been practicing and this
04:12statement there yesterday that was made at the Iftar party reiterates his statement there wherein
04:18he says we will protect not only Waqf properties but we'll also ensure that there is upliftment
04:22and overall development for the community as well. Keep tracking all the latest on this,
04:29Apurva, because it's going to get very interesting. In many ways, the Chief Minister is looking at
04:33the local wood bank, their state structure right now, their support and could take a different view
04:39even if they are an NDA ally. We'll be tracking that. Thank you, Apurva, for now.
04:43I have news coming in from Jammu and Kashmir. Remember, since the past few days there have
04:55been tensions in the Kotwa region in Jammu where there's been an encounter as well since the past
05:00two days. We are informed of fresh firing that has come in from the encounter site in Juthana
05:05village. Remember, these are far-flung areas. These are forests and fields, very difficult to
05:10operate in. It's a joint operation by the army, by the JKP. Efforts are on now to trace the bodies
05:16of the terrorists and also sadly we have had casualties from our side and remember this is
05:23in many ways a reminder of what our police personnel and our forces even right now in
05:30a much different J&K are still facing. This is what Pakistan consistently is trying to do.
05:34Counter-terror operation resumes. Sunil Jeebhatt joins me. Sunil, tell us about what is the current
05:41status. So, there has been confirmation of terrorists neutralized. Sadly, there are casualties
05:46of the cops as well from JKP. Tell us about that and why is the retrieval of bodies so difficult?
05:52Pooja search operation was resumed by the security forces early this morning and the
06:04latest information from ground is that fresh firing has been reported from Juthana area and
06:10teams from the Indian Army, J&K police as well as from the paramilitary forces are on ground. Many
06:19teams have gone deep inside the forested area and the priority is to neutralize the remaining
06:25three terrorists and Pooja, this operation has resumed again. Fresh firing has been reported.
06:31In this operation, the security forces have eliminated two terrorists. Two terrorists were
06:38eliminated by security forces yesterday. Unfortunately, three or four jawans from
06:44the J&K police lost their lives. They made the supreme sacrifice of their lives in this
06:49counter-terror operation. Their bodies are yet to be retrieved because this is a very difficult
06:55area. This stretch, Juthana stretch is surrounded by mountains and densely forested area. So,
07:02it becomes very difficult to carry out counter-terror operation in areas like these.
07:07The security forces are on their job. Many teams have gone inside the forest area and they are
07:13trying to retrieve the bodies of the three security personnel who made the supreme sacrifice
07:20of their lives. They attained virgati and this operation has now been intensified with the
07:25special forces of the army also joining this counter-terror operation. Senior officials from
07:32the J&K police including Director General of J&K police Naleen Prabhat are monitoring the situation.
07:40They are getting minute-to-minute updates as far as this counter-terror operation is concerned.
07:47Two terrorists were eliminated yesterday. Three more are holed up in the forest area
07:52and the security forces are trying their level best to neutralize them as soon as possible.
07:58Again, a reminder to the viewer that tensions prevail at least especially in the border areas.
08:03Even now, Pakistan is trying to do whatever it can to disturb the peace and prosperity of J&K.
08:10Another incident of a married couple where one partner has killed another stubbed the body parts
08:23this time in a suitcase. This incident coming in from Bengaluru where the cops from Maharashtra
08:29have confirmed that the suspect husband has been nabbed and they are calling him the killer in this
08:35case but he's also appeared to have consumed a poison like substance. He has been discharged
08:42though from the hospital which means his condition is stable. He was slightly dizzy. He was found in
08:48a vehicle that is when the locals informed the cops. The cops had also been remember tracking
08:52his mobile phone data. He's been admitted in Satara but here's what has happened. A young
08:58couple married barely about two years ago were facing frequent arguments according to the
09:03information coming in and then the husband allegedly killed the wife and then also informed
09:12the family that the body is in the suitcase at the house. He then fled to Maharashtra where he was
09:18eventually nabbed from by the cops. So the Karnataka cops, the Maharashtra cops coordinating here
09:24and a sad reminder. Remember this barely comes days after what we saw in Meerut where a wife
09:31with a partner killed the husband, stuffed the body in a drum. Omkar Wable is joining me from
09:36Pune for the latest on that. So Omkar can we say that the cops have confirmed that he is being seen
09:42as the main killer and how is his health condition right now? He appeared to have also consumed a
09:47poison. Well exactly. He fled from the Bengaluru after committing the crime and he was coming
09:57towards Pune. Some relatives of Khedkar stays in Pune. Basically the whole family belongs to this
10:02same city and that is why he was coming back. So now investigation is underway. Police are
10:08trying to trace those people with whom the accused was in contact with and also while
10:13travelling to Pune, Satara police detained him during the border of Satara and Pune. There's a
10:20place called Pargaon Khandala. So some localites got to know some random person was feeling dizzy.
10:26He slept on the road and that's how they informed the police. Then police got to know he consumed
10:32a poison like substance. He was hospitalized in Bhati Vidya Pit near Katraj but now
10:37he already got a discharge and he moved to the government hospital. Some formalities are
10:43underway because Satara police detained him and that is why they have to transfer the accused to
10:48the Bengaluru police. So formalities are underway but yes it is confirmed that he was the one who
10:53committed the crime. So the jurisdiction will come under the Bengaluru police. Keep tracking
10:57all the latest on that. The incident basically took place in Bengaluru. If you're tuning in right
11:02now, a woman's body has been found in a suitcase and the killer, the accused, the suspect is being
11:09seen as her own husband. She was 32 year old Gauri Samrekar allegedly killed by her husband Rakesh.
11:15Police have said that the background to this is that the couple used to have frequent arguments
11:20and they were fairly newly married. Now in one of the arguments the wife also allegedly physically
11:26assaulted the husband but one argument went too far where Rakesh appears to have stabbed Gauri
11:32with a knife repeatedly even slitting her throat and then he stuffed the body in a suitcase and
11:37left at an apartment. The couple said to be originally from Maharashtra were working in
11:41Bengaluru at a private firm. He has been now nabbed from Maharashtra. He's also undergoing
11:47treatment right now but a disturbing incident. Remember whether it's from the Shraddha Valkar
11:52case and then now we've had multiple instances of young couples killing each other.
12:17In India today's Nagarjun Dwarkanath joins me from Bengaluru. Remember it's it's a thread
12:44connecting Bengaluru to Pune right now two different states. Nagarjun I'm curious how did
12:48the case surface how how would one know that there in the apartment is a suitcase and in that there
12:53is a body of a woman and then the husband is suspected to be the killer? Well the preliminary
13:01report suggests that Rakesh also informed the local police in Maharashtra and then they also
13:06informed here. Meanwhile he also informed the carpenter who was living below his flat is what
13:12we are told and that carpenter was a neighbor then finally told the owner of this flat that
13:17Rakesh has called us and said this and this is a the wife has been put in a suitcase is what the
13:23carpenter told the owner and the owner finally called the control room Bangalore police and the
13:26Bangalore police rushed immediately. So they had two leads one from the owner one from the
13:31Maharashtra police also because Rakesh had consumed poison and finally confessed before
13:35Maharashtra police of this crime and yesterday the police reached in the evening to the flat
13:41and they unlocked the flat and finally found Gauri's body packed in the suitcase and there
13:45were stab marks on the stomach is what we are told. Initially the fight broke out on March 26th
13:51evening the couple used to fight a lot is what we are told and in the fight Gauri hit Rakesh
13:57with a knife and the same knife Rakesh took and in anger stabbed her and finally she died
14:02on the spot there itself at the house and then Rakesh packed Gauri's body in the suitcase and in
14:08left immediately to Pune. It shouldn't be this common at all is this something that perhaps must
14:14be looked at as well why are young couples especially married couples leading and resorting
14:18to murdering each other. Nagarjun keep tracking all the latest on that appreciate you joining us
14:23with all the details coming in. I want to now take you to Oxford University in London that's
14:29where full-on drama theatrics happened Mamata Banerjee the Bengal CM was there she's been in
14:35the UK for a while now for the past few days and she was speaking at the prestigious university but
14:40it led to a full-blown protest she was addressing a crowd of students and more amid her speech
14:46there were some groups that started to protest these were left-backed groups and they were
14:51raising go-back slogans against Mamata Banerjee interrupting her mid-speech prompting Mamata
14:56Banerjee also to retort not just with a response she also brought her own poster and said that
15:02you referring to the left have intended to kill her all these years the Bengal chief minister
15:07also said she's a royal Bengal tiger and she's not going to be afraid of all of this the BJP
15:12has also jumped in doubling down targeting how there is common people anger against Mamata Banerjee
15:23you know the case is sub judice and also it is central government has taken over
15:28it is not with us please don't do politics here it is not a political state
15:33that you can do it with me in my state not here if you want to make it a political platform
15:39go to Bengal and tell your party to be more strong and more stable to fight against the communal people
15:48yes i will give you reply wait wait wait a minute
16:02this is you here this is you want to kill me i was about to die this is your atrocities
16:10just see just have a look have a look how you
16:16didi will come every time didi don't give order didi don't order anybody didi walk just like a
16:24royal bengal tiger if you can catch catch me if you can but don't fight me if you don't touch me
16:34i totally condemn it oxford university is not mamta's own place she went there on invitation
16:44so what can we do it is for the oxford university authorities and the
16:52uh england police to take steps in this matter just to get publicity they have done this
17:05no reason mamta banerjee is a duly elected chief minister of a state being a chief minister of a
17:13country of our country yes it is really it is not good that some some people agitated there
17:20but the thing is that the nirbhaya kanda or abhaya kanda of kolkata and with the
17:26security safety of the hindus we are really in question even when mamta banerjee
17:32she is in london at that point also the riot erupted in the malda district motabari and
17:39adjacent area and uh from yesterday we were very busy the bjp leaders to you know manage manage
17:48that riot and so this is the situation of west bengal west bengal is really mamta banerjee
17:53is making west bengal uh for graveyard of the common people especially the hindus and the
17:59educated people yes so are you saying so this is anger of common people this is not just politically
18:04bagged but common people anger even in london against mamta banerjee yes it is it is the anger
18:10of the common people because you know this kind of agitation even i have seen before
18:18in the some other countries foreign countries when mamta banerjee was not there because the
18:24the way in which mamta banerjee handled the rg car and the other issues is really it is not right
18:40foreign
19:11foreign
19:22yeah today's editor indrajeet kundu joining me from kolkata indrajeet good morning what was the
19:27the main issue for which the heckling and the protest started because i don't think it's also
19:32happened that the speaker herself had a poster so she clearly anticipated i believe that there
19:38would be left bank protests against her well puja you know uh a week before she embarked on this
19:45trip there was clear intel uh with the west bengal administration that mamta banerjee
19:50may face protest and such incidents may take place in fact while she was addressing a press
19:56conference over her uk visit from the state secretariat last week she was asked about this
20:04and there was clear anticipation and therefore mamta banerjee went prepared
20:08and that's the reason why you see that she was carrying a photograph of herself
20:11uh you know uh from the 80s when she was uh when she had been injured uh in an attack
20:18allegedly by the left workers so there was specific inputs that uh you know left activists
20:24students at the oxford university will be protesting against mamta banerjee and that is
20:29exactly what has happened what is curious of course to see is that how mamta banerjee handled
20:34the issue there is a section within the trinamool congress and uh and the buzz on the streets and
20:40of course is that uh you know it it could have been averted because at the end of the day she
20:45is uh she is a constitutional head she's a chief minister holds a constitutional position and also
20:51she represents the country mamta banerjee had said this herself in calcutta before leaving that she
20:57has got the nod from the government of india and she does represent the country as well however you
21:02see bengal politics playing out in full glory at the oxford university on forums on right now with
21:07the sfi now taking a responsibility of what they've done by protesting against mamta banerjee
21:13and the trinamool congress uh going all guns blazing against the left saying that they have no
21:18no support base left in bengal right now so they are a bunch of uh few people are trying to
21:23hog the media limelight by uh you know creating a spectacle on social media indrajeet keep tracking
21:29the latest on that and will mamta banerjee say more about this so rg core rape and horror case
21:33was primarily the concern but you could see look at that posters banners uh primarily left-back
21:39groups student groups we are told that the oxford university came charging at mamta banerjee heckling
21:44amidst people she also came prepared she also had her share of poster to say look how the left has
21:49tried to kill me over the years but i'm royal bengal tiger
21:53is
22:18so that's not the only showdown that tmc and mamta banerjee are facing right now it's bjp
22:22vs TMC as well over infiltrators.
22:25Accusing the Trinamool Congress led government in Bengal of not taking action against infiltration
22:30and in fact giving them documents especially in border states has led to a full on showdown.
22:35Home Minister Amit Shah says there is a 450 km of fencing work that needed to be done
22:40India Bangladesh border but the Bengal government did not give land for it as was required.
22:45Home Minister Amit Shah is saying that the work has been pending despite the government
22:49of centre writing 11 letters to Bengal government holding multiple talks with state officials
22:54and then he accuses the TMC government of even giving Indian documents Aadhar cards
22:59to the Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators.
23:02But the TMC have hit back on that saying Home Minister Amit Shah has not protected the borders
23:07under his supervision and now blaming the TMC over his failures.
23:37Home Minister Amit Shah says that if the Rajasthan government does not provide land for the fencing
23:44work then the government will stop the infiltration and will immediately start the work of fencing
23:51work.
23:52Home Minister Amit Shah says that if the Rajasthan government does not provide land for the fencing
24:01work then the government will immediately start the work of fencing work.
24:05Home Minister Amit Shah says that if the Rajasthan government does not provide land for the fencing
24:12work then the government will immediately start the work of fencing work.
24:15Home Minister Amit Shah says that if the Rajasthan government does not provide land for the fencing
24:20work then the government will immediately start the work of fencing work.
24:23Home Minister Amit Shah says that if the Rajasthan government does not provide land for the fencing
24:28work then the government will immediately start the work of fencing work.
24:31Home Minister Amit Shah says that if the Rajasthan government does not provide land for the fencing
24:38work then the government will immediately start the work of fencing work.
24:41Home Minister Amit Shah says that if the Rajasthan government does not provide land for the fencing
24:46work then the government will immediately start the work of fencing work.
24:49Home Minister Amit Shah says that if the Rajasthan government does not provide land for the fencing
24:54work then the government will immediately start the work of fencing work.
24:57Home Minister Amit Shah says that till now the Home Secretary of India has worked with the Chief Secretary of India
25:02but the Bengal government has not provided any land for fencing work.
25:06Home Minister Amit Shah says that if the Rajasthan government does not provide land for fencing work
25:10then the government will immediately start the work of fencing work.
25:15The bill which is being discussed in the parliament and very soon it will be enacted also.
25:22Immigration bill, important legislation that needed to be in place because four laws either two were there
25:29for the same this thing. Only careers liability that which came into being in 2000.
25:37Otherwise all three were pre-independence laws and many of the provisions in the laws,
25:46four laws were there overlapping each other.
25:50Now the background to all of this showdown is the new immigration bill.
25:54It's been passed in the Lok Sabha. The bill was tabled by Union Home Minister Amit Shah
25:58and he is claiming that this proposed legislation will strengthen the country's security.
26:02It will boost economy, business besides encouraging health and education.
26:06But Union Home Minister Amit Shah also added that there are some people who intend to enter into India
26:11to create unrest and that India is not a dharamshala.
26:15Such individuals will be strongly dealt with especially the illegal intruders.
26:19But also opposition MPs are raising some concerns over the immigration and foreigners bill 2025.
26:24They are saying there are certain provisions that grant arbitrary powers to the immigration authorities
26:30and the bill should be sent to the JPC for a detailed scrutiny on this.
26:35If you ask me, you know that Rohingya and Bangladeshi people have come here illegally.
26:44So this bill has been brought to stop them.
26:48And it will be scrutinised strictly.
26:52And those who break the law will definitely be subjected to strict action.
26:58When we went there, people at the border said,
27:01as soon as a Bangladeshi comes here, he will get a hot Aadhaar card from the Trinamool Party.
27:09He will get a voter card and Mamata didi has made it her vote bank.
27:16This bill will ensure India's security, integrity and prosperity.
27:28Once this bill is passed, all these intruders will not be able to come here.
27:34All the people who were promoting this bill, making all the documents, will also be put behind bars.
27:43PM Modi says that scrutiny is the soul of democracy.
27:48But we don't see any scrutiny in the Parliament.
27:52We don't see any scrutiny in the Parliament.
28:07Unfortunately, there was no satisfactory answer from the Home Minister.
28:12The bill has many infirmities.
28:15It impinges upon civil liberties.
28:18There is a lack of equilibrium in the bill.
28:20It would have been much better that it should have been referred to a joint parliamentary committee.
28:49to enter or exit from India.
28:5110 lakh rupees fine or up to 7 year jail term can be implemented.
28:55These are some of the strict guidelines.
28:57The opposition says send it to JPC.
28:59The government says this will strengthen the immigration laws,
29:02especially to ensure illegal entry exits do not happen.
29:06We will be tracking that and more for now, passed in the Lok Sabha.
29:09Ahead of the Friday prayers this afternoon in Nagpur,
29:17where there had been previously mob violence and arson.
29:21Tight security arrangements have been put in place in Nagpur.
29:25This is no ordinary Friday prayers.
29:28It's also the Alvida Jamaiki Namaz as it is called.
29:31The State Reserve Police Force personnel have been deployed around the mosque premises
29:36so that there are no communal tensions.
29:38It is peaceful for the prayers that will be done by the afternoon, we are told.
29:44Violence started, remember, on 17th March.
29:47Now that happened after the prayers.
29:49It happened in the evening about 6 pm.
29:52And that led to mob violence, arson, over Hindu protests on one side and the film Chawah.
29:59So to ensure nothing of that sort happens this time,
30:02deployment of the Maharashtra Police, Nagpur Police of course,
30:06is there right outside the mosque premises.
30:09Let's listen and take a look at this report.
30:37So here, a big police arrangement has been put in place.
30:40A tight security arrangement.
30:42Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Singhal is monitoring the situation.
30:46The police have also taken out a route march so that there is no accident.
30:50That's why today, before the Alvida Jamaiki Namaz,
30:53the Nagpur Police have put up tight security in the area where the mosques are present.
30:59On 17th March, after the violence in Nagpur,
31:02this area was the most affected by violence.
31:05Because of this, a curfew was also imposed.
31:07However, after the curfew was lifted four days ago,
31:10the first Friday prayer will be offered here.
31:13So the tight security of the police can be seen in Nagpur at this time.
31:17Yogesh Pandey, Nagpur.
31:20Remember, this is the same area, the same city where the massive violence had been reported for hours
31:25and to ensure that neither the curfew nor the situation of that kind rises again, heavy deployment.
31:31But I want to take you to Maharashtra now,
31:33because that's where Shiv Sena is mounting an attack against removal of the Aurangzeb grave.
31:38Shiv Sena has now made a new plea.
31:40They have in fact landed up in Delhi.
31:42A former MP and Shiv Sena leader, Rahul Shivale,
31:44has called on Union Minister for Culture, Ghajindra Shikhabad, at his residence in Delhi.
31:48He is demanding that at least remove Aurangzeb's tomb from the list of protected national monuments.
31:54Currently, the Aurangzeb tomb is under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India.
31:59Now, the controversy, remember, has been wild in debates for a while,
32:03but specifically since the release of Chhawa,
32:05that is about Sambhaji Maharaj, but also as much against the known documented brutalities of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
32:13Since then, there has been a demand for the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb,
32:16even leading to violent clashes, more wars than that we have seen in Nagpur.
32:22The way the Lok Sabha is being run,
32:26and the way the opposition is being silenced,
32:33that is not in the interest of the country, nor is it in the interest of the economy.
32:36I have said that now they are trying to make Maharashtra a communal laboratory.
32:41The Maharashtra that belonged to Phule Shahu Ambedkar,
32:45they are trying to create caste discrimination in that Maharashtra,
32:48and to end the progressive politics of Maharashtra.
32:53I have said directly that I am going to the tomb,
32:56I am going to offer the chadar.
32:58Aurangzeb's tomb is going to be Ayodhya,
33:02and on the issue of elections, they will bring him out with even more power.
33:10So I think that Shivaji's fight with Aurangzeb,
33:14the king was the same, but who came to fight?
33:21Were they Hindu leaders or Muslim leaders?
33:26So this is not a Hindu-Muslim fight.
33:28Alright, staying with Maharashtra, but moving on to a different showdown.
33:33It's over comedian Kunal Kamra.
33:35Shiv Sana leader Rahul Kanal has formally requested Mumbai police
33:38to take action against Kunal Kamra, the stand-up comedian,
33:41saying these allegedly defamatory content on social media pages
33:45is just not a one-off affair, but there are many more of this kind.
33:49He's even submitted hard and soft copies of his complaint to Khar police station,
33:52urging authorities to intervene at the earliest.
33:55According to this leader,
33:57Kamra has been persistently making remarks about high-ranking politicians,
34:01including Prime Minister Modi.
34:03He's saying those remarks are inappropriate and offensive.
34:06Meanwhile, Sena UBD chief Uddhav Thackeray,
34:08coming to Kamra's defense, saying it's a new hit song, it's viral,
34:12and perhaps that's the only good thing about the ongoing Maharashtra Assembly session,
34:16is Kunal Kamra's satire song.
34:19Other opposition parties like NCP Sharad Pawar faction are backing Kamra,
34:23and all of them collectively targeting Mahayati.
34:25So more than Kunal Kamra, or what he has said,
34:27it's now Mahayati versus the Mahavikasagari.

39:23In mobilisation where
39:25we are also seeing
39:27calls for changing
39:29means of constituency
39:31in the National Capital
39:33such as the request
39:35of changing Mustafabad
39:37to Shiv Bihar.
39:39So in an atmosphere like this
39:41unless there is a
39:43protocol that is followed
39:45This is a government that won't change its name.
39:47Wherever you go, change your name.
39:49Changing your name won't change people's health and status.
39:52There are thousands of Urdu names. Change them all.
39:55And what good will the people get by changing them?
39:58The good for the people will be that women in Mustafabad will get Rs. 2500 less.
40:03That will be good for the people of Mustafabad.
40:05People of Mustafabad, whether they got a cylinder on Holi or not,
40:08they would have talked about it. That would have been good for them.
40:11Talk about how the people of Mustafabad will develop. They aren't doing it.
40:41This has come in from the Supreme Court.
40:46Thoughts and views is integral part of a healthy civilized society.
40:51I quote from the Supreme Court here.
40:53Without expression of thoughts and views, it's impossible to lead a dignified life.
40:57But such views must be countered by another point of view.
41:01Right of persons to express their view must be respected and protected.
41:05So that's clear. Supreme Court elaborating here very categorically saying
41:10right of a person to express their view must be respected and must be protected at all cost.
41:17However, there are reasonable restrictions that are also placed
41:22that such expressions cannot be fanciful or obstructive.
41:26Free expression and thought is viewed as integral part of a healthy civilized society.
41:30Without it, difficult to lead a dignified life.
41:34This is what the top court's big observation has come in.
41:42Remember in the backdrop of whether it's the OTT shows,
41:46the recent Kunal Kamra's stand up comedy so to say which many have found offensive.
41:52But the court making it very clear that there is full on free expression of thought allowed in this country.
41:59The right of a person to express views must be respected and protected.
42:03But there are reasonable restrictions which should also be that they cannot be fanciful or obstructive.
42:10India Today's legal correspondent Srishti Ojha joins me for the latest on that.
42:16Srishti tell me more about this because this in many ways could end the debate about absolute freedom.
42:23How much of freedom of expression because it's leading to cases of vandalism, physical attacks.
42:29Well definitely Pooja in this particular case we have seen a big relief coming for Congress MP Imran Pratap Gari
42:37with reference to a case that was registered against him by Gujarat police for a poem that he posted on his social media.
42:44Now the court in this order while setting aside the FIR has clearly said that while it's true that there are restrictions on freedom of speech,
42:52reasonable restrictions but those restrictions have to be reasonable and cannot be fanciful or obstructive.
42:59So that's a big remark which has come in and also talking about the freedom of speech and expression.
43:04The court has said that free expression of thoughts and views is a very integral part of a healthy civilized society.
43:10If a person is not allowed to express his thoughts and views it will be impossible for him to lead a dignified life.
43:17According to the court these views must be countered by another point of view.
43:21That's the right way to go about it and the right that people have under the constitution to express their views must be respected and protected.
43:29Srishti I have an added question here just for the background to the viewer that this is not of course a generic comment.
43:35This has come in the backdrop of Imran Pratap Gari who is a Congress leader about some poetry allegations
43:41and Supreme Court saying that poetry, art, satire it enriches life.
43:45Police is duty bound to uphold that fundamental right.
43:48Tell me more about how the Supreme Court has said that there is law protecting that freedom of expression
43:54but that comes in with perhaps reasonable restrictions.
43:59Well yes Pooja like I mentioned we are talking about Imran Pratap Gari's case where an FIR was filed against him in Gujarat
44:06over a poem that he had posted on his social media.
44:11Now even during the hearing we had seen the Supreme Court call out the Gujarat police
44:15asking them as to why they would file an FIR for a simple poem that was posted by him.
44:21Now in today's judgement the court while setting aside the question has said that poetry, art, satire in a way enrich life and the police.
44:30They have also made a big comment on the police and how the police is duty bound to uphold the fundamental rights and uphold the constitution.
44:37Police can also not go against what is in the constitution.
44:41According to the top court the standard of prejudice must be based on reasonable understanding of the principles,
44:48of understanding persons and not by standards of those who are weak or ready to take offence
44:54and see everything as a threat or criticism.
44:57Free expression of thoughts and views is an integral part of society.
45:00Anyone who is offended, who has criticism to give, give it from a counter view is what the court is saying
45:07rather than indulge in any kind of vandalism that we have seen lately.
45:11Thank you very much for now and can what court has said put an end to the kind of conflict,
45:17vandalism, attacks, political showdown that we have seen or perhaps that would still continue.
45:22On that note I am wrapping up this bulletin for now. Stay tuned.
