00:00All right, top news coming in at this bulletin from Andhra Pradesh.
00:08We are told that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister vows to protect the Waqf properties.
00:15This is big news, remember, because this is Chandrababu Naidu saying, will always support
00:20the Muslim community.
00:21Naidu attending one of the Iftar events as we are heading to the end of the Ramzan month.
00:28He's vowing support to them.
00:30He's saying that at the Ramzan Iftar celebrations, we will protect Waqf properties.
00:36Now remember, he is an NDA ally.
00:39For Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister to take a stand which is fairly different from what
00:44the government of the centre has been saying about Waqf's arbitrary powers, sweeping powers
00:50that is leading to land grab charges, specifically in fact in southern states, but Andhra Pradesh
00:57Chief Minister clearly looking at his state structure right now and the state groups
01:03amid applause, says this.
01:27My colleague Apoorva Jayachandran joining me for the latest on that.
01:53Apoorva, this is a very interesting comment, isn't it?
01:56Because this comes amid what the centre is saying is slightly different.
02:00Well, definitely, Pooja, in fact, remember, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Narachandrababu
02:08Naidu, since the NDA had come into power here in Andhra Pradesh last year, you know, he
02:15had talked about how the recent Jio, the past Jio that had been introduced, you know, Jio
02:20No. 43 that he is talking about, that had been dissolved, that was a Jio introduced
02:24by the YSRCB, you know, government, then former government of Andhra Pradesh and he says that
02:29there had been several discrepancies, you know, relating to that bill that had been
02:35passed and that the NDA government after it came into power, it had dissolved, you know,
02:40that bill there and that Andhra Pradesh government now constituting a new Waqf board with, you
02:47know, a list of new set of members there and it's same on those slides today as well,
02:53you see how at the Iftar party there, Chief Minister Naidu is going on and giving an assurance
02:59to the, you know, the Muslim community there, not only saying that he will protect the,
03:04you know, Waqf properties, but he's also going on and stating that the Telugu Desam
03:09party for which he is the chief, Telugu Desam party will always be, you know, a party that
03:16will protect the rights and the wishes of the minorities and that's it.
03:18Said this ever before in the past few days of the controversy or can we say this is possibly
03:22the first time that Chandrababu Naidu officially on the stage knowing he's on camera saying
03:28he will protect all the Waqf properties and will support the Muslim community?
03:36Well, you know, this is not the first time that Mr. Naidu has gone ahead and given assurance
03:41to the Muslim community there. In fact, earlier on as well, when the Waqf controversy had picked
03:47up pace a couple of months back as well, Mr. Naidu had always said that protecting the Muslim
03:53community, protecting, you know, our, you know, Muslim brothers and sisters, that's going to be
03:58always a priority for the Telugu Desam-led party here, especially in the state of Andhra Pradesh
04:03and that is going to be an amalgamation of all religions, you know, people of all religions
04:08living together in a well-organized and a well communal manner as well and that's the same that
04:14Mr. Naidu has always been practicing and this statement there yesterday that was made at the
04:19Iftar party reiterates his statement there wherein he says we will protect not only Waqf properties
04:25but we'll also ensure that there is upliftment and overall development for the community as well.
04:32Keep tracking all the latest on this, Apurva, because it's going to get very interesting.
04:36In many ways, the Chief Minister is looking at the local vote bank, their state structure right
04:41now, their support and could take a different view even if they are an NDA ally. We'll be
04:46tracking that. Thank you, Apurva, for now.
