From the return of shooting stars to a planetary gathering, here are the top astronomy events to mark on your April 2025 calendar.
Transcript
00:00The Pink Moon will rise on the night of April 12th and 13th.
00:09Despite its nickname, April's full moon is actually named after the wild ground phlox,
00:15one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring season.
00:18The Pink Moon will not really be pink.
00:21After a three-month hiatus, shooting stars will return just in time for spring, with
00:26the peak of the Lirid meteor shower.
00:28The peak of the shower on the night of April 21st and 22nd will produce about 20 meteors
00:33per hour.
00:34The meteor shower should have a good showing, with only a crescent moon competing for the
00:38night sky.
00:40Speaking of the crescent moon, it will gather alongside the planets Venus, Saturn and Mercury
00:45on the morning of April 25th.
00:47This planetary alignment offers a great opportunity for nighttime photography or grabbing a telescope
00:53and observing the celestial worlds up close.
