Transcript
00:00The Detroit Lions may already be looking for David Montgomery's replacement in the 2025 NFL draft. Let's talk about
00:09I make pain with a disease sports to trade today
00:12We're going to talk about how the Lions have already started to kind of look for David Montgomery's
00:17Replacement and how Montgomery might not be around as long as we think he might let's start off with the Montgomery part of this
00:23Obviously the last two years have been really good him and Jameer Gibbs the Sonic and Knuckles duo
00:28They have come very very close to to being one of those duos that can do a thousand yards each
00:33It's really hard to do really hard to achieve, but they keep almost doing it
00:39injuries pesky injuries get in the way, but
00:41the Lions
00:43rewarded Montgomery with a
00:45Nice two-year extension in October that would lead you to believe
00:48Hey
00:48They want him here until 2027 when that deal runs out
00:51But when you look at the way that contract is structured the ball is in the Lions court on this one
00:56They have the opportunity to
00:59Move on from Montgomery after the 2025 season and with very little dead money and they'll save 15 million
01:06Over the course of 2026 and 2027. That's something you have to pay attention to
01:10So if Montgomery comes out doesn't have that big of a year, you know, maybe they decide it's time but going into this season
01:17Everything's gonna be geared much more towards Jameer Gibbs
01:20and it was Dave Montgomery just considering some of the coaching hires like to char choice and John Morton and
01:26Moving Scotty Montgomery over to the receivers
01:28It just seems like this team really wants to run the ball a lot in 2025 and they want to run it
01:33Would you mirror Gibbs?
01:34So that could make Montgomery take a bit of a backseat with that said the Lions have already started to meet with some running backs
01:42That are gonna be out in this 2025 NFL draft
01:44For example, they had a top 30 visit with UC Davis running back land Larrison really interesting player that I
01:52Highly recommend you guys watch the film on this guy went over 2,000 all-purpose yards last year
01:58The only guy who had more yards in him was Ashton GT for Boise State who's gonna be potentially a top 15 pick in this draft
02:07Obviously, he's an FCS guy and you wonder, you know, has he faced any really good competition?
02:12But sometimes when you have it you have it. This guy could be a running back. He'd be a receiver
02:16Another guy is Josh Williams from LSU
02:20Penny Boone the Detroit native from Martin Luther King High School
02:24Really good for Toledo had a bad year for Central, Florida last year and then there's Boston colleges to Shawn Ward
02:31Those are just the guys that we know about so far the guys that are confirmed
02:34The Lions could continue to be looking they're going to all these pro days right now
02:39Somebody that you know, Jaden blue from Texas who just worked with Tashard choice. That's somebody you have to keep an eye on
02:46You don't know, you know, the Lions are not a needs-based drafting team
02:50they've said that a million times and they'll say it a million more times until people finally understand it and
02:56If they decide when they get to a certain point if the best player available
03:00There is a running back and they can kind of move forward whatever their plan is gonna be there
03:04They're gonna do it and they're showing that they have no problem doing that and looking at those players and coming up with a potential
03:11plan and
03:13This is just something that you have to think about something you have to be aware about
03:16While we love David Montgomery in Detroit, everybody loves him. Don't want him to go anywhere
03:20It's certainly a possibility that he could be and it's something that you have to be paying attention to
03:25So we'll see what happens in the draft in April until then. We'll see you next time
