Most Bollywood potboilers revolve around macho policemen, but Rani Mukerji's new film is an ode to India’s women police officers.

00:00I promise you, I will drag this demon out of my collar and bring him to the court.
00:12I got excited while doing this film because
00:16when I was researching for my role, whether it was Mardani 1 or Mardani 2,
00:20I've met a lot of women police officers.
00:22And actually meeting them, talking to them, talking about their life,
00:26talking about how they face the criminals,
00:28how they are on the crime scene,
00:30what they do and how they do it,
00:32how is their balance between their family life,
00:35because they all have kids.
00:36So for them to balance that also is something amazing
00:39because sometimes for days together,
00:42they have to be at the police station without going home.
00:45So it's a very challenging job for them.
00:47And especially like, you know, when I was talking to them,
00:51like in India especially, we have a lot of festivals.
00:54You know, whether it is Ganesh Chaturthi,
00:56or whether it's Durga Puja, whether it's Chhat Puja, or whatever.
00:59But you'll see that all the officers have left their families
01:03and they are protecting the citizens on that day.
01:06So they also have that sacrifice that, like on Diwali,
01:10they have to be there all around the city, you know, protecting us.
01:14So I think Mardani also in a way is a salute to the police force.
01:26In the film industry, we get to see a lot of stories of male officers.
01:52We get to see a larger-than-life image of them.
01:56So I think Mardani is a little small effort to show our women officers
02:00in the best light and the most courageous and brave light
02:03because I think they truly, truly deserve to be in the mainstream and in focus.
02:08Shivani, just get that bastard.
02:11I will.
