00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London. Today we're at
00:04London's abandoned crossing, Galleons Bridge. Galleons Bridge is a long
00:09forgotten piece of London's history and it was an ambitious project meant to
00:13connect the Royal Docks in East London to the Thames Gateway. First conceived in
00:18the 1990s, the bridge was part of a wider regeneration plan to improve
00:22transportation and stimulate growth in the area. It was designed to be a
00:26stunning modern structure capable of carrying traffic and pedestrians. However
00:31despite initial designs and plans, Galleons Bridge was never built. Funding
00:36issues, political shifts and change in priorities led to delays and the project
00:41was eventually shelved. While transportation needs in East London
00:45continue to grow, Galleons Bridge stands as a symbol of what might have been
00:50showcasing the challenges of large infrastructure projects in London.
