00:00We can hear you without mic, no problem, yeah.
00:04You are good listeners.
00:07My… Hi everyone, I am Suchitra from News18.
00:11And my question to you, first question will be to Rajiveta,
00:14like I really want to know how do you do that?
00:18Like your transition from the actor to director,
00:21in between singer and cinematographer, we…
00:24you fill every role in the industry actually.
00:27So how… it is so seamless but we know how challenge it is actually.
00:32And what was the testing point when it comes to Lose Your Universe,
00:36starting from 2018 to till now, what was the testing point you say?
00:41And if I have… ask one more question to any of…
00:44any one of you can answer.
00:47What is the one best thing Malayalam cinema does,
00:50which any other industry does not have?
00:54I assume the first question is directly at me, so yeah.
00:58No, I am… I consider myself more than anything a student of cinema.
01:04I understand that the primary craft that I practice is acting
01:08and I am always going to be an actor first.
01:12But having said that, I am a student of cinema
01:14and every opportunity I get to learn any craft in cinema,
01:17I will learn as much as I can.
01:20So for me, the entire process of filmmaking
01:22is a giant collaborative process
01:24where different people could be handling different things,
01:27same person could be handling multiple things.
01:30And I want to know, learn, practice and exercise as many crafts as I can
01:34because that is how you learn cinema.
01:36And forever I hope I will continue learning
01:39because it's a wonderful medium, a wonderful form of art,
01:42where the more you learn, you realize there is so much more to learn.
01:46So yeah, I hope I forever remain as astute a student as I am today.
01:51And yeah, if it seems like I am being seamlessly good
01:54at all these things that I do, I will take that as a huge compliment.
01:58It's always been a privilege to be able to be part of such an illustrious industry.
02:04And I am going to take the liberty of answering your second question as well.
02:07What I believe Malayalam cinema does differently from other industries.
02:11Since I am an actor who has had the privilege of working in multiple industries,
02:14I do think maybe one takeaway you could take from Malayalam cinema
02:20is the fact that we always do films and cinema with writers and writing as the fulcrum of it.
02:28You know, even Lucifer, even M. Puran, whatever cinema is happening in Malayalam,
02:34everything begins with the writer.
02:36The writer is who sets the project together.
02:39And that is how much power and respect we give our writers.
02:44Murali Gopi is the story screenplay and dialogue writer of this franchise.
02:50And I am privileged to be able to direct the content that is being written by someone
02:54who I believe is one of the finest writers of the country.
02:56So maybe that's something other industries can take a leaf out of.
02:59Maybe you should start asking yourself, why isn't there a Salim Javed today?
03:03You know, so...
03:06Hi.
03:07Okay.
03:08Hi, I am Tina Das.
03:09I work for The Print.
03:11First of all, I think I feel like I am in a candy shop
03:14because it's a great chance to meet all the people that I have been big fan of
03:18and to get it all in one stage.
03:20So, really excited about that and to watch the film.
03:23My first question is what you just mentioned about the section of the film,
03:26like a large portion of the film being in Hindi.
03:29I have seen that a lot of makers from different languages in South at this point,
03:34they are also trying to explore this market which is not just limited to a particular region.
03:39I mean, we saw for example in Pushpadu, there was a whole trailer launched back in Bihar
03:43which has a massive audience.
03:44I am from Assam and we have watched Malayalam movies.
03:47When I was growing up, like one of the things is we used to have segments on Sunday,
03:50different languages, all in Hindi unfortunately dubbed.
03:53Really badly dubbed unfortunately, but we would all watch it for the content.
03:58I want to know sir, when you were making it, like when the second part was coming out,
04:02was there like marketing strategies or thoughts in place
04:06that we would want to include this particular section which is now,
04:10like in the past five years, woken up to Malayalam content in a big, big way.
04:15Now, if you probably just ask somebody on the road, everybody will be like,
04:17yes, I have watched that Malayalam movie.
04:19Wasn't like that earlier.
04:21So, A, that was one question.
04:23The other thing is I have read multiple interviews where you have mentioned
04:26that you have always been a fanboy of Mohanlal sir.
04:29And I in fact read one where you said that it's actually harder for him
04:33because the fanboy comes out first and the director later.
04:36But now you are like two films old with him.
04:38So, what has been the change from the first to the second in this particular franchise?
04:43And have you now, has the fanboy decreased a little and the director comes first or is this same?
04:49So, I'll answer the second question first.
04:51Yeah, when I first directed him and I had the privilege of doing my first film with Mohanlal sir,
04:56I was a huge, huge fan and there were multiple moments where the fanboy in me indulged the director in me.
05:03But then I did a second and a third film and now I am an even bigger fan.
05:07So, yes, the fanboy in me is still very much awake and thrashing and I make no qualms about it.
05:13There are multiple times when I have let the fanboy in me indulge the director in me.
05:18But that's okay.
05:19I think I am a true Mohanlal fan.
05:22So, it's almost like I feel it's my responsibility to not have a bad shot of Mohanlal sir in my film.
05:29And I am first a fan of the actor that Mohanlal sir is.
05:33The fan of the star that Mohanlal sir is, is a distant secondary existence for me.
05:39So, that way I think I will always make sure that in my cinema I showcase him the way he truly deserves to the best of my capabilities.
05:48Secondly, this film or the whole world that this franchise exists in was first born as an idea somewhere in 2016, 2017,
05:58when I don't even think Bahubali 1 had released, I am not sure.
06:02So, terminologies like franchise, universe, sequel, prequel, part 1, part 2, chapter 1, chapter 2 and all were not in fashion back then.
06:12So, this is not a second installment of a franchise that is born out of the success of part 1.
06:17This was always designed to be three films.
06:20Having said that, the best quality about Mr. Murli Gopi's writing as far as these three films are concerned
06:26is that I believe that each of these three films will have an existence as a standalone film as well.
06:32So, I think for someone who is walking into a theatre to watch the second part that is Empuran,
06:37you will completely understand and relate to the film even if you have not seen part 1 of it.
06:43My hopes are that somebody who has seen this film and likes it will then want to go and discover the part 1 of it.
06:49But it is not going to be a case where you are going to watch this film and not understand the characters or plot if you have not seen part 1.
06:56And I would like to maintain that quality for the third part of this franchise as well.
06:59So, yeah, this is not a film that is born out of the newfound existence of the pan-India market.
07:06This was always ideated this way.
07:08Secondly, I really don't think a pan-Indian success can be designed.
07:12It has to organically happen.
07:13And how does it organically happen?
07:15Because you have a story that you want to say,
07:18you land on a method and a process through which you want to say that story,
07:21and then you be as honest as you can be with it.
07:24All the Hindi terrain dialogues, the English dialogues,
07:28the other languages that exist within this film are all part of it because the story organically travels like that.
07:34It was not me sitting with a pen and paper and deciding,
07:37let me have 30% of Hindi dialogues to 10% of Tamil dialogues.
07:41Let me cast one actor from there.
07:42Let me cast one actor from here.
07:43I haven't gone down that route.
07:45I'm going to trust my content and I'm going to trust the way I have made this film
07:49for it to find appeal across the country and across the world.
07:52And I hope my expectations are rightfully placed.
07:55We'll soon figure.
