00:00I mean, it may scare some young people because you take them to a metal concert and they've
00:05never experienced that kind of energy.
00:09And there's 60,000 people in the stadium and they're all, you know.
00:26My son, he's a musician.
00:27He's 15.
00:28He's going to be 16 tomorrow, actually, but he plays, you know, bass and he plays metal,
00:35but he also plays and writes hip hop music.
00:40So he loves hip hop, but he also loves metal.
00:43There are some kids that don't understand it.
00:45There are some kids that are like, oh, that's old people music or they don't know about
00:49real drums or real guitars or like, you know, but almost always when they hear a great black
00:56Sabbath song or a great Metallica song, you know, then they get it or if they see it,
01:04if they see it, a lot of it is actually seeing it, it's like, oh, wow, they're really playing
01:10their instruments.
01:11I mean, it may scare some young people because you take them to a metal concert and they've
01:16never experienced that kind of energy and there's 60,000 people in the stadium and they're
01:23all, you know, and you have to feel that special.
01:28You see all different types of people, you know, old, young, and it's not about politics
01:33or, you know, culturally, it's mixed.
01:36So it's pretty special.
01:43Sometimes the screaming, it doesn't really, I mean, it's just a matter of taste.
01:50Some of the screams, I don't always understand and some of them I do understand.
01:55So it becomes a choice of the listener.
01:58I went to a jazz school, you know, I went to, I studied jazz when I was 19 and I also
02:07grew up with a lot of soul music, flamenco and everything.
02:11When I was young, I was hearing all this.
02:14So I just like music for music.
02:16And I know a lot of musicians, like even Kirk, our guitar player, he grew up listening
02:21to a lot of kind of soul and funky music in San Francisco.
02:26So it depends on the individual.
02:30You can't just say, oh, these guys play metal.
02:34So therefore they only listen to this music.
02:36In some metal bands, the lyrics can be about, you know, witchcraft and Satan and stuff like
02:47that.
02:48It's interesting because with like Black Sabbath, which a lot of people wanted to believe was
02:53the ultimate sort of satanic band.
02:55They have some lyrics that may make you think that it's celebrating.
02:59It's actually not.
03:01It's telling you about the evils of war.
03:04You have to imagine some of these, these lyrics more like a movie, cinema.
03:15So it's cinematic.
03:16And then you hear the music and you look at the album cover and you kind of scare yourself.
03:21So it's not too much different than going to see a scary movie.
03:24Some people perceive it the wrong way.
03:27You know, I'm sure there are some bands, but not many that are like celebrating Satan,
03:33you know, in a positive way.
03:40Metal fans are very positive people.
03:44In this today, now, metal fans, you know, metal fans are doing yoga, they're vegan.
03:52Metal music for me has always been a release.
03:57So I think of it as therapeutic.
04:00It's like therapy.
04:01You listen to a good metal song and it can make you feel really good, make you feel happy.
04:08It can be inspiring.
04:09I've talked to people like trainers, you know, their gym and the gym and they're like,
04:14I listen to Metallica, man.
04:16You know, that workout to Metallica.
04:19The metal crowds are incredible.
04:21The energy is incredible.
04:22The power is incredible.
04:24And, you know, it's almost like tribal, you know, warriors.
04:30And that's the feeling that I think you actually can experience from a metal, a heavy metal concert.
04:36So I would advise people who've never experienced a great metal show, go check it out.
04:41I think they'll be impressed.
