Planting trees to fight climate change and biodiversity loss is the goal of Reforest'Action.

Brut Nature followed a team of volunteers out in the field. That day, they planted their 3 millionth tree.

00:00Hello, I'm Stéphane Allaire.
00:02Today, we're planting a forest,
00:04because it's the best solution against climate change
00:06and biodiversity erosion.
00:30This is where we're going to plant the 1,500 trees today.
00:34Here we are.
00:35We're going to take the plan bags,
00:37we're going to take the pickaxes.
00:38It's old-fashioned.
00:40And we're going to do it.
00:41So the chains, the famous chains,
00:44here they are.
00:45Let's go.
00:46It's very manual.
00:48The goal is to make a hole
00:50to insert the root.
00:52And the ultra-important tip,
00:54we tap.
00:55This is of crazy importance.
00:57So your heel
00:58becomes a tool.
01:00And here we go again.
01:12So we're in a forest,
01:14which used to be a rainforest,
01:15affected by a disease,
01:16calcareous.
01:17And it's quite emblematic
01:19of the challenges of the French forest,
01:21which is affected by diseases,
01:22storms, fires.
01:24And at the international level,
01:25we have to add to all this
01:27the deforestation that prevails
01:28throughout the intertropical zone.
01:30It is for all these reasons
01:31that it is important to preserve
01:32the primary forests
01:33and to replant forests
01:35all over the world.
01:57Hello Elodie.
01:58Hello.
01:59Is this your first time planting a tree?
02:00Uh, yes.
02:01This is my first time this morning.
02:02Yeah? Do you like it?
02:03Yes, I like it.
02:04I like seeing the concrete
02:05and seeing what it does.
02:06I decided to go plant it myself
02:07to see how it is doing in the field
02:09and to really know how it can act too.
02:11Well, you see,
02:12this morning we arrived
02:13and there was nothing.
02:15We're going to leave again this afternoon.
02:17There is going to be a forest
02:18to plant.
02:19I see.
02:20I'm going to plant.
02:21I'm going to plant.
02:22So, I'm going to plant here.
02:23I'm going to plant here.
02:24I'm going to plant here.
02:25I'm going to plant here.
02:26It's also through trees that nature will be able to survive,
02:30so I think it's a first reaction that is essential.
02:39For example, planting a forest of 5,000 trees throughout your life,
02:42it can be 5 trees per month,
02:44but planting 5,000 trees throughout your life,
02:46it allows you to compensate for these CO2 emissions,
02:49after of course reducing them,
02:51but it also allows you to strengthen biodiversity,
02:53to filter water, to retain soils
02:55and to create jobs.
02:57You can see behind me people planting
02:59both oak trees,
03:01as well as hazelnuts
03:03and hazelnuts.
03:04Because for reforestation,
03:06diversity in the forest is particularly important,
03:08because it allows the forest to better resist
03:11the hazards of climate change,
03:13such as droughts or frostbites.
03:26Reforestation was created in 2010,
03:28we are now 9 years old,
03:30and today we have planted our 3 millionth tree.
03:33I would like to say to all the people
03:35who decide to plant their forests,
03:36to be aware of the importance of their actions.
03:38What they do is obviously important
03:40for future generations,
03:41for the environment,
03:42but also for themselves,
03:43because planting trees
03:45is opening up a new way of life
03:47and it's a little bit of happiness.
