"I don't understand why anybody goes to all the trouble of running for president of the United States just to talk about what we really can't do and shouldn't fight for." Sen. Elizabeth Warren was blunt about fellow presidential candidates who threw cold water on progressive policies.

00:00I don't understand why anybody goes to all the trouble of running for president of the United States
00:05just to talk about what we really can't do and shouldn't fight for.
00:08I like it.
00:21Last year, Democrats flipped 40 Republican seats in the House,
00:27and not one of those 40 Democrats supported the policies of our frontrunners at center stage.
00:32Now, I share their progressive values, but I'm a little more pragmatic.
00:36Folks, we have a choice.
00:38We can go down the road that Senator Sanders and Senator Warren want to take us,
00:43with bad policies like Medicare for All, Free Everything, and impossible promises
00:49that'll turn off independent voters and get Trump re-elected.
00:53But the question is, why do we have to be so extreme?
00:56Why can't we just give everyone healthcare as a right and allow them to have choice?
01:00This notion that you're going to take private insurance away from 180 million Americans,
01:05who many of them don't want to give it, many of them do want to get rid of it, but some don't, many don't.
01:09Or you're going to, the Green New Deal, make sure that every American is guaranteed a government job that they want.
01:15That is a disaster at the ballot box. You might as well FedEx the election to Donald Trump.
01:20So I think Democrats win when we run on real solutions, not impossible promises.
01:25When we run on things that are workable, not fairytale economics.
01:28Why isn't this sweeping plan to fight the climate crisis realistic?
01:32Well, first of all, because it ties its progress to other things that are completely unrelated to climate,
01:37like universal healthcare, guaranteed government jobs, and universal basic income.
01:41So that only makes it harder to do.
01:43I think the wealth tax will be fought in court forever.
01:46It's arguably unconstitutional, and the countries that have had it have largely abandoned it
01:51because it's impossible to implement.
01:53But here again, real solutions, not impossible promises.
01:56You're going to hear a lot of promises up here, but I'm going to tell you this.
02:00Yes, I have bold ideas, but they are grounded in reality.
02:03I think the guarantee for a public job for everyone who wants one is a classic part of the problem.
02:09It's a distraction.
02:10I think if we're going to force Americans to make these radical changes, they're not going to go along.
02:15Throw your hands up.
