Bernie Sanders Endorses Kamala Harris and Outlines Progressive Agenda at DNC

  • last month
When Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee for President in July after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, nearly the entire party quickly came together to endorse her campaign. But the Vermont independent senator who caucuses with the Democrats, Bernie Sanders, said at the time that he was not ready to do so.
But on Tuesday night in Chicago, the 82-year-old self-described democratic socialist and former 2020 primary rival of Biden and Harris reiterated his full support and encouraged his supporters to vote for the Democratic ticket.

00:00Senator Bernie Sanders.
00:02It is an honor to be with you tonight because we're laying the groundwork for Kamala Harris
00:15to become our next president.
00:20I look forward to working with Kamala and Tim to pass this agenda.
00:28And let us be very clear, this is not a radical agenda.
00:38But let me tell you what a radical agenda is.
00:45And that is Trump's Project 2025.
00:52At a time of massive income and wealth inequality, giving more tax breaks to billionaires is
01:00radical.
01:02Putting forth budgets to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid is radical.
01:10Letting polluters destroy our planet is radical.
01:17And my friends, we won't let that happen.
01:22In the last three and a half years working together, we have accomplished more than any
01:32government since FDR.
01:40But much, much more remains to be done.
01:46We must summon the courage to stand up to wealth and power and deliver justice for people
01:55at home and abroad.
02:00Abroad.
02:04We must end this horrific war in Gaza, bring home the hostages, and demand an immediate
02:21ceasefire at home, at home right here.
02:29We must take on Big Pharma, Big Oil, Big Ag, Big Tech, and all the other corporate
02:41monopolists whose greed is denying progress for working people.
02:51On November 5th, let us elect Kamala Harris as our president and let us go forward to
03:00create the nation we know we can become.
03:05Thank you all very much.
