00:30It has treated over 5,000 cases of sick and injured elephants.
00:56The Sons of the Asian Elephant also does a lot of awareness around elephant nutrition,
01:02educating other veterinary practitioners on how to look after sick and injured elephants
01:09and raising awareness for Asian elephants in general.
01:28Human-elephant conflict, poaching and capture and loss of natural habitats are some of the
01:35threats that are facing Asian elephants. Asian elephants have had a 95% decrease in natural
01:44habitat and a 90% population decline over the last 100 years. They are a keystone species.
01:52This means that they also impact biodiversity and we need to ensure their safe future,
02:00not just for them but for the ecosystem in which they live in.
02:22Friends of the Asian Elephant is home to a number of inpatients. These permanent residents include
02:28Bunmi, Matala and Mosha and these three elephants sadly all have lost part of their foot
02:36due to landmine explosions.
02:48We need to come together globally to do all we can to ensure elephants have a safe future on our
02:54planet and we're really grateful that there are these amazing organisations out there such as
02:59Friends of the Asian Elephant who look after sick and injured elephants.
