00:00We have never seen a planet like this.
00:04The United States must lead the world with a global approach which emphasizes the Green New Deal.
00:20For the first time in human history, we have reached atmospheric levels of carbon
00:28at 415 parts per million. This has never been seen in recorded human history.
00:36The last time our planet hit 415 was in the Pleistocene period. Oceans were 90 feet higher.
00:45Bacteria and diseases we have never seen before roamed the earth. Humans did not exist.
00:53Unlike the President of the United States, you know that climate change is not a hoax
01:03but is an existential threat to our country and the entire planet. And you are prepared
01:11to stand up and fight back. Thank you.
01:14So often, you know, when folks, particularly conservatives on both sides of the aisle, say
01:24when they say that calling for a Green New Deal is, quote, too much or too extreme or too radical.
01:39No middle ground is right. But I'm always curious when they say that, oh, it's too much.
01:43What do they actually mean by that? Is 100% clean and renewable energy too much?
01:51No.
01:52Is fighting for dignified jobs that pay people enough to live too much?
01:57No.
01:59Is proposing a solution on the scale of the climate crisis to solve it too much?
02:06No.
02:07Now, this is what a corrupt political system is about. In the last decade alone,
02:16the oil and gas industry has pumped more than $700 million worth of campaign contributions
02:26into federal, state, and local elections.
02:31During that same period, they spent more than $1.5 billion lobbying Washington.
02:41And this is what we are up against.
02:48And I will be damned if the same politicians who refused to act then are going to try to
02:55come back today and say we need a middle of the road approach to save our lives.
02:59That is too much for me.
