Region loved Coast Fest, a music festival set in North Shields is returning for Summer 2025 with a fantastic line up of both local and international artists.
Transcript
00:00Once again championing new original music, Coastfest will showcase the best live acts
00:05the region has to offer, alongside national touring artists and an outdoor festival experience
00:10in the heart of the beautiful coastline of North Shields.
00:13In 2024, the festival was made fully family-friendly with both adults and children's tickets available,
00:19with added attractions and activities for both adults and kids alike, making Coastfest
00:23more interactive, exciting and also affordable.
00:27I spoke with John, the organiser of this region-loved event.
00:30So my name's John Peacock, I am the founder of Coastfest. I've been putting on gigs for
00:34about 20 years and a couple of years ago we found it was the time that we were going to
00:38put on our own music festival in the heart of North Shields and the whole community is
00:42now involved and yeah, we're looking forward to going into our third year.
00:45Okay, so this year's line-up is predominantly made of loads and loads of local talent because
00:51there's plenty of it around and what we try and do is we try to give the local talent
00:54a chance to play on a big stage in an outdoor festival environment alongside the national
01:00touring headliners and on the Friday night we've got Laidback Luke, I don't know how
01:04I've managed to do that but he's coming across from Holland, big international DJ.
01:08On the Saturday we have Liam Fender and Glas Vegas are headlining, big Scottish band, superb
01:15live, one of the best festival bands I've ever seen.
01:17And then on the Sunday we've got the legendary Lindisfarne Story Band who are from the local
01:21area and they've always really helped us out through different mediums like Sunday
01:25for Sammy, a lot of the guys in Lindisfarne Story are involved in that so they help us
01:30out each year and yeah, we're really looking forward to having those on the Sunday.
01:33So yeah, great line-up, really looking forward to it.
01:35It's great for families because what we try to do is, so the first year we did it with
01:39just the adults and it was great, it was fantastic but we thought in the second year it's about
01:43time that we allowed them to bring their families along so we've put up together almost like
01:48a young person's village where they can do music workshops, they can make tote bags,
01:53festival posters and all sorts of different activities all run by volunteers, the whole
01:57festival is run by volunteers.
02:00So yeah, it's a really, really good chance to bring the kids along, you can enjoy the
02:04music, the kids can enjoy the music and then it can get stuck into all these different
02:08activities and yeah, it's great, works really well.
02:11It's good for the local area because it just shines a spotlight on North Shields and the
02:15brilliant music and the brilliant talent that we have here.
02:19Being from up north, it's sometimes a bit difficult to get the exposure of what you'd
02:22like as an artist so for us to be in a position where we can put on a festival like we do
02:29just gives the artist a chance to really showcase what they do in front of a wider audience
02:34and we always invite all the industry folk along as well and they're starting to come
02:39along each year so it's, yeah, just getting the artist out in front of people and playing
02:44that music and just having a really great day.
02:47Okay, so the event is at Percy Park Rugby Club and it runs between the 27th and 29th
02:52of June.
02:53If you want to come along, you just pop along to wegottickets.com forward slash coastfest
02:57and yeah, it's something for everybody to enjoy.
