00:00The Presidential Communications Office is urging for stricter regulations on social media platforms in the Philippines.

00:36The Presidential Communications Office urged for stricter regulations on social media platforms in the Philippines.

00:44According to PCO Secretary Jay Ruiz,

00:46for fake news and other online misdeeds to be included,

00:50it is important for the government to implement new policies.

00:54Our countrymen need to be protected from cybercrime.

00:58That's why we need to look at the issue.

01:01He urged the Congress to form new committees on the issue.

01:06According to PCO, Ruiz assured that they are already taking action.

01:11It is better if the PCO collaborates with the Department of Justice

01:16and the Department of Information and Communications Technology on this issue.

01:21The issue of fake news, illegal gambling, deep fakes, pornography, hate speech

01:31is the biggest fight right now of our generation.

01:37and we have to protect our children not only from fake news

01:42but all these bad things that we see in this technology platform that we have.

01:49But more on the bloggers, we should concentrate our regulation on the platforms.

01:56The platforms like Meta, TikTok, YouTube are foreign platforms.

02:04They do not have a base here.

02:07When you complain for these posts that we can take down, it takes a long time.

02:15So we have to focus on the platforms, first of all, to self-regulate them.

02:21Secretary Ruiz said that fake news and disinformation are already spreading.

02:29He also said that we should not be the only one fighting against fake news.
