00:00Disney's live-action Snow White finally hits theaters this weekend, and the reviews so
00:13far are decidedly mixed.
00:15Here's what the critics are saying about the film starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
00:19A number of the reviews are quite positive.
00:21The Hollywood Reporter's chief film critic David Rooney commented on the controversies
00:25that have surrounded the film in his review, writing,
00:28None of that background noise matters in Mark Webb's vibrant retelling from a smart
00:31script that reshapes a story about a princess dreaming of her knight in shining armor into
00:36one in which she finds the courage to be a leader capable of following in her noble father's
00:40footsteps.
00:41IndieWire's Kate Erblund wrote,
00:43This is a spirited and sweet spin on classic material that deserves kudos for its balance
00:47of necessary updates and affection for the old ways.
00:51Mostly it's a reminder of what's actually worth considering and critiquing, the final
00:55product.
00:56This one is good.
00:57And USA Today movie critic Brian Truitt said,
01:00Not only does the new Snow White avoid being the poison apple of Disney live-action redos,
01:04it actually manages to put some extra musical mojo on a ubiquitous fairy tale.
01:09But some reviews weren't so kind.
01:11In his review, Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian called the film,
01:14A pointless new live-action musical version of the Snow White myth, a kind of unwicked
01:18approach to the story, and a merch-enabling money machine.
01:21And said Zegler and Godot give, quote, the dullest performances of their lives.
01:26The Wall Street Journal's Kyle Smith wrote,
01:28Unfortunately, the story is so dopey, it made me sleepy.
01:31And David Feer with Rolling Stones said,
01:33The whole thing feels so bland and perfunctory to a fault that it's surprising to think this
01:37was the movie that caused such an uproar for nearly two years and a dozen news cycles.
