00:00The Dubawi sire line is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with and stallion farms across
00:07Europe all seem keen to have a son of the champion sire in their shed.
00:11Michail Orlandi has recently welcomed a Dubawi legend to his County Neath base and he has
00:16also got King of Change, a Group 1 winning son of Fard, joining his roster this year.
00:21Michail tells us about both stallions.
00:23Dubawi legend, we're delighted to have him.
00:26It's a great honour to stand a son of Dubawi who was a champion European stallion this
00:29year and obviously as we've seen with sons of Dubawi in the shape of New Bay, Night of
00:35Tundra, Zarak etc that he's proven to be a sire of sires and Dubawi legend has a lot
00:42of attributes we like.
00:43He arrived in good condition, great condition from Hugo Palmers, he arrived in the new year
00:46and look he's a very straightforward, great temperament, great mind, I suppose typical
00:51of Dubawis.
00:53He's taken to life a star field very well, he walks around all day every day and yeah
00:57he eats up and he tries and we're delighted with him now and fingers crossed all go well
01:03in the covering shed but look we have no reason to think otherwise.
01:07Obviously we're a bit late to the market with him but that's not stopping the interest.
01:10At this kind of level it's not like people sign contracts months in advance to book the
01:14mare in as the season progresses but saying all that, the most mares we've covered a stallion
01:20was far above in his first season when we did over 140 and judging the traction we have
01:25with him compared to the traction we have with Dubawi Legend I would envisage that Dubawi
01:29Legend would cover that number if not more.
01:31He's the most popular stallion we've ever retired a stud and he's brought in not just
01:36our current kind of clientele have really liked him but there's kind of new breeders
01:39coming that have never used a stallion or star field before, Compass Stallions and he's
01:44going down very well.
01:45He's got the breeding rights sold exceptionally well and look he's the most popular stallion
01:48we've stud.
01:49He was a top class two-year-old, he was second highest rated two-year-old in Europe of his
01:53year.
01:54He was pipped to being championed two-year-old by Native Trail who bet him in the Dewhurst.
01:59The Dewhurst as we look is a very good stallion making race and that race he finished ahead
02:02of Bayside Boy who's gone studding by Lynch this year and you know he was a heavily touted
02:08hearse by Hugo and his team, I knew they thought he was a top class hearse and he's proven
02:11as a two-year-old.
02:12His trio campaign might not have gone to plan but saying that he still showed a lot of speed
02:16in coming third to Minzal and then winning the group three in Germany and so of the form
02:22we're looking for form, looking for speed.
02:24He's ran enough to show that he's sound and he's consistent, he's retired sound of wind
02:27and clean of limbed.
02:28He's a great size, 16 hands, he's not overly big, he's not overly small, he's got great
02:32limbs on him, he's a great colour, he's a dark bay, he's no white on him and that might
02:37not sound relevant but it is to some breeders.
02:39He's a very good action hearse, he's a good walk, good use of himself, lovely gaskin,
02:43lovely head, big eye and big ear and he's just, I think he could, we're sending him
02:48a collection of mares, we won't know to what he throws on the ground, what he'll actually
02:52throw when it comes to the foals.
02:55He comes from different style lines, some might say we're cornering the far market or
02:58the pivotal line market, we also have far above here but King of Change is probably
03:02Far's leading son, he was second to Guineas, he won the Queen Elizabeth stakes at Ascot
03:07and as you've seen, he's a beautiful, big, imposing individual, again with a fantastic
03:11walk and he spent two seasons at Durnastown, he's now with us, we're delighted to have
03:15him.
03:16He's a stallion prospect that we inquired about when he retired to stud, wasn't to be
03:21but he's here now and we're happy to have him.
03:24He's proven very popular with breeders again and he is probably one of the greatest value
03:30stallions on the market, when you look at his race record, he has a super pedigree too
03:35and as we've seen with Sione and so on, Pivotal has proven to be a great sire of sires and
03:41we're hoping the same with Far, we've taken a bet on two of them now.
03:44It's going really well, to be honest, we're still in business and I suppose that's the
03:48trick to say afloat.
03:50We took a view that we're good at standing stallions and we've built Starfield Stud
03:55here and so we've taken a long term view that we can hopefully stand stallions successfully
04:02and that doesn't just mean that we make a business out of it but actually we come across
04:07successful stallions that can have an impact on the breed forever more.
