00:00About the arson and violence that erupted in Nagpur late last night those situation is under control now
00:05But a full-on political showdown has erupted Maharashtra's opposition is claiming
00:09That Mahayati the ruling party and the government are deliberately fanning the communal right
00:15Udhav Sena says the plot is to make Maharashtra
00:20anti-business
00:21Udhav Sena is adding the bid is to make Maharashtra lose the business viability
00:26Udhav Sena leaders are adding that the chief minister Parnavis is helping neighbor states here
00:32so this is a charge that has come in from the Mahavikasagari leaders against the
00:39Mahayati the ruling party about if you have such situation in Nagpur in Maharashtra
00:45The business aspects will be affected
00:56Thank you for the latest on that. Ritwik tell us more about what the political showdown has been
01:05What is the administration doing about it? Why does the Udhav Sena say this is anti-business?
01:13Late night yesterday
01:15CM Devendra Parnavis was holding up meetings and he was in constant touch with
01:21Nagpur Commissioner of Police and
01:24The
01:26Officials of Maharashtra, but at the same time in the ongoing
01:31Maharashtra's budget session
01:33CM Devendra Parnavis is going to reply today on the
01:37incident which happened in Nagpur yesterday after the protest of Bajrang Dal and
01:43Vishwa Hindu Parishad
01:46Opposition
01:48UBT Sena is now alleging that is the government who is provoking
01:53and
01:54communal tensions in the state and
01:57they want to divert the attention from the
02:01core issues like unemployment and inflation
02:04We have to see that today's Maharashtra's budget session
02:09where there will be a showdown between opposition and voting alliance as
02:14CM Devendra Parnavis will be
02:17Replying on the incident. We need to see how
02:20Opposition alliance will be targeting the government today. Keep tracking the latest on that
02:25Rithvik because as we stay on with these visuals Rithvik, I do want to know also right now that
02:32Administration plans if did they not anticipate this could turn violent in Nagpur. What is the situation looking like right now?
02:43We saw police was doing bombing operation. They were trying to identify the miscreant
02:51Holding search operations in and around the area where the incident took place
02:57especially the Maharashtra area of Nagpur where the violence was incited and
03:03they are trying to
03:05hold up all the miscreants and they are identifying
03:10Through the CCTV footages and the video clips, which they have gathered from multiple sources. So
03:18after
03:20after nabbing all the miscreants of the investigation and the probe will be off and
03:25What was the real reason for inciting such a violence will be interrogated from the miscreants and then?
03:33Government will be replying in the Maharashtra budget session today
03:36All right
03:37Rithvik will be tracking the latest on that Uddhav Sena says this is a bid to disturb the atmosphere the business atmosphere
03:43Of cities like Mumbai and Nagpur this will affect the opportunities coming in
03:48in fact such behavior encourages the
03:51Opportunities to shift to neighbor neighbor states and therefore this is deliberate fanning of riots
03:57Maha, Mahavikas, the opposition is charging at Mahayati saying they are deliberately fanning communal clashes

04:14Arson violence property damage heavy stone pelting was reported late last night in Nagpur the violence erupted
04:20Following a dispute between two communities and led to a full-on communal clash
04:25Vandalism arson that went on for hours at least 60 writers allegedly have so far been arrested by the cops
04:31But what the what we are seeing the visuals that are coming in it's it's basically
04:37It's a reminder of the kind of horrifying scenes that happened in Nagpur several vehicles set on fire
04:43Stone pelting added to the kiosk we are told even the few police personnel who were deployed
04:49faced
04:50Violence and were injured the police had to resort to tear gas and lathi charge to disperse these arsonists
04:56During the clashes several police personnel were also injured then we also spoke to eyewitnesses
05:02This is very important according to eyewitnesses speaking to India today
05:06They say sharp weapons were with those individuals with the writers
05:11they had covered their face with scarves the writers carried sticks and stones and does that mean that this was in many ways a
05:19pre-planned violence
05:20Curfew has been imposed in ten areas across Nagpur
05:23Remember earlier in the day Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had issued a very clear warning that those found glorifying
05:31Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb who's known for his documented brutalities those individuals will not be spared
05:37but the opposition is taking aim at the Mahayati government saying law and order is a complete failure in the state and
05:43Real issues are not being addressed
05:45The entire team came and covered their faces with swords, sticks and bottles
05:52Then they started creating a ruckus in every corner
05:56Along with creating a ruckus they started breaking people's shutters, breaking their houses, throwing stones
06:03Along with throwing stones people started pulling cars and started breaking them
06:09Along with throwing stones people started pulling cars and started breaking them
06:15And the entire Muslim community was shouting
06:18They had swords in their hands and they broke them with swords
06:22They broke everything with swords and the windows and windows were broken
06:27They gathered cars and set them on fire
06:31They set 8-10 cars on fire and set them on fire
06:34They started creating a ruckus from 10 in the morning
06:39I got a phone call from here
06:42I called the PI Sanjay Singh but he didn't respond
06:47Then I called the MLA and later I called Mr. Singh
06:56They started creating a ruckus in every corner
07:01They broke people's shutters, set their cars on fire and started creating a ruckus
07:07Two groups were protesting in the last square
07:12The police was protecting them and the police told them to leave
07:17When the police put more pressure on them, they sat in their cars and crossed the streets
07:24They threw big stones and caused a lot of damage to the cars
07:29The local people came from outside and they wanted to create a ruckus
07:40The situation is calm now
07:42A photo was taken and people gathered
07:46They requested us and we took action
07:51The delegation came to meet me in the office
07:56They were told that we have filed an FIR
08:01We will take action against them
08:03This incident happened around 8.30pm
08:07We will start after that
08:09We will arrest all the people involved in this
08:14We have filed an FIR and told everyone not to come out
08:22and not to take any law into their own hands
08:45We were burning Aurangzeb's effigy
08:47We were telling about how Hindu groups have been protesting against Aurangzeb
08:52against Aurangzeb's tomb in Sambhaji Nagar district
08:55and were burning the Mughal Emperor's effigy
08:58Symbolic protests that were on
09:00Effigy burning spread a certain rumour
09:03A rumour that was spread among the members of the Muslim community
09:08that then led to a certain conflict
09:12It was that rumour, that misinformation that was spread
09:16about what was being burned in that gathering
09:19in that symbolic protest of which we have the visuals on the screen
09:22which was an Aurangzeb effigy
09:24By 5-7pm, then we are told
09:27as you can see all on your screens
09:29It appeared that some Muslim youths start to gather by evening
09:34They start shouting communal provocative slogans
09:37and then it turned into a full-fledged mob
09:40They start pelting stones
09:42even at the cops, the few cops who were deployed
09:44Remember, not in large numbers
09:46and therefore the cops also were very clearly seen having suffered injuries
09:50Violence erupted in Nagpur full on by 7.30pm
09:54So I reiterate what happened
09:55Afternoon, you see the visual all on your screen
09:57This is what we are putting out
09:58This is not conjecture
10:00In the afternoon, a protest is on
10:02Emperor Aurangzeb's effigies are being burned
10:04Symbolic protest, they don't want Aurangzeb's tomb
10:06They want it to be removed from Sambhaji Nagar
10:08Sambhaji Nagar is happening by afternoon
10:10A rumour is spread among the Muslim community
10:12about something is being burnt
10:14Some rumour, some misinformation
10:16and that led to Muslim youth gathering
10:19shouting slogans and mob pelting
10:21full on, then communal clash erupts
10:24This is the information coming in from on the ground
10:26Let's listen in to more reactions on the ground
10:29Ritwik Bhalekar also joins me meanwhile
10:32and our colleagues are on the ground in Nagpur
10:34to a certain situation on this
10:37Ritwik, you tell me now
10:39because this looks like
10:41that there was definitely rumour mongering
10:43misinformation
10:45that led to
10:47look at how bricks are being thrown at the cars
10:50stone pelting, angry youth
10:52I see some of them with face covered
10:58Since yesterday morning
11:01the protests were on
11:03It was from the
11:05Vishwa Hindi Parishad as well as
11:07Bajranggarh
11:09The protests were called across the state
11:12and it was not just Nagpur
11:15but several cities
11:17where these protests were
11:19took place and
11:21at the same time they were
11:23given slogans against Avarangzeb
11:25they were demanding removal of Avarangzeb's tomb
11:28They were also burning effigies
11:30and photos of Avarangzeb
11:32There were certain things
11:34which were burned in Nagpur
11:36with the photos of Avarangzeb
11:38and the videos of which got circulated
11:40on social media
11:42which led to rumour mongering
11:44and then a huge crowd
11:46gathered on the streets
11:48from both the sides
11:50there were tensions
11:52and then violence was incited
11:54stones were pelted
11:56cars were burned
11:58and within no time the situation
12:00went berserk
12:02and then police
12:04was deployed
12:06additional forces were deployed
12:08is what is being gathered
12:10as a primary information
12:12but at the same time
12:14those miscreants were from the area
12:16or they were coming
12:18somewhere from outside
12:20is what needs to be investigated
12:22that's what the local
12:24MLA Praveen Datke
12:26has been saying
12:28he is doing his investigation
12:30the combing operation is on
12:32in and around the area where the violence took place
12:34there is no justification
12:36for mob violence in civilized societies
12:38in residential areas
12:40think of the families
12:42women and children huddled in their houses
12:44when such mob came out on the streets
12:46full on pelting
12:48full on insuring that public property
12:50why are they targeting breaking these vehicles
12:52throwing stones and bricks
12:54they clearly come with
12:56the attempt of aggression
12:58after a rumor that was spread
13:00and importantly what was the administration doing
13:02did the administration not realize
13:04not intercept that there could be such
13:06communal violence on the ground
13:08let's go on the ground
13:10Sumi has been consistently tracking
13:12and getting us eye witness accounts
13:14Sumi first take us through what the morning looks like
13:16I have the visuals on the screen
13:18we are playing right now
13:20where the violence is on the cars
13:22on people all of that
13:24what is this morning looking like in Nagpur
13:26what is your understanding
13:28what are the locals telling you
13:34yes this particular morning
13:36we are witnessing that the situation is under control
13:38and right now life is moving
13:40towards a normalcy
13:42people are moving from point to point
13:44for their daily routines
13:46however the police teams
13:48have also been placed at several points
13:50across Nagpur
13:52the police deployments are now
13:54being placed at several corners
13:56just to keep this law and order
13:58intact but this unrest began
14:00yesterday evening between
14:027.30 to 9.30
14:04where heavy stone pelting, arson and demonstration
14:06all of it happened all together
14:08and situation went haywire
14:10and the real victims
14:12here are the common people
14:14whose properties have been
14:16damaged heavily and in fact
14:18we had also seen and we had also shown
14:20several accounts of such people
14:22who have been now crying over
14:24the fact that how they huddled inside
14:26their houses and how they were fearing
14:28for their lives amid the violence
14:30that took place following
14:32the demonstration demanding the removal
14:34of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's tomb
14:36and this key demonstration that
14:38happened yesterday afternoon
14:40that quickly escalated and yesterday
14:42we saw these violent clashes
14:44taking over this peaceful city
14:46of Nagpur in which at least
14:48more than 20 police personnel
14:50have also been injured and they
14:52have also received severe injuries
14:54and now they are getting their treatments
14:56at the nearby hospitals as well
14:58and section 163 has also been
15:00imposed under the BNS
15:02and in fact this particular crane
15:04that you are looking at, this is the JCB
15:06that was placed here, that was parked
15:08in the middle of the road that again
15:10was on the receiving end of the arson
15:12you see the tyres have been punctured
15:14and the entire JCB
15:16was set ablaze with petrol bombs
15:18is what the locals have been believing
15:20that they had, the mob had come
15:22with a lot of preparation, they had
15:24a sack full of bricks, cobblestones
15:26and concrete bricks that are usually
15:28used for pavement construction
15:30these were huge stones
15:32that were pelted at several houses
15:34that people who were
15:36inside the houses also became
15:38on the receiving end of such vehicles
15:40and right now we are seeing these combing
15:42operations constantly taking
15:44place across Nagpur
15:46let me tell you which jurisdictions
15:48which areas have been heavily impacted
15:50because of yesterday's violence
15:52and in fact the multiple poorest jurisdictions
15:54that were affected includes Kotwali
15:56Ganeshpeet, Lakharganj
15:58and Pachpauli and also Shanti
16:00Nagar, Nandanwan, Imam Wada
16:02and all these sensitive areas
16:04also received the
16:06you know the
16:08impact of the violence
16:10you see the kind of impact
16:12Nagpur city has received, remember
16:14this city has a very peaceful history of
16:16communal harmony however
16:18yesterday because of a lot of information
16:20that floated across whatsapp groups
16:22the violence took place around
16:247.30 to 9.30 following
16:26which Maharashtra Chief Minister
16:28Devendra Fadnavis and also
16:30Union Minister Nitin Gadkari
16:32also appealed to the public urging
16:34them to maintain calm and
16:36not fall for the misinformation
16:38that is right now floating around
16:40So what is the status?
16:42Its not just about bringing the situation
16:44under control, I want to know
16:46what Nagpur administration
16:48and its police are doing to ensure
16:50those who indulged in the violence
16:52yesterday are brought to book
16:54have they been taken in custody, there is enough
16:56CCTV visual, enough evidence coming
16:58in, what is the administration doing about it?
17:06The administration is also telling us that
17:08several CCTV cameras were broken
17:10which again indicates that
17:12it was well conspired and
17:14well ahead planned of
17:16this particular violence and in fact so far
17:1847 people have
17:20been detained and constantly interrogated
17:22and in fact yesterday the whole
17:24night the interrogations have
17:26taken place, we also had a word with
17:28Ravindra Singhal the commissioner who stated
17:30that more than 17 people have been arrested
17:32and in fact 47 have been
17:34detained so far and a lot of
17:36CCTV footages from in and around the area
17:38are being collected and constantly
17:40analysed and on the basis of the witnesses
17:42on the basis of the
17:44accounts of several witnesses, several
17:46people are being picked up
17:48they are being identified through several CCTV
17:50cameras and they have been picked up
17:52interrogations are taking place and it is
17:54possible, it is certainly possible that more and more
17:56people will be picked up, in fact
17:58the number of detention and the number
18:00of people getting arrested will escalate
18:02but the way the situation
18:04was handled certainly is under a lot
18:06of scrutiny because we had also seen
18:08Praveen Datke, the BJP MLA
18:10admitting that there was a negligence by
18:12the administration, what they were doing
18:14the kind of
18:16vigilance that was needed at that particular
18:18hour, the quick reaction team however
18:20the SRPF were placed right
18:22after the violence broke out
18:24but the time they reached and
18:26the entire damage had taken place
18:28already, more than 20
18:30vehicles were set ablaze
18:32and in fact they were torched
18:34and many people were huddled inside
18:36their houses fearing for
18:38their life, administration was
18:40not there in enough numbers to make sure
18:42that law and order
18:44doesn't deteriorate, however
18:46that particular negligence has been admitted
18:48by the BJP MLA
18:50The ground update that you are sharing
18:52with us, I see the visuals on your screen
18:54these are proper residential
18:56areas, where peaceful
18:58families are just living their life
19:00Just imagine mob right on your
19:02doorstep and mob of
19:04this aggressive nature, if they
19:06can damage vehicles and properties
19:08burn it, lead to arson
19:10they clearly come with an aggressive mind
19:12what worse could happen and
19:14thankfully the situation eventually was brought under
19:16control but why did this clash happen
19:18in the first place, why did the mob
19:20manage to congregate, what were the
19:22investigators, agencies, the
19:24police, the administration doing on the ground
19:26Sumi stay on with me
19:28because here for the viewer tuning in
19:30this morning, what unfolded
19:32in Nagpur was not just
19:34worrisome but it raises a lot of questions
19:36for a city otherwise so peaceful
19:38and now turning into a political showdown
19:40the government of the state
19:42has said anyone seen glorifying
19:44Aurangzeb will be
19:46brought to the book, will not be spared
19:48Mahavikasagari, the opposition
19:50leaders are saying, this is deliberate
19:52fanning of riots by the government
19:54they want to take away business from Maharashtra
19:56let's listen into all the reactions

24:40The BJP government should follow the rules of the law.
24:42In Maharashtra, there are some hateful people of the BJP who have been inciting hatred throughout the day.
24:49We have always told the Chief Minister to stop such people.
24:55Today, the fire of hatred has spread to this extent.
24:57Now see, who gave them permission to go and protest here?
25:00The BJP government has distracted attention from all issues with a 400-year-old orange bag.
25:06And now it has come to this extent that hatred has spread to this extent.
25:09Do you want there to be no violence?
25:39Do you see that the situation is under control?
25:41But is it only because possibly there's deployment now?
25:44But the arsonists have done their bit.
25:46People in fear.
25:56Can you hear me?
25:57Sumi, you're on the ground. Look at that.
25:59Look at the shop completely charred and burnt that Sumi is bringing to us.
26:04And these are, remember, reflections of how the boards that have been damaged,
26:08vehicles that have been burnt.
26:10Sumi, if you can hear me, go ahead.
26:12Give us a 360-degree view as much as possible to show us what these localities are looking like.
26:22Yes, absolutely.
26:23We're right now at the epicenter from where the violence broke out and sporadically went to various nooks and crannies of Nagpur.
26:30Right now, we are here at the Mahal area.
26:33And here, we were also talking to the restauranteur whose entire restaurant has been broken is what he was maintaining constantly.
26:40And he was, in fact, weeping.
26:42He was wailing about that very fact that how his entire property has received the damage.
26:47And, in fact, he also urged the politicians to not do politics over it
26:51and rather to ensure that proper compensation is given to those who have been on the receiving end of this particular unrest that took place yesterday.
27:00We see a lot of heavy deployment of the police personnel here.
27:03And Praveen Dutkhe, the BJP MLA, is also here taking several rounds and also talking to a lot of people.
27:10Praveen ji, welcome to India Today.
27:13You have been taking rounds here since morning and talking to people.
27:16The administration has made such a big mistake.
27:19When you knew that such a demonstration was taking place, you should have put the administration in large numbers.
27:23Ma'am, it is not right for me to speak on the administration today because I was not here yesterday.
27:27But I am taking information.
27:29I have seen that the administration of this area has been very well controlled.
27:34I have spoken to the citizens.
27:36But the area of Hansapuri, Bhagwagar, Geetanjali Talkies, Sehwag Sadan Sahu,
27:41I feel that the administration has failed there.
27:46I am going to demand compensation for that.
27:48People are being picked up on the basis of CCTV footage.
27:52But the life, the tension that has come here in Nagpur, will that tension remain?
27:56The tension will remain, ma'am.
27:58Because the use of illiterate language yesterday,
28:01when you entered people's houses,
28:03the house where you had gone,
28:05there was an attempt to put petrol bombs on the legs of a 90-year-old woman.
28:07So the tension will remain.
28:09The tension should be reduced.
28:11The ground should be clean.
28:12That is why we will try our best.
28:14But if this happens from one side, then it will not work.
28:17We are on the side of investigation.
28:19We are on the side of justice.
28:21All these police officers, DCP's, three DCP's.
28:24Four DCP's.
28:26ACP's.
28:28The house where the petrol bombs were put,
28:30the women of that house have put a bandage on them.
28:33Even the Hindus are tolerant.
28:35But we will not tolerate if this happens again and again.
28:38And this is well planned.
28:40The road on which we are standing,
28:42whenever I talk to you,
28:44there are Hindu-Muslim cars on both sides.
28:46The cars are of Jalissi Hindus.
28:48That is why I feel that this is well planned.
28:50We should not do politics on this.
28:52But the compensation should be given.
28:55The compensation should be given.
28:57Will the administration give compensation?
29:00I will request Mr. Devin.
29:02I have faith in him.
29:04Those who have really suffered a huge loss,
29:06whose cars have been burnt,
29:08whose two wheelers have been burnt,
29:10who have been injured,
29:12whose houses have been burnt,
29:14whose hospitals have not been left.
29:16The government should give compensation to all of them.
29:19I will ask for it according to the rules.
29:21Absolutely.
29:23The compensation is being demanded by Praveen Dutty.
29:26He is also admitting that there was negligence at several localities.
29:29However, the mainstream areas in the Mahal,
29:32in the Mahal locality,
29:34where this entire flyover is under construction,
29:37this particular area had enough police contingency presence,
29:40which is why the violence did not spread across several areas
29:45where it could have been
29:47if there wasn't enough SRPF and quick reaction team personnel there.
29:52In fact, right now, we are also witnessing the barricades that have been put in place.
29:56And remember, section 163 of BNS has also been put in place.
30:00And in fact, assembly of any four people is not allowed.
30:03The life is slowly inching towards normalcy.
30:06However, there is a lot of tension and mental stress
30:09that the people of this particular locality have been going through.
30:12These voices, Sumi, the eyewitness accounts,
30:15what the politicians are saying,
30:17and importantly, the understanding on the ground
30:20of what the families who saw the violence have to say.
30:23Let me just take you through what exactly unfolded late last evening.
30:27In the afternoon, the Hindu right-wing groups were organising a protest
30:30against Aurangzeb, burning effigies of the emperor
30:33and also demanding that the tomb be removed.
30:36By evening, a rumour spread.
30:38Was something else also burnt in that protest?
30:41That was the misinformation rumour,
30:43according to initial information coming in right now.
30:45And that led to a mob emerge on the streets.
30:48They started to indulge in this.
30:51Remember, it's not that easy to burn down cars and vehicles
30:54in public properties.
30:56These are proper residential areas.
30:58Just think of the families residing in these areas.
31:01And this is where Sumi has been reporting in the morning
31:04to help you understand the aftermath of this.
31:06These vehicles all torched.
31:08You can see the police personnel deployed.
31:10You can see local residents.
31:12Let's take a look at other visuals also that have been coming in.
31:15This will be very crucial for the investigators.
31:17This is the CCTV footage that has caught some of those
31:20mobsters, rioters, arsonists.
31:22Very clear agenda.
31:24They've come with stick and stones and bricks.
31:26They are breaking random vehicles.
31:28They don't even realise, I think,
31:30whose vehicle that would possibly be.
31:32They go around in this residential locality.
31:34Some of them have face covered.
31:36This is late into the evening.
31:38We are told this is between 7 to 8 pm
31:40when the violence went full on.
31:42They are breaking vehicles.
31:44They are pelting stones.
31:46This went on for at least an hour
31:48is what the investigators
31:50and our sources on the ground
31:52are telling us.
31:54This happened last night.
31:56What happened in the morning.
31:58My colleague Mustapha Sheikh now sends me this report.
32:00Let's take a look.
32:02Morning in Nagpur after that deadly concerning violence.
32:06We are in Nagpur.
32:08This area is Hamsapuri.
32:10The violence took place in Mahal area of Nagpur.
32:14Two hours later,
32:16there was a huge crowd of about
32:18350 to 400 people
32:20covering their faces,
32:22raising slogans,
32:24having weapons in their hands.
32:26The sharp knife you can see
32:28is in the hands of one of the rioters accused.
32:30The CCTVs have been broken.
32:32You can see these motorcycles of the residents
32:34have been burnt.
32:36Not only that,
32:38that crowd was violent.
32:40They were throwing stones.
32:42And at this point,
32:44you can say that people who were living here,
32:46their residences, their houses,
32:48there were stones pelted at these houses.
32:50They were trying to get inside.
32:52But somehow, these people
32:54were able to save their lives.
32:56After yesterday's incident,
32:58you would say that
33:00your life was saved.
33:02What were their intentions?
33:04They said the same thing.
33:06To burn the house.
33:08The house would have been burnt
33:10if they hadn't come.
33:12The house was so deep.
33:14How could they have come?
33:16After that,
33:18if they had come,
33:20they would have
33:22broken the door
33:24and come inside.
33:26They would have broken the door
33:28and come inside.
33:30Somehow,
33:32we closed the door
33:34and went inside.
33:36But still,
33:38they destroyed their cars.
33:40If we had come,
33:42we would have finished the movie.
34:08Yesterday, they had not seen anything like this before.
34:10We were getting to hear
34:12that there were some
34:14protests which were happening
34:16regarding the grave of Aurangzeb.
34:18But it would take such a violent turn
34:20is something nobody expected.
34:22This is the lane
34:24where you can say that
34:26this entire crowd
34:28had come and the violence started.
34:30There is one set of violence
34:32which took place at Mahal.
34:34There is another set of violence
34:36which took place here in Hansapuri.
34:38In Nagpur, with Campos and Kiran Sabkal,
34:40Mustafa Sheikh for India Today.
35:06They were charging only on a rumour
35:08to target public property
35:10of their own Nagpur, so to say.
35:36The bill, then protest,
35:38day after Islamic bodies
35:40got together to protest in Delhi,
35:42the Hajj panel is saying,
35:44Waqf Bill and the amendment coming with it
35:46will benefit everyone.
35:48The Delhi Hajj Committee
35:50has questioned, why are you protesting?
35:52At least read the bill, the details,
35:54then protest.
36:06The Waqf Amendment Bill
36:08is for transparency and accountability.
36:10This will increase
36:12transparency and accountability.
36:14There are some people
36:16who are controlling
36:18things on their own.
36:20This won't work.
36:22This is why
36:24I am repeating
36:26this Waqf Amendment Bill
36:28that it is being taken
36:30for the betterment of the Muslim community
36:32by the government.
36:34My colleague, Piyush Mishra,
36:36joining me for the latest on that.
36:38Piyush, that's a very interesting comment that's come in
36:40that at least the protest should come after
36:42you've read the details, but tell us more
36:44about what the Hajj panel has said
36:46and what is the status with the protest
36:48because Owaissi was also seen
36:50at Jantar Mantar.
36:52Well, the protest continues, Pooja,
36:54and this entire cabal of Muslim
36:56leaders, they have decided to protest
36:58until the time, you know,
37:00this bill is not taken back.
37:02They are saying that if this bill
37:04is tabled in Parliament and if it
37:06gets passed, then they will
37:08protest across the country.
37:10Yesterday, we saw a lot of Muslim
37:12leaders staging their protest, including
37:14Ashutosh Owaissi and
37:16various political opposition parties.
37:18They had also joined that protest, which also
37:20includes some of the party, Congress
37:22and various others. So the opposition
37:24is of the view that the government is
37:26trying to bulldoze this bill on
37:28the minority here in the
37:30country. On the other side, the government
37:32representatives have made it very clear
37:34that this bill is going to give a lot of benefits
37:36to poor Muslim women,
37:38to poor strata of
37:40Muslim society. It is going to
37:42give back them their rights
37:44and there is a lot of accountability and transparency
37:46also in this entire bill.
37:48We also spoke to Jagdambi Kapal
37:50who is the chairperson of
37:52JPCO and Vax Bill. He also made it
37:54very clear that all the protesters
37:56should read what is there
37:58in the Vax Bill and then only they should
38:00go and protest. In fact, he also
38:02highlighted that the JPCO had held
38:04various meetings,
38:06multiple deliberations have taken place and
38:08after that itself, the report has
38:10been submitted. Now we will have to wait and watch how
38:12the politics is going to escalate on this entire matter.
38:14So if there is a group saying at least
38:16let's read and if it is about
38:18holding accountable, holding answerable,
38:20should we look at that too. Thank you very much Piyush.
38:22We will be tracking about the protests too.
38:28News
38:32coming in from Uttar Pradesh's Hathras.
38:34A chief proctor at a college
38:36in Hathras has been accused of sexual
38:38exploitation by several female
38:40students. The proctor
38:42has been identified as one Rajneesh Kumar.
38:44He is from
38:46the PC Bagla College in Hathras.
38:48In the complaint that students
38:50have written and these are multiple students
38:52who have come forth accusing the
38:54proctor of sexual exploitation.
38:56They are sharing even photographs
38:58allegedly showing the chief proctor
39:00in objectionable positions
39:02with some students.
39:04So these are, remember also as much
39:06about a power hierarchy, the fact that
39:08the proctor would be in a position to
39:10take a decision sometimes when it
39:12comes to students and their future.
39:14So it's misuse of power.
39:16These are charges, these are allegations
39:18that have come in and complaints
39:20that appear to have been filed by
39:22multiple students. For now we are told
39:24because the charges are very grievous in nature.
39:26Authorities have suspended Rajneesh Kumar,
39:28the chief proctor at the Bagla
39:30Degree College in Hathras. The college's
39:32principal has confirmed the
39:34suspension and that the incident
39:36was reported. District officials also
39:38have come in to take note. Remember
39:40because most of these students
39:42would either be minors or teenagers
39:44and therefore very sensitive to say the least.
39:46Let's listen in to reactions.
39:54In this case, in the name of
39:56making students pass, in the name of
39:58giving them jobs and other reasons
40:00the students have been harassed or
40:02influenced and this type of
40:04misconduct has been committed against them.
40:06And in this case, there have been
40:08five arrests in the association.
40:10Three teams have been formed to
40:12arrest Prof. Rajneesh Kumar and
40:14all the associations have been
40:16suspended. We will immediately
40:18start the legal proceedings and
40:20arrest Prof. Rajneesh Kumar and
40:22all the associations have been
40:24suspended. In this case, the administration
40:26has taken action and the college has
40:28suspended them immediately.
40:30What right did the college have in this?
40:32You tell me, what right did they have?
40:34No victim has come forward, no girl
40:36has come forward, no one has given
40:38any statement, no one has complained.
40:40So what was the college doing?
40:42As soon as he came to the association,
40:44the college immediately
40:46started the proceedings.
40:49Ashish Srivastava joins me for the latest on that.
40:52Ashish, tell me more about this case
40:54because it looks like he lured
40:56these young female students on the
40:58pretext of promise of employment,
41:00livelihood and more.
41:02Yes, of course.
41:04This is the Chief Doctor of
41:06Banga Degree College in Hathras.
41:08He was the chief sexually harassing
41:10student and the college
41:12suspended him after he
41:14was treated at Hathras
41:17This is the situation
41:19that has occurred here in Hathras
41:21and that was the reason the police
41:23have registered the case.
41:25This is not the first case but
41:27already many have reported
41:29a case over there and that's why
41:31this action has been taken against
41:33him and it was a reason that
41:35a female is being harassed
41:37by someone
41:39so the police are taking action
41:41against that person.
41:43Rakesh Kumar,
41:45who as a sexually harassed
41:47student and
41:49that time he has been
41:51now registered case against him
41:53and action is being taken
41:55against him.
41:57Ashish, this is a very serious
41:59case and keep tracking details
42:01of that because remember these are
42:03charges for now, it will have to be
42:05investigated further but it appears
42:07some of the students have even given
42:09out photographs saying that there's
42:11evidence of how he would exploit them
42:13for some promise that would come in
42:15misuse of power, authority coming in
42:17from this person.
42:31In Karnataka it is the
42:33global syndicate trail that
42:35the investigators are looking at now
42:37a gold smuggling charge that has
42:39come in not just against the starlet
42:41the actress but also a partner
42:43in crime, a fellow actor possibly.
42:45Remember what triggered the suspicion of the
42:47authorities was Ranera's frequent
42:49trips to Dubai and when I say frequent
42:51trips I mean 52
42:53visits to Dubai
42:55in 2024, in one year
42:57and that's not it. Even in
42:592025, just about two months,
43:0127 trips to Dubai and
43:03that led to a lot of suspicion. The
43:05movement that was noticed from Bengaluru,
43:07Goa and Mumbai. What caught the attention
43:09eventually was when she returned
43:11on a similar day, there's a
43:13timeline that the investigators
43:15could point to, leading to speculation
43:17about an organized smuggling network.
43:19They're now investigating further, one
43:21about bank accounts, financial
43:23transactions spanning the last two years,
43:25images like the wedding pictures if she
43:27knew about some VVIPs who
43:29could be in close coordination.
43:31They're looking at the accounts and
43:33the money laundering. If the money was transferred
43:35to unidentified accounts, possibly
43:37then linked to international smuggling
43:39syndicate. Tarun Raju, a
43:41businessman and actor who's also
43:43under the scanner right now of the Enforcement Directorate.
43:45Sources say Tarun Raju may
43:47have been handling the Hawala transactions
43:49used to fund smuggling
43:51operations. Ranerao's
43:53stepfather, DGP rank officer Ramachandra
43:55Rao who's been sent on compulsory
43:57leave, remember, is also going to
43:59be questioned very soon.
44:03So amid all of this
44:05remember, the question remains
44:07was this just about one actress
44:09or is this a full on Hawala
44:11money transfer that happened
44:13and a nexus at play as well.
44:15More and more individuals like this Tarun
44:17Raju businessman who's also been
44:19taken in custody, but was he
44:21handling the Hawala transactions?
44:23Money that was, according to our sources
44:25with the investigating agencies,
44:27was transferred via Hawala to buy
44:29gold in Dubai. Gold was
44:31then smuggled into India by
44:33the actress Ranerao. Investigators
44:35believe that the money was then transferred
44:37to Ranerao's accounts and
44:39from that was sent to unidentified
44:41accounts. That could be linked
44:43to international gold smuggling
44:45syndicate.
44:47From Karnataka
44:49I now take you to the state of Tamil Nadu
44:51because that's where a political showdown
44:53escalating. BJP making inroads into
44:55Tamil Nadu as a strong opposition
44:57but TVK chief Vijay
44:59dismissing Bharatiya Janata Party's
45:01liquor protests, labelling the
45:03BJP and their protests as mere theatrics.
45:05Vijay is questioning the delay
45:07in action from the Enforcement Directorate
45:09and criticising both the Bharatiya Janata
45:11Party and the Dravid Ramaneswar Karagam
45:13saying there is a behind the scenes
45:15collusion between the two parties.
45:17Annamalai meanwhile head back at Vijay
45:19accusing the opposition of playing
45:21politics from a distance, that they're not
45:23addressing real issues. But in
45:25the dock is this man, Senthil Balaji.
45:27He's a minister in Tamil Nadu government.
45:29It is him the
45:31investigators are looking at and
45:33BJP charging him that he's the
45:35minister involved in that liquor
45:37scam. However, Senthil
45:39Balaji says there's no room for malpractice
45:41in TASMAC tender process.
45:43TASMAC, just so you should know, is the Tamil Nadu
45:45State Marketing Corporation Limited.
45:47It's fully owned by the Tamil Nadu government. It
45:49procures liquor from local
45:51IMFs and beer manufacturers and then
45:53distributes it statewide.
45:55Our very dearest
45:57police people with whom I have a lot
45:59of respect. Some of
46:01the officers have become stooges of DMK.
46:03Instead of wearing a
46:05police uniform, they can remove their uniform
46:07and wear a DMK karai vesti
46:09and the commissioner and the DGP can do
46:11politics here instead of sitting in this chair.
46:13They want to please the
46:15chief minister from morning till evening.
46:17It's a very shameful attitude
46:19of the senior police officers of the
46:21state that they believe
46:23okay, BJP is doing a protest against
46:25DMK. Let me harass all
46:27the women gathers.
46:29They've arrested a lot of people. They had
46:317-8 Kalyana Mantapa over full.
46:33They couldn't even have Kalyana Mantapa where they can
46:35keep people. They left people in the road.
46:37After 6 o'clock, you're not supposed to keep
46:39a mother or a sister in detention.
46:41They kept till 7 o'clock.
46:43Till 6.20 I waited. I told at least
46:45release the women. We'll be waiting.
46:47But they are so arrogant.
46:49It is 7 o'clock.
46:51I don't know. I don't know who
46:53is that sack
46:55whom they are contacting. As a democratic
46:57party, I have all right to
46:59agitate. Is it fair to keep us like this?
47:01No, this is atrocious.
47:03Atrocious. They are
47:05not behaving as per the law.
47:07They are
47:09not behaving as per the legal
47:11aspects. The agitation
47:13they got us. And to get
47:15release, we have to agitate. So in Tamil Nadu
47:17without agitation, nothing will happen.
47:19Why are you not following the law?
47:21Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, I'm asking
47:23this question to you.
47:25Crew 9, Sunita Williams
47:27and Butch Wilmore are preparing to head
47:29back to Earth. It's been their time at the
47:31International Space Station where these
47:33stranded astronauts though were still
47:35focusing on work, it wasn't just wait
47:37and watch. They were designing better
47:39reactors, building wooden satellites,
47:41preparing for missions to the Moon
47:43and the Mars. So here's a report first
47:45on what they did in these 9 months
47:47despite facing uncertainty.
47:49We're
47:51constantly doing experiments.
47:53We're constantly collecting data.
47:55We're constantly trying to answer questions
47:57and usually that leads to more questions.
47:59The focus of the question though is
48:01what happens when you
48:03take gravity away? Because
48:05it's such a strong force, it
48:07masks lots of the nuances
48:09in different things that behave
48:11around us. And understanding those
48:13nuances helps us understand more
48:15about ourselves as well as
48:17the universe and how we interact with it.
48:19So we look at medicines, we look
48:21at materials and making new
48:23materials. We look at how we
48:25behave so that we know how medicines
48:27might interact with us or how to counteract
48:29diseases. You name it, we're
48:31doing research on it up here.
48:33We've had opportunities to do all
48:35sorts of science, spacewalks.
48:37It's varied and
48:39pretty awesome actually opportunity
48:41to do something different every single
48:43day. You can see Butch Wilmore
48:45with the different canisters to
48:47collect those microorganism swabs.
48:49A great view
48:51from the helmet camera of
48:53NASA astronaut Nick Hague. You can see
48:55floating off just past that left hand of his.
48:57Those are the wedge-shaped NICER
48:59patches that he'll be inserting into
49:01the NICER experiment, the X-ray
49:03telescope.
49:05Anytime you look out the window, it's
49:07pretty amazing. The Aurora Borealis,
49:09the Aurora Australis, just to see the
49:11variety of the Earth from above,
49:13it's just thrilling.
49:15These are called
49:17astrobees. So they
49:19actually can come off the wall
49:21and fly around. Huge opportunities
49:23for people to test out guidance
49:25navigation control on a
49:27quote-unquote spacecraft in
49:29microgravity inside here. So we
49:31have companies, universities, students
49:33all flying these astrobees
49:35around at different times.
49:37Some of them are actually even grabbing
49:39onto other pieces that we might have floating around
49:41and that might help us clean up space debris.
49:43We have a tray right here
49:45that does some combustion
49:47experiments. Right on the other side of Butch
49:49is a glove box where we've done
49:51some stem cell research as well
49:53as DNA sequencing.
49:55And there's an airlock where it can take
49:57payloads out of the space
49:59station and those could be Earth
50:01observation satellites. They could be
50:03launchers of other micro-satellites.
50:05They could be doing all sorts of amazing stuff.
50:07The mission of the space station,
50:09the scientific exploration
50:11is something that we
50:13deeply believe in. And it's
50:15ability to make a positive
50:17impact for all of
50:19humanity.
50:21Astronaut Sunita Williams has spent
50:23more than 600 days splitting three
50:25missions in space. But this particular
50:27mission in the last four
50:29weeks has been over 200 days.
50:31It seemed, remember, an
50:33endless uncertainty, but stay tuned.
50:3519th March, 3.30am
50:37Indian Standard Time. We're expecting
50:39the tentative splashdown for Sunita
50:41Williams to return to Earth.
50:47A SpaceX capsule delivered
50:49four astronauts to the
50:51International Space Station early on
50:53Sunday.
50:57Crew 10 has had a great journey
50:59up here, about 28 hours to
51:01get back up to the space station and
51:03I cannot tell you the immense
51:05joy of our crew
51:07when we looked out the window and we saw the space station.
51:09The NASA
51:11crew swap mission will allow astronauts
51:13stuck in space for nine months,
51:15Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams
51:17to return home.
51:21Weather plays the most crucial
51:23role in a successful return.
51:25NASA and
51:27SpaceX decided on Wednesday,
51:2919th March, 3.30am
51:31Indian Standard Time, as
51:33the target for the splashdown
51:35of the Crew 9 after careful
51:37review of the favourable weather conditions
51:39in Florida.
51:41The entire journey will be nearly
51:4319 hours.
51:45Starting
51:47at 8.15am on 18th
51:49March, the first step is the
51:51process of hatch closing,
51:53which would approximately take
51:55two hours to complete.
51:57Then the undocking from the space station
51:59would start at 10.15am
52:01which would take another 20 minutes.
52:13For the next 14 hours,
52:15the NASA astronauts Nick Hague,
52:17Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore
52:19as well as Roscosmos
52:21cosmonaut Alexander
52:23Gorbunov will travel through
52:25space to near Earth's orbit.
52:27Clear weather conditions
52:29at the Florida splashdown sites
52:31will then lead to the process
52:33of de-orbit turned tentatively
52:35at 2.41am on 19th
52:37March and at about
52:393.27am, the splashdown
52:41of the Dragon spacecraft
52:43will mark the return of
52:4558-year-old Sunita Williams
52:47to Earth.
52:51But it would be a long, hard road
52:53to rehabilitate and readjust
52:55to life on Earth after
52:57nine long months of space mission.
53:01They have to
53:03readapt to being back on the ground
53:05and so
53:07that involves
53:09you know, there will be a landing
53:11recovery team, the medical
53:13team is part of that
53:15and so we'll go out to the
53:17landing site and help
53:19get the crew off the vehicle
53:21and
53:23bring them back here to Houston
53:25and then once they're back here
53:27there's a
53:29basically a 45 day period
53:31of
53:33fairly intensive
53:35reconditioning.
