Nine-year-old Thai tattooist makes his mark

Wielding a cumbersome tattoo gun with his small hands swamped in surgical gloves, nine-year-old Napat Mitmakorn expertly inks the pattern of a fanged serpent on a man's upper thigh, as he makes his public debut at the Thailand Tattoo Expo in Bangkok.

00:00I started with my phone off and I was still watching when I was taking a shower.
00:29My eyes were swollen and I didn't know what to do.
00:35Then I saw my dad in a suit, so I asked for his permission.
00:47He's only 9 years old.
00:50Wow, look at his smile.
00:59No, because before I got a tattoo, I had already had a lot of tattoos.
01:08So I trusted him.
01:29This is Billy Bill.
01:42Yeah, the tattoo industry is more vibrant here.
01:46The clients are more accepting for doing bigger, crazier stuff.
01:51And the skin's nicer.
01:54No, because of the diet.
01:56There's more moisture in the Asian diet.
01:59You don't eat a lot of bread and potatoes.
02:02So the skin's, yeah, more noodles.
02:06The skin's way better.
02:15I understand him.
02:17But I'm not against it.
02:19He wants to live a normal life.
02:22But when he gets home around 6 PM, he'll get a tattoo.
02:27It's an hour or two a day.
02:29It's like practicing before going to bed.
02:32I don't force him to do it.
02:34It's good for him.
02:35Because it's not just a tattoo.
02:37It's also a form of drawing.
02:39It's a form of training.
