00:00Last week, my friend Genie was hosting a professional Brawl Stars tournament.
00:03The grand prize was $5,000 and this rare pin that you can only get from winning one of
00:09these tournaments.
00:10But how did I end up competing for this?
00:12Well, long story short, a day before the tournament was supposed to start, someone dropped out.
00:17And out of pure desperation, Genie reached out and extended me an invite.
00:21Without skipping a beat, I said I'd be there.
00:23Not only for the content, but to win the whole thing.
00:26I don't know who I'm filling in for, but what I do know is that teams for the tournament
00:30were decided a while ago via a draft system, and that everyone here is either a pro or
00:36personally invited by Genie himself.
00:38TLDR, it's mostly pros and a handful of YouTubers in here.
00:41I also know that my teammates are gods amongst men.
00:45First, we've got Zulon, a multi-champion, one of the best players in the world, and
00:50I don't think I need to speak to his pedigree any more than that.
00:52And then we've got Vegeta, who, prior to the tournament, said that he used to snipe
00:56me in my power league streams and troll me.
00:58I don't hold any grudges, so we're all square.
01:01Vegeta is also a very, very good professional player, don't get me wrong.
01:04And so now that introductions are out of the way, let me explain how our preparation for
01:08this tournament went.
01:09We actually didn't hop into a call until after the tournament had already started.
01:13No prep, no chat about playstyles or potential draft strategies.
01:17We didn't even play any matches together beforehand.
01:19Nothing.
01:20We went in completely cold.
01:22Anyway, I'll explain how the matches work as well.
01:24Each one is a best of five series of Brawl Ball, Heist, Hot Zone, Gem Grab, and Knockout.
01:28Win three of those and you move on to the next round, plain and simple.
01:31For our first match of the tournament, we were pitted up against a team consisting of
01:34Pain, Ducky, and none other than OJ.
01:37Up first, we've got a game of Brawl Ball on sneaky fields.
01:40Obviously the pros know the most, so drafting was all depending on them.
01:43I never realized how much these guys know about the game until Vegeta called out exactly
01:49what they were going to pick.
01:51Yeah, it's not exactly accurate, but Ash is still a tank and so he was already planning
02:00to take a tank counter before they even made their first pick.
02:03It's thinking like this that really is impressive.
02:06After that, the draft finishes up and we've got a team of Juju, Mazzy, and Frank versus
02:10Surge, Max, and Ash.
02:12And right away, we found ourselves pinned in the back of our spawn.
02:15But thanks to this heads up play from Zulon to clear the ball, we were able to stabilize.
02:19Then Vegeta picks up this clutch kill right here, allowing us to push up and take control
02:23of the map.
02:24After that, Zulon just went BLAMMO mode, picked up two kills, and secured us our first goal
02:29of the tournament.
02:30I'm not going to lie, it felt good to be in the lead, but the match was far from finished.
02:34With just 30 seconds left on the clock, they sent everything at us.
02:38Max Hypercharge lets them push up, Surge Hypercharge takes me down, and Ash Hypercharge takes down
02:43Zulon.
02:44We were down to our last player alive.
02:45But Vegeta doesn't flinch.
02:47Vegeta doesn't fold.
02:49He stands on his head and single-handedly prevents them from scoring.
02:53After a bit more defense from the boys, we secured our first win of the tourney.
02:56However, we do have to win one more in order to claim the map.
03:00It's a best of three inside of a best of five.
03:02It's a little confusing, but just bear with me.
03:04Winning that first match gave me a lot of confidence heading into game two, which started
03:07out almost the exact same as game one.
03:10We were quickly pinned in our spawn, just waiting for an opportunity to push out.
03:14Unfortunately, that wouldn't come, and despite Zulon's best efforts to clear the ball, we
03:18end up conceding and going down 1-0.
03:20With the walls being broken, Surge being at tier three, and the Ash unleashing his Hypercharge,
03:25there wasn't much we could do to defend.
03:27And they end up scoring again, winning match number two.
03:30Our first match of the tourney all comes down to round three, where Vegeta gave me solid
03:35advice.
03:36I think you can like move up a little more against the Surge.
03:38Like he shouldn't be able to like push up behind our like one by two wall there.
03:42Okay.
03:43This is a prime example as to why I'm grateful to have these guys as my teammates.
03:47They were super nice and actually taught me things and helped me play better.
03:50Vegeta also makes videos about pro matches and high level gameplay.
03:53So if you guys want to learn a thing or two, check out his channel right here.
03:56Anyway, believe it or not, his advice actually worked and we were able to trap the Surge
04:00and take him down pretty quick.
04:02Doing this allowed us to pin them back in the spawn for the first time in a while.
04:06And with a huge super from Zulon and a little bit of ball movement from me, we took a commanding
04:101-0 lead.
04:11Man, being ahead just feels so much better than playing from behind.
04:15It wasn't long before our opposition went on the attack again, but Vegeta and I, mostly
04:19Vegeta, clutch up on defense once again.
04:22Maisie was such a good pick, like I can't emphasize enough how big she was for us when
04:26it came to defending.
04:27We would have been screwed without her, plain and simple.
04:29And speaking of defending, with 15 seconds left, they once again throw everything at
04:34us.
04:35They all pop hyper charge and super at the same time, and I've never been so scared
04:39in my life.
04:40They put it all on the line, desperately trying to tie this game up.
04:44No way!
04:45You guys are so f***ing good, boys!
04:46Come on!
04:47Nice, Vegeta.
04:48GG's.
04:49Nice.
04:50Good job, guys.
04:51Thanks for the pointers, man.
04:52But they seem to have forgotten that we have Vegeta on our team.
04:56Securing that win right there was a massive boost of confidence for me.
05:00It shows that I can hang with these guys.
05:02The heist map that we have to play is Hot Potato.
05:04Frankly, it's a map that I haven't seen or played on in quite a long time.
05:08But thankfully, my teammates cooked up a good plan, and that was to take aggressive brawlers.
05:13And so then we banned Maisy, Nita, and Cordelius, three big counters to those aggro brawlers.
05:18They take Melody, we take Buzz and Amber, they counter with Riko and Juju, and with
05:23our final pick, we take Edgar.
05:24I'm not kidding.
05:26We wanted aggressive, and we certainly got it.
05:28Now right away, we bring the heat.
05:30No pun intended, by the way.
05:31But we secure some kills, and we get a decent amount of vault damage done.
05:35I do make a few mistakes on this map, and the first one happens right there.
05:38Vegeta was telling me to get on the vault.
05:40I thought he was just saying to attack it, but then he reminded me of Amber's spinny gadget.
05:45You kind of just walk in a circle around the vault like Melody, and it does a lot of damage.
05:50And it completely slipped my mind, so certainly a lesson learned there.
05:53A lesson that I would put into action fast.
05:55After Zulon pops hypercharge and takes out the Melody, who also has her hypercharge popped,
06:00I take down OJ, and it was time for me to do what I was supposed to do the first time.
06:05Except I run directly on top of the vault and pop the gadget, completely forgetting
06:10that that isn't a thing anymore.
06:11You used to be able to stand directly on top of someone, use the gadget, and it would do
06:15over 6,000 damage.
06:16But that was removed from the game.
06:18Had I used this gadget right, we would have ended the match right there.
06:21But hey, all you can do is learn from mistakes and keep going forward.
06:24Shortly after that, we finished the remaining 6%, and it was on to match number two.
06:28This match was way more back and forth.
06:31After OJ takes out Vegeta, and Pain takes out Zulon, I go down as well, and they begin
06:35to unload on our vault.
06:37Hypercharge Melody and Juju combine to do almost 30%, and we were on the back foot for
06:42the very first time.
06:43We were down, but definitely not out yet.
06:45A big hypercharge from Zulon opens up the map, giving us an opportunity to punish them.
06:50I FINALLY get the gadget right, and Vegeta clobbers away at the vault, bringing them
06:54down to 43%.
06:56You guys saw how fast they were able to do 30% to us before, especially with Melody,
07:01we were not in the clear yet.
07:02Speaking of the devil, she gets in with 8 notes spinning around her, and our vault was
07:06quickly withering away.
07:08We push up the map with just 3% remaining, but Melody sneaks by us and finishes the job,
07:13bringing us to match three once again.
07:15In this one, both teams were on their A game here.
07:18Neither of us wanted to stretch too far and make a mistake.
07:20The game remained tied until around the 1 minute and 20 second mark.
07:24They'd open up with a Riko super to clear the middle, and a hypercharge Melody as the
07:28cavalry.
07:29We keep them at bay, but this key interaction happens on the left side of the map.
07:32Edgar jumps on Melody, who perfectly times a shield gadget to eat that damage and then
07:37stays alive with just a sliver of HP left.
07:40That single play prevents us from being able to push up on the map because we can't just
07:44leave her back there.
07:45Eventually, we do clear them out, and we were able to take control of the entire middle
07:49part of the map.
07:50With the clock counting down, game tied, and the map on the line, we leave it all out there.
07:54Zulon supers in, Vegeta supers in, I'm spamming my shots, we get a team wipe and annihilate
07:59their vault, bringing them down to 33%.
08:03Alls we had to do was defend.
08:04But with 10 seconds left, they all come screaming down the middle of the map.
08:09Supers left, right, and center, I'm just auto aiming, I don't even know what's going on
08:12anymore.
08:13But somehow, someway, when it's all said and done, and the timer hits zero, we emerge victorious,
08:19bringing us to match point.
08:20The next map was Hot Zone on Open Business.
08:23They take Stu with the first pick, and then we take Poco because he counters Liu.
08:27And then we also take Kenji, who Stu is going to have a very hard time dealing with.
08:31They once again take Melody, and then they pick up Maisie as well.
08:34And looking at all of this, Zulon comes up with a god tier pick, Tara.
08:39All of them are single target shooters, and now that Tara has unlimited gadgets, alls
08:43I had to do was spam my clones down all game.
08:46What a great draft from my team, and it showed in the match.
08:49Now I wanted this to be a huge close battle, but they just didn't have anything to deal
08:54with Kenji.
08:55And with my clones haunting them all game, there wasn't much they could do.
08:58We win the first match 100 to 7.
09:01And I'll put my one highlight in here because that's really all that I did.
09:10And then we also win game 2 100 to 7, thus securing a first round victory for us.
09:16I don't know what I expected out of this tournament, but I do know that winning certainly feels
09:20good.
09:21While we were waiting for our second round match, we sat back and watched all of the
09:24other matches, and unfortunately for Genie, Wasim's team also lost in the first round.
09:29Two out of the four YouTubers that he was hoping to make a run were already out, and
09:33it was just me and SuperLab that remained.
09:36When all the dust settles, our second round opponent is a team comprised of HeyGuys, RBM,
09:41and Tacos.
09:42Their first round opponent just didn't even show up, so this would be their very first
09:45match of the tournament, which is good news for us because we were already warmed up and
09:48locked in.
09:49We also get lucky in the fact that our first map is once again a Brawl Ball match on Sneaky
09:54Fields.
09:55Having just played it, it's still fresh in our minds.
09:57And heading into the draft, we knew exactly what they wanted to do.
10:01RBM is one of the best tank players in the entire world, but he's especially known for
10:06playing Ashe.
10:07So much so that they used all of their bans to get rid of three of the biggest Ashe counters,
10:13and they even used their first pick to draft Nida.
10:16We then respond by taking Rico.
10:18After a bit of a discussion about our next pick, Vegeta mentions something unthinkable.
10:39And sure enough, they instantly take Buzz, and then they take Poco as well.
10:43It's not the Byron that Zulon predicted, but he knew they were going to go with a healer.
10:47Again, it's pretty wild that they know exactly how things are going to play out sometimes.
10:51We follow up with a Mazy pick to complete our team, and it was time for the second round
10:55to start.
10:56Now, my lane?
10:57Pretty easy.
10:58I just have to spam shots downrange and prevent this Nida from pushing up.
11:01Easy enough.
11:02Meanwhile, Zulon is literally fighting for his life every second of the match on the
11:06left side.
11:07Eventually, he falls, giving RBM a chance to score.
11:10However, me and Vegeta had other plans, as we combine to once again come up big on defense.
11:16After I corner the ball, our opponents get a little kill-hungry.
11:19They overextend, leading us to take down all three of them within a few seconds.
11:23We take full control of the map, and then Vegeta makes the Tropicana play of the day,
11:27chaining together not one, not two, but THREE hypercharged supers, teamwiping them and getting
11:33us the 1-0 lead.
11:34The match progresses on, and with about 30 seconds left, we unleash our demons on them,
11:39and they really just had no answer, thus winning us our first game.
11:43Now, game two was a bit of a different story.
11:46Our opponents make the right adjustments, and they take Zulon down pretty quick, which
11:49ultimately leads to them scoring.
11:52Definitely not a great way to start.
11:54And things would go from bad to worse for us, with RBM just going nuclear, taking us
11:59out, and burying any hopes we had of winning game two.
12:03However, game threes are a familiar territory for us.
12:06This time, we make the adjustments.
12:08I went to the middle, and Vegeta takes on Buzz in the lane.
12:11Doing this forces the Buzz out, and we were able to catch the Poco out of position.
12:15After that, the dominoes start to fall, and I steal Zulon's goal, giving us the lead
12:19once again.
12:20We then go back to the same opening as before, completely throwing off our opponents as they
12:25try to swap lanes and counter us.
12:27This puts us in a great spot.
12:29Vegeta goes blama mode with Maisie hypercharge once again, I clip the Buzz with a super,
12:34and Zulon takes down Nita.
12:36All of that will seal match number one in our favor.
12:39It's like each match we win gives me more and more confidence heading into the next
12:43one.
12:44Before the next match starts, I'd really appreciate it if you guys would consider subscribing
12:47to the channel.
12:48It helps out a lot, like a lot, a lot.
12:50And some of you guys might not even know that you're not subscribed because my videos just
12:54get recommended to you all the time.
12:56Okay, that's it, thank you.
12:57Our next map is a game of heist on Hot Potato.
13:00We knew that we wanted to play aggressive brawlers here, so we ban a few that counter
13:03them.
13:04We then open the draft by picking Amber.
13:06She's good into almost anything that they could take.
13:09They respond with a Riko pick, as well as Cordelius, who, interestingly enough, counters
13:14every aggressive brawler that you can think of.
13:17Looking back, I'm really not sure why we didn't ban him, but hindsight's 20-20,
13:20huh?
13:21Despite that, we still lock in the Buzz pick, and we also go with Juju, someone that I don't
13:25have a lot of experience playing, if I'm honest.
13:27They conclude the draft with a bold Daryl pick, and game two was about to begin.
13:32Right away, things go sour for us.
13:34Vegeta goes down, Daryl rolls over me to take me out, and when it's all said and done,
13:39they do about 30% to our safe.
13:41It's not the start that we wanted, but it's the start that we got.
13:44In the midst of Zulon dealing with a Cordelius behind us, I manage to Tom Brady a Juju shot
13:50to take down the Riko.
13:52This opens up the middle of the map for Vegeta to sneak in and do a casual 51% to their safe,
13:58giving us a small lead, which really wouldn't last long thanks to Riko and Daryl hypercharge
14:03doing serious damage to our vault, once again putting us on the back foot.
14:07I ice up to take down the Cordelius, but not before he brings us down to just 4% remaining.
14:13While that's going on, Zulon and Vegeta end up trading vault damage, and they bring them
14:17down to 22%.
14:18The match continues, time is counting down, and Daryl is rolling in.
14:22By the skin of my teeth, I make a clutch play to take him out.
14:27But all for naught, because Cordelius would just use his shadow realm to slip by and finish
14:31the job of winning them map number 1.
14:33It was clear that this was winnable for us, so we were still hopeful.
14:36I mentioned earlier how good RBM is on tanks, and here I am, trying my best to deal with
14:41him in the lane.
14:42It's not exactly easy, okay?
14:44Despite my best efforts, he's still able to do about 21% to our vault, but Zulon ends
14:48up doing about 24% to theirs, so it's not all bad.
14:52A little bit of time passes, and Zulon dives in with hypercharge, but Daryl slips by with
14:56his roll.
14:57Cordelia and I swiftly handle it, and with the game about even, we look to push up the
15:01map.
15:02However, that gets thwarted with Daryl rolling in and Cordelius aiding him.
15:06They make quick work of us and melt our vault into nothing, causing us to lose our very
15:10first match of the tournament.
15:12This was a reality check for me, because up until this point, I thought we were untouchable.
15:16We took that loss on the chin and mentally prepared for game 3, a hot zone match on open
15:20business.
15:21We start off by taking Stew, an incredibly versatile brawler that's really hard to counter.
15:27Surprisingly, they take Oli and Gray, and right away, Zulon suggests Griff.
15:31The idea here was to 1.
15:32Open the map up as much as possible, and 2.
15:35Be able to blast them with a super if they decide to all portal to the middle at the
15:39same time.
15:40Having mastered Griff a little bit ago, I was confident in playing him.
15:43Anyway, we then complete our team by taking Frank.
15:46Their comp has low damage as it is, and his stun resist gadget hard counters the Oli.
15:51They finish things up by taking B, and the stage was set.
15:53And as predicted, the Oli couldn't do anything versus a Frank.
15:57We win all of our opening interactions, and our lead skyrockets.
16:01They simply just don't have any answers for our team.
16:03In game 2, they make some adjustments and win the opening exchange this time.
16:07But thanks to Zulon being an absolute Chad Frank player, we wipe them off the board and
16:12seize control of the map.
16:13I'm going to be honest, I was popping off in this game, picking up kills, chaining supers,
16:18doing damage across the board.
16:20I was FRYING here, and as a result, we take the map, and I even got star player.
16:35What we call this is regular, you know?
16:37After that, it was on to match point for us.
16:39We win, and we move on to the next round.
16:41We lose, and we go to a 5th set.
16:44Coming up is a gem grab match on last stop.
16:46Once again, we take Stew with our first pick.
16:48Our opponents then take Lola and Otis, two long range brawlers that are pretty tough
16:53to play against.
16:54We lock in Gus, and to round out our comp, we take Pearl.
16:57They close things out by taking Squeak.
16:59Undoubtedly some weird comps here, but I trust in my teammates to guide us in the right direction.
17:04When the game starts, Zulon gets taken out right away.
17:07But as I battle with RBM, Vegeta takes out the Lola.
17:10The start of this game is just pure chaos.
17:13After being forced to swap lanes, things really start to go downhill.
17:16I immediately get silenced by the Otis and lose my lane.
17:20Then Vegeta goes down, and they build a massive lead on us.
17:23We do manage to fight back, but Lola sneaks into the middle using her pet as a shield,
17:28grabs the 10th gem, and they take game number 1.
17:31Game 2 was 100% going to be an uphill battle.
17:34This time, I decide to play things more patient.
17:37I let my shield build up, and then I storm the left lane.
17:40We push them back and actually start to build a small lead.
17:43Everything was going great.
17:44Up until we staggered a few deaths in a row.
17:47This gives them full control of the gem mine, and they held onto that control until they
17:51got the 10 gems they needed.
17:52They drop back, and they win the match.
17:55Their comp was just better than ours, forcing us to go to a game 5, a knockout match on
18:00Bell's Rock.
18:01Anyway, this was it.
18:02Win and move on to the next round, or lose and get eliminated.
18:05It was right around this time that I started to develop a sinister headache.
18:09During the draft here, you can just see how much I was massaging my temples trying to
18:12make it better.
18:13Anyway, they open things up by taking Jean.
18:15We take Piper, who's a pretty standard pick.
18:18And then we take RT, to hopefully avoid any tanks being played here.
18:22And you can't ever really use a Jean pull on an RT, because you're just going to get
18:25deleted.
18:26They then take Sprout and Mandy, and we needed a thrower, so Gromit is.
18:30And that concludes the draft.
18:32So with our tournament on the line, we head into game 5.
18:35Right off the rip, Vegeta goes Super Saiyan.
18:37No pun intended there, I just realized what I wrote.
18:40Anyway, he flavor blasts the Mandy out of existence.
18:44Believe it or not, with no ranged brawlers and not a lot of DPS, there isn't much to
18:48be done in a 3v2, and so we win the first round.
18:51However, round 2 is a completely different story.
18:54They now have Jean's pull that we have to be wary of, Mandy then swaps lanes with Jean,
18:59and Sprout now has his wall up.
19:01We were playing a completely different game.
19:03We were at a standstill for a bit, just poking and trading damage back and forth.
19:07You know, exactly how knockout goes.
19:09But thanks to Sprout landing a few shots and using his hyper charge, they take me down,
19:13and ultimately wipe our team off the planet, forcing this to a round 3.
19:17Really, what this game has evolved into is us constantly swapping lanes.
19:21We want Piper vs Mandy, and Jean vs me so that he can't pull me.
19:26And then Gromit just has to go wherever the Sprout puts his wall up.
19:29It's a constant battle of getting the right matchup, preventing your opponents from swapping
19:33lanes, and poking damage.
19:35Lucky for us, Taco overextends, and Zulon quickly punishes him, giving us the advantage.
19:40Jean unleashes his pull on me, but with cat-like reflexes, I use my super and bring it to an
19:45unwinnable 3v1, which inevitably wins us the match.
19:49We just have to do all of that one more time to advance to round 3.
19:53The battle of swapping and dancing around picks up right where it left off.
19:57In the midst of things, Zulon gets caught rotating and goes down because of it.
20:01After that, they just pushed up and wiped us off the board.
20:04The dance goes on and on, and eventually, Vegeta makes this god-tier play with his hypercharge,
20:09putting us in a great spot.
20:11I take down the Jean, and then Sprout falls, forcing this to round 3 yet again.
20:16Right at the start, I get slowed by the Mandy, and she instantly followed up with a super,
20:20which combined to bring me down to 488 health.
20:25When I saw that shot coming, I've never been more terrified of anything in my life.
20:28Lucky enough, we live to see another lane swap.
20:31Because that's all it felt like we were doing at this point.
20:34The match goes on, and the gas was closing in, pressure mounting.
20:38We were pushed all the way back.
20:39In the face of a challenge, we don't run.
20:41Calm, cool, and collected, Zulon Kobe's a legendary Grom shot that knocks the Mandy
20:47right into Vegeta's path, and a guy like him isn't going to miss that.
20:50We make it to 3v2, but the job wasn't quite finished yet.
20:53Zulon goes down to 1400 HP, but with some fancy footwork and a bit of patience, we survive
20:58and win the map.
21:00I feel like I had already learned so much from this experience, but the job's not
21:13done yet.
21:14While we were waiting for our next match, I tried to do everything that I can to shake
21:17this headache, but nothing seemed to work.
21:19It's not going to stop me from playing, but it's just annoying to deal with.
21:23Anyway, after a little bit, our next opponents were revealed to us.
21:26Their team is made up of Snoy, Eslivi, and 8ix9ine, aka Jimmy.
21:31Starting things off, we got another match on Sneaky Fields.
21:33I don't know if everyone else also played this map in every round before this, but we
21:37were well practiced on it, so that's fine.
21:39They use their first pick to take Stew.
21:41I'll keep saying it, but he's an amazing first pick.
21:44Vegeta then has a brain blast and picks Poco.
21:47Stew's damage isn't great, so if we have healing, it can render him useless.
21:51Having Poco makes us weak to tanks, so I take Nita as a countermeasure for tanks and for
21:56Stew.
21:57After that, they take Rico for some DPS and finish off with Larry and Laurie.
22:00And then Zulon has an even bigger brain blast.
22:03With the final pick, he takes Frank.
22:05Not only do our opponents have pretty low DPS overall, but Frank's ability to break
22:09the walls will render Larry useless.
22:12Overall, we were really happy with the draft.
22:14Our plan worked to perfection.
22:17We instantly seized control of the map because they just didn't have enough damage to push
22:21us back.
22:22And that leads up to this crazy play.
22:31We continued using our run it down strategy.
22:34They simply can't do anything about it, and we score once again, getting us the win.
22:38Again, you guys see how important the drafts are now.
22:41If we don't take Frank, we'd have an entirely different match on our hands.
22:45In game 2, we try the same thing, but unfortunately, we get full clipped by the Rico and two of
22:50us die.
22:51This causes us to get pinned back on our spawn.
22:53However, after a bit of an overextension from Ezlivie, we get an opening.
22:57We take him down, and Zulon creates space for our team to get to work.
23:01He pops hypercharge, supers in all directions, breaks Ezlivie's ankles, and puts us in
23:05the lead.
23:06We just needed one more goal for us to secure the set.
23:09But they had other plans.
23:10Zulon goes down, and Snoy makes a heads up play as Stew to get the ball and super it
23:16forward.
23:17It completely catches me out of position, and Jimmy was able to score.
23:20But it wasn't all bad, because I finally got my bear, combined that with my hypercharge,
23:24and Bruce was running wild.
23:26Eventually, things calm down and the match progresses.
23:29Later on, we're having a full on team fight in the middle of the map, which will ultimately
23:32decide who will go on to have a chance to win the map.
23:35It was at this point in the match that I remembered that my friends and family were watching.
23:39I sent them the link to the stream, and I haven't checked my phone in a few hours.
23:42But all of a sudden, it started blowing up with a bunch of texts from all of my friends.
23:46But instead of folding like an omelette, I think about all of my friends and family that
23:49are watching, and I see an opportunity to make a play.
24:20Oh my god!
24:22Yo Conor got the ice!
24:24Conor got the ice!
24:26Being able to pull that off just felt incredible.
24:29There was a handful of people in the chat that were non-stop mentioning that I was getting
24:33carried.
24:34Like, yeah, I'm playing with two people that play this game at the highest level possible.
24:38Obviously, I'm gonna get carried.
24:40But being able to make that play right there and pull my own weight for just a little bit
24:44was good enough for me.
24:45We were on to set number two, a heist map on Kaboom Canyon.
24:49Right off the rip, we take Angelo.
24:51He pumps an insane amount of damage, plus he has the range and can fly over the water.
24:55He's just an amazing brawler for us to be able to get.
24:58They follow up with Amber and Belle to combat that just a tiny bit.
25:02And we knew that with Angelo, we were gonna be able to find kills.
25:05So we then take Colette in order for us to be able to get damage onto the vault.
25:09And we follow it up by picking 8-Bit.
25:11Just a solid brawler overall.
25:13He offers a lot with range and control.
25:15They end things out by taking Eve.
25:17I guess the idea is that her pickles are gonna be a way to counter me.
25:20And she can fly over the water and get to the middle.
25:22I don't know.
25:23But because I'm playing Colette, there's a lot of pressure on me.
25:26I have to be the one pushing up and securing damage for us.
25:29I am actually the win condition.
25:31I'm not gonna lie, I've whiffed a lot of Colette supers in my day.
25:34So I needed to lock in here.
25:36When you look at this map, it's all about control and patience.
25:39Neither team wants to extend too far or retreat enough to give the other team space.
25:44And speaking of patience, I managed to die twice while I was trying to farm up my super.
25:48But that's not really a big deal.
25:50Eventually though, they take me and Zulon out, securing 21% damage onto our vault.
25:55Which all things considered, isn't that bad.
25:57If they had more DPS, it could have been way, way worse.
26:01With 30 seconds left, we were still losing.
26:03However, I combine with Zulon to find 2 kills and get a super onto the vault.
26:07The clock continued to count down and we still had some work to do.
26:10As we were going into the final 10 seconds, Vegeta just sends it.
26:14He hits a huge clip onto the vault, and I follow up with a hypercharged super, closing
26:19out game 1 in our favor.
26:21I did exactly what I needed to do, and I felt pretty good about that.
26:24I might not be picking up a ton of kills, but I'm playing my role to the best of my
26:28ability.
26:29Plus, kills don't really matter if they don't help you win the game.
26:31Anyway, game 2 starts out a little bit rough for us.
26:33We get pushed back right away, and they manage to get about 21% damage done to our vault.
26:38This time, I get my hypercharge and super very early on, and that gets us a fat chunk
26:43of damage on our own, and we now had a small lead.
26:46And then I make a crucial mistake that I don't mind showing you guys here.
26:50I'm in the midst of getting ran down by an Amber, and for whatever reason in my head,
26:55I thought I could use my super to take her out, and I just completely waste it.
26:59Definitely not the play to make, and it's stuff like that that could really cost you
27:03the game.
27:04Lucky for me, I've got gods as my teammates, and they clean up my mess.
27:07Our defense stands tall, and we win the second set.
27:10It felt so close, yet so far all at the same time.
27:13Meanwhile, my headache was mounting and mounting, and nothing I do seemed to fix it.
27:18But I had to keep playing.
27:20And next up was a Hot Zone match on Ring of Fire.
27:23With their first pick, they take probably the single best brawler for this map, and
27:27Hot Zone in general, Lou.
27:29His super alone is enough to give people nightmares.
27:32We counter this by taking Poco.
27:34I wasn't aware of this at the time, but his anti-stun gadget cleanses Lou's freeze
27:40and prevents people from being frozen.
27:42You know, from his hypercharge.
27:44We then take Stew to get some aggression on our team.
27:47They follow up with B and Kenji.
27:48B is a standard, but our DPS is pretty low, so Kenji will undoubtedly be annoying.
27:54We end up taking Buster as our final pick.
27:56Our plan was to ditch the traditional 3 lane split, and we were all going to play in the
28:00middle.
28:01We start off about even, until the Lou's supers start raining in and Kenji starts terrorizing
28:06us.
28:07Because of that, they build up a bit of a lead.
28:08Eventually, we make enough space and survive just long enough to take a small lead.
28:13But once again, the Lou's supers remain an issue.
28:16It was here that we just needed 6% to win.
28:19Six more percent.
28:21But with the Lou's super down and the B hitting 4k shots left and right, we get melted
28:26on our push out and we lose the first map.
28:29Game 2 starts off about the same.
28:31We take initial control, and once Lou gets his super going, they push us back.
28:35But this go around, I have way better timings with my gadgets, and I'm actually able to
28:39negate the Lou's supers almost entirely.
28:42Meanwhile, Kenji still remains a thorn in our side, but overall, we were able to build
28:46up a pretty big lead.
28:47Even when a game seems over, it's never exactly over.
28:51But thanks to Buster pushing them back, we storm the middle and bring it to match point.
28:55Game 3, believe it or not, starts off the exact same.
29:00We take control, Lou's super goes down, they take control, and the dance continues.
29:04But this time, Kenji really pops off.
29:06I mean, we just cannot kill this guy.
29:08He's terrorizing us in our spawn, and Lou's supers are constantly coming down, so we can't
29:13get out.
29:14And things really got out of hand fast.
29:16We do muster up a bit of gusto and close the gap just a little bit, but overall, the Kenji
29:20remains too much for us, and they take set 3.
29:23That one was frustrating, because it was so winnable.
29:26We just needed 6% in that first match, and we would have been on to the grand finals
29:30already.
29:31Nevertheless, we've got set 4 coming up, a gem grab match on Hard Rock Mine.
29:35Once again, they get the first pick, and they lock in Janet.
29:38Stu was banned, and she's kinda in that same ballpark, where she's a brawler that is really
29:43really difficult to counter.
29:44After that, we take Gus, and then do something unorthodox, and we take Colonel Ruffs.
29:49He's like Walmart Rico on this map.
29:51Because if we took Rico, we'd be open to getting countered by Buzz, which they end up taking
29:56anyway.
29:57They follow things up with a Sandy pick.
29:58And with all of that info, we take Surge.
30:01Starting off, I'm in the lane with Buzz.
30:03Basically, I just have to sit back and not let him hit a gadget on me, and we're good.
30:08Meanwhile, Zulon on the left is trying his hardest to farm a super.
30:11While simultaneously not giving Sandy his super either, it's just a headache of an
30:17engagement.
30:18Eventually, Buzz does find his way into our grasp, but we quickly snuff him out.
30:21While this might have looked like an awful play, it made Vegeta have to back up, and
30:25that allows Janet to push up and take a few gems.
30:28Their lead was already starting to build.
30:31Vegeta hits some shots, making the Janet have to back up.
30:34And then Buzz tries to once again apply pressure, but I clip him, and I take him out.
30:38We were still down by a few gems, but we had full control, and Zulon even got his second
30:43tier, so things were looking good.
30:44We eventually find Elims on all of them, stealing their gems, and securing a pretty easy first
30:49match.
30:50But game two...
30:51Game two is where things go awry.
30:53Right away, you guys can see here that Vegeta was kinda lagging and stutter stepping.
30:57He was freaking out about something, I'm not sure what it was at the time, but it does
31:00sort itself out.
31:01However, those few crucial seconds that we miss out on allows them to take full position
31:06on us and build a pretty decent lead.
31:08Again, we take out the Buzz and finally get things going for us.
31:11Everything was going smoothly.
31:12It was a battle for control that neither of us could afford to lose.
31:16And then Snoy makes a pretty insane play, hooking onto me and taking me down.
31:20But we do trade him out, so it's not that bad.
31:22After that, Zulon petitions for us to swap lanes.
31:25But Snoy sees this coming, so he swaps as well, and instantly hooks onto me again and
31:30takes me out.
31:31Buzz was now in our grass, wreaking havoc.
31:33This puts Vegeta in a weird spot, and then unfortunately, Zulon goes down.
31:37Then a sandstorm goes down, and they get the 10th gem, ultimately bringing it to match
31:41point.
31:42Now in game three, Vegeta suffers from the same lag at the start, and you can clearly
31:45see how big of an issue this is.
31:47Their Janet is already in the middle of the map, while he's still in the grass on our
31:51side.
31:52We were totally out of position.
31:53I end up using a gadget to force her out, but them getting the first two gems is rough.
31:58No pun intended there.
31:59But after getting through that, we team up on the Buzz again, and the match goes on about
32:03as normal as the other ones.
32:05Unfortunately for us, Snoy sneaks through once again and begins to harass us in our
32:09spawn.
32:10It's an incredibly tough position to play from.
32:12Jimmy throws down a sandstorm, but I see right through it and I'm able to get the kill.
32:16And then their Janet was weak, but Zulon gives me this comm.
32:20For me, I didn't hear any urgency, and so I thought she was kind of weak, maybe low
32:29on HP.
32:30I didn't realize that she was only at 200 HP.
32:34I do try to put some pressure on, but I die in the process.
32:38Immediately after coming out of spawn again, you guys can probably guess what happened.
32:42Buzz hypercharges onto me, but this time, I was able to use my super to pick up the
32:46kill without dying.
32:47But at that point, the damage was already done, because Snoy doing that once again allows
32:52us Libby to push up to get the 10th gem and start the countdown.
32:55We do our best to push in and desperately try to get a reset, but we quickly see that
32:59Janet has fly, and that means it's GG.
33:02We're going to set five for the ultimate match point.
33:05Now here's a little bit of tea.
33:07We wouldn't find this out until later on, but Vegeta's lag was from someone spam calling
33:11him on Discord over and over right at the start of both of those matches.
33:16His teammates just wanted to know if they had to scrim tonight, but this guy was also
33:19in the tourney and should have known we were playing.
33:22It's just disappointing to see how much of an impact this had on two of those three matches.
33:26Had that not happened, maybe we have a different story.
33:29Regardless, we were heading to a knockout match on Out in the Open.
33:32One final set to decide who will make Grand Finals.
33:36It calls for some weird picks.
33:38Like you either need a water brawler or a brawler that breaks walls so you aren't completely
33:42funneled to the one side.
33:44With Angelo, the best water brawler, being banned, the first pick was kind of obvious.
33:48The best brawler with an instant wall break is Brock, so it makes sense that they would
33:52take him.
33:53We then take Piper, who's got a wall break of her own, but it just takes a bit of time
33:57to get to, and she plays well versus Brock.
33:59And then we take Eve, so that we have our water brawler.
34:03Juju was open, but they have Brock, so Eve it is.
34:06After that, they pick Buster and Gus, who as Livy is known for playing.
34:11We finish out our comp with Squeak, and we were ready for match point to begin.
34:15Right away we start exchanging shots back and forth, but a bit of a misplay from Snoy
34:19allows us to get the first kill.
34:21All's we had to do from here was play patient, not feed supers, and there's the first round
34:25win.
34:26This time, they play way more passive, and it becomes more of a normal knockout match.
34:31My job is to prevent them from pushing up on the left, and I get my super in the process.
34:35Something that you guys need to know is that these pro knockout matches don't usually
34:39begin until the smoke starts closing in.
34:41I unleash my pickles, Buster uses a shield, Piper uses hypercharge, everything is moving
34:46now, firing on all cylinders.
34:48Buster with a Gus shield manages to take out Zulon.
34:51We trade him out, I take down Brock, and it's a hectic 2v1 in the end.
34:55But as Livy takes out Vegeta and gets his big shot in the process, he instantly deletes
35:00me with the shot and gadget combination.
35:02Map 1 would have to be solved in round 3.
35:04These rounds are a true battle of patience.
35:07That is, until Vegeta taps Jimmy and Zu follows him up with a big squeak shot, but as Livy
35:12comes in the clutch to throw a shield on him to keep him alive, Zulon opens the action
35:16with a hypercharge squeak super that would literally send chills down your spine.
35:21He takes down as Livy with it, and with the upper hand from here on out, alls we have
35:24to do is not suck and we manage to secure map number 1.
35:28But hey, that's not my problem.
35:38Match 2 is a lot of the same.
35:41Sit back, poke your shots, farm your super, and wait for someone to make a mistake.
35:45Unfortunately, that someone would be us.
35:47Vegeta calls to swap with me to try and make a play on the Brock, but he misses the curved
35:52shot.
35:53And then Buster uses his shield to force us back.
35:55And while it ends up being close, they win the first round.
35:58At this point, I was getting close to my hypercharge pickles, which is massive for us.
36:02Eventually I got it, and I use it right before the gas comes in so we can take control.
36:06But that doesn't exactly go according to plan.
36:09And then Vegeta narrowly escapes death, but they overwhelm us and it's GG.
36:13We're going to a double match point.
36:15The winner of this moves on to the grand finals.
36:17And Vegeta hones in like a bloodhound and takes down Brock.
36:21That's exactly the start that we needed.
36:23At this point, the rounds are usually over.
36:25But our opponents want to farm supers, and we do too, so it's not all bad.
36:28But things turn sour when they apply those supers and Buster walks in with a shield on,
36:33He takes out Zulon, I fall to Eslivi, and Gus just wins versus Piper here.
36:37It feels so bad losing a 2v3, but we had to quickly shake that one off.
36:42This is it.
36:43We have to win this round and the next one, otherwise we're done.
36:46I continue to keep them at bay on the left side.
36:49Zulon keeps using Squeak's long gadget to do damage, and overall, we force them back.
36:54Once I used my pickle factory, it was all but over.
36:56Triple match point is here.
36:58The absolute last round, no matter what.
37:00Now something important happened right there.
37:02Something key to note here is that we destroyed their entire bush.
37:06All of their cover that they can hide in is gone.
37:08It's small details like this that can ultimately decide a map.
37:11They have nowhere to hide and wait for us.
37:13And because of this, we gain full control of the map, and we even find the first kill
37:17of the round pretty fast.
37:19Especially on Eslivi, you love to see it.
37:21But we learned from earlier that 2v3s are never certain.
37:32All's we had to do now was not suck.
37:34Actually, I'll let Genie commentate the rest of this.
37:37Dead!
37:38Their carries is dead!
37:39He's dead!
37:40He's not respawning!
37:41It's not a count!
37:42Snoy with the gadget!
37:43Jimmy's tapping!
37:44He's looking for an opening!
37:45But there's just no opening!
37:46They're in a corner!
37:47They're trapped!
37:48There's nowhere to go!
37:49He's tapped and it's over!
37:50Nice boys!
37:51I didn't do anything that game!
38:08Grand finals bound, who else but us really.
38:10Undeniably it feels great.
38:12But the job's not finished.
38:14I told you guys from the start, I was coming here to win the whole thing.
38:18Unfortunately, we did have to wait an hour and a half for the other semi-final match
38:22to be played, and then the third place match to be played.
38:26While all of that was going on, I was sitting on my couch with a bag of frozen vegetables
38:30on my head, trying to shake this headache.
38:33Fast forward an hour and the grand finals are here, and we were put up against a demon
38:37squad.
38:38Their team is made up of Solar, who is a former pro, Alec26, a longtime friend of mine and
38:43also a former pro, and then the Grim Reaper himself, Killer17.
38:47He's also a former pro, but now he's the coach for Tribe Gaming.
38:51What makes this guy so scary is that he's known for being one of the best drafters in
38:56the world.
38:57It sounds silly, but he's creative, he's not afraid to take risks, and he comes up
39:00with some pretty crazy team comps.
39:03It's no surprise that the team he coaches is also one of the best teams in the world.
39:06This guy is a menace.
39:07It was the team that he coaches that Vegeta lost to in the monthly finals, and his drafts
39:12have beaten Vegeta more times than he can count.
39:15They've got a stacked team with world-class drafts, the odds were definitely not in our
39:19favor.
39:20You know, cuz we got two pros and one YouTuber.
39:22For the first match, we've got Brawl Ball on Triple Dribble, a map that we haven't
39:26played yet.
39:27And the draft goes a little bit like this.
39:29They give us Hank with the first pick, which is also new territory for us.
39:32They counter pick with Surge and Amber.
39:35We then follow up with Berry to form a diabolical Hank and Berry comp.
39:39And then we finish by taking Stew, to hopefully stop them from taking a thrower.
39:43However, they go Barley anyway, and it was time for the grand finals to start.
39:46My role heading into this match is to just keep everyone alive as long as I can.
39:51Sustainability is gonna be our key here.
39:53Things open up pretty quick as Vegeta kills Amber and Barley, and then I take out the
39:57Surge.
39:58It's a full team wipe.
39:59We push up as fast as we can, and we really try to lock them down in the back.
40:02It was then that I decided to activate my hyper charge to try and make a play.
40:05I dive in, keeping Zulon alive, and I weaken almost everyone on the opposing team.
40:10And then Vegeta seals the goal for us, and we were up 1-0, just like that.
40:13Moving forward, we just corner the ball and hunker down until we can find some eliminations.
40:17Somehow, someway at this point, Surge is still at tier 1, and to be honest, if we just keep
40:22him there, there isn't much that he can do.
40:24They try their best to push in, but after this god tier play from me, game 1 was set
40:29and done.
40:30Grand finals, winning the first map?
40:31It feels great, I'm gonna be honest.
40:33However, our opponents weren't exactly content with that, and they have a way better opening
40:37in game 2.
40:38Despite my best efforts to defend here, nothing can be done, and they score.
40:41Something to note is that Surge already found his way to tier 2, and they quickly put us
40:46in a trap.
40:47It was really well played from them.
40:48Their carnage ensues, and they score the second goal, bringing this set to match point.
40:52The key factor here is the Surge.
40:54If Solar gets his tier 2 a little too fast in this one, it could really make things hard
40:58for us.
40:59And as good players do, he begins popping off, and once again, they're able to push
41:02us all the way back.
41:04In the amber fire, barley supers, and Surge shots raining in, we were on a sinking ship.
41:09And eventually, they find their way to the back of the net, taking a 1-0 lead.
41:12The match goes on, and we find a bit of an opening.
41:15Zulon finds the kills onto Killer and Solar, and Vegeta unleashes his hypercharge to find
41:19a kill onto Alec.
41:20At this point, there's just under a minute left, and we have a golden opportunity to
41:24make something happen.
41:25But after he respawns, Solar makes a huge play.
41:27He runs up just to grab the ball before we can, and he corners it.
41:31And with 15 seconds left, and barley using his hypercharge, there wasn't much we could
41:35do to salvage that.
41:36And our opponents end up winning the first set.
41:38For us to win the first match, and then losing two in a row, is not a good feeling.
41:42It's one thing to lose 2-0, but to feel like it's actually winnable for a second, and to
41:46realize what you could have done differently, is devastating.
41:50But we've got more sets to play, so I couldn't mope for too long.
41:53Next up, we had a heist match on Hot Potato.
41:55This one we played a bunch by now, and we knew exactly what we wanted to take.
41:58More aggressive brawlers, again.
42:00So we banned Mazzy, Oli, and Cordelius, who ruined our plans last time.
42:04We open things up with Nita, as to avoid any pesky tanks that they can take.
42:07With our first pick, they pick Berry.
42:09I'm not gonna lie, it's a little weird.
42:11And here, we knew something weird was about to go down, but we didn't know how weird it
42:15was gonna get.
42:16After that, they take Carl.
42:17We haven't seen him played here yet, but he doesn't exactly ruin our plans.
42:21We wanted Buzz, who does play well into Carl and Berry, so we took him.
42:24And finally, to finish our aggro comp, we take Edgar.
42:28And when I said things were gonna get weird, I mean that they take Doug.
42:31Yes, that Doug.
42:33The worst brawler in the game, Doug.
42:35I mentioned Killer was known for cooking up some weird comps, and here we are.
42:39The worst part about all of this is that it actually worked.
42:42Doug being healed by Berry while also healing himself is just crazy.
42:46Okay, it's crazy.
42:47Zulon and Vegeta couldn't even get close to the Wiener Man, and really, they just straight
42:51up ran it down.
42:52Game 1 ends almost before it even starts.
42:54In Game 2, it was more of the same.
42:56They run right up the middle of the map.
42:58I mean, look at Vegeta.
42:59He tries to jump in and just gets deleted.
43:02Zulon tries to push, Vegeta tries to push, and they both get instantly blasted off of
43:06the map.
43:07Like, we literally couldn't do anything about this, and we lose Game 2.
43:10That right there is a really big blow to the morale of the team.
43:14Just losing to a Doug.
43:15I could feel the frustration for both of my teammates here.
43:18There was nothing we could do, and it's just aggravating, to say the least.
43:21But me, I like to look at it like we're not down 2-0 in the series.
43:24Each game is a completely new match.
43:26So next up, we've got Hot Zone on Ring of Fire.
43:29We wanted to take Liu here with our first pick, so we banned Poco.
43:32And of course, Killer knows this, and he bans Liu.
43:35Now, we take Juju with our first pick, and looking back on this, I'm really not sure
43:39how these two brawlers went unbanned or picked by either team so far, but they take Hank
43:44and instantly take Mr. P. Two of the best brawlers in the game.
43:48It's just a weird draft from our team, okay?
43:50This is when we realize, though, that if we want to take down Killer, we need to do something
43:54weird.
43:55We need to do something out of the box.
43:57And that's when Zulon mentions that he's seen some pretty crazy Meeple strategies here,
44:01with his box gadget just being spammed in the middle of the map.
44:05One hundred percent unorthodox, but we all agree that it's our best chance to shake
44:09things up a little bit.
44:10So we take Meeple and Maisie.
44:11They end things out by taking Leon, and set three was ready to start.
44:15We're actually able to handle Hank pretty quick, but Vegeta dies to Alec, and then Mr.
44:19P. takes me out.
44:20After that, we were forced into an awful spawn trap.
44:23Hank was just sitting in our bush, and we really didn't have a way to get rid of him.
44:26We do our best to eventually get him out, but not before they build up a massive lead.
44:30So far, our strategy was just not working.
44:33We need control of the map if we wanted to implement what we wanted to do, which we do
44:37get to at some point.
44:38We saw glimmers of hope as we mount a comeback, but even that just gets put to bed after Alec
44:42sneaks in behind and picks up two kills.
44:45And then he picks up another two-piece, and they go on to win the first map.
44:49Once again, it was match point, and our backs were against the wall.
44:52This time, we organized a way better opening.
44:54Hank goes over to the left side for some reason, and Zulon is able to push up and get the box
44:58down.
44:59Overall, the game was tied at about 26 points, but things were looking really good for us.
45:03We take out Alec when he's behind us, and we get the push up once again.
45:07We were slowly building a lead, and Zulon gets another meeple box down.
45:11They team up to kill Hank, which is a huge relief for us, and then we end up taking out
45:14Alec once more.
45:16Zulon continues to spam the box down, completely preventing these guys from rotating or controlling
45:20the middle of the map at all.
45:22This was it.
45:23Our strategy was actually working, and we managed to win, forcing it to another game
45:27three.
45:28The opening that we planned out and tried to use in game two was for me to use the invis
45:32gadget, walk on the water, and spam slowing shots at Hank so he can't get into our grass.
45:37Sure enough, Hank returns to my lane, and even with Juju's water slowing shot, he still
45:42barges his way into our grass.
45:44Anyway, things go from bad to worse for us as our whole team falls, and they get set
45:47up once again.
45:49It was so difficult to push them out of here, especially with our comp.
45:51Our team was so good when we got control, but it was really difficult when they pushed
45:55us back and we had to get them out of our spawn.
45:57So we send Vegeta into the bush to take on the Hank, while Zulon uses his meeple super
46:01to force the Leon backwards.
46:03Things go exactly according to plan, and we escape the prison that is our spawn.
46:07There's a little bit of hope, but it all comes crashing down when Hank uses his hypercharge
46:12to force us back once again.
46:14Slowly but surely, they were building up their lead here.
46:16But even after this insane double kill from Vegeta, and me taking out Alec, Hank and Mr.
46:20P come back to storm the middle, and just like that, our tournament was over.
46:24Although we got 3-0'd, two of those matches were actually winnable.
46:28The dug and heist match was just cooked from the start, okay?
46:30But overall, I had a great experience competing in this.
46:33Once again, shoutout to my teammates for being legends and actually being helpful, it means
46:37a lot to me.
46:38Obviously I'm not a pro nor the best player here, but I did everything I could.
46:41Also shoutout to Genie for tossing me an invite, you guys should subscribe to his channel right
46:45here, he's closing in on 100,000 subscribers.
