00:00An analyst said DAP Secretary-General Lok Siew Fook has emerged as the biggest winner
00:07in the party's elections yesterday.
00:10James Chin of the University of Tasmania said Lok's push for a third-generation leadership
00:15has paid off, while his predecessor Lim Kwan Eng became the biggest loser of the night.
00:22Chin said Kwan Eng suffered a major setback, with many of his allies failing to secure
00:27top positions in the Central Executive Committee, indicating a decline in the former chairman's
00:33influence in the party.
00:36Kwan Eng was re-elected to DAP's top leadership despite only finishing 26th out of the top
00:4130, garnering 1,719 votes.
00:46The CEC later appointed him as advisor, while Gobind Singh Deo, who topped the polls with
00:512,785 votes, took over from him as DAP chairman.
00:57Meanwhile, Asmi Hassan of Academy Nusantara said Gobind's popularity stemmed from his
01:03apparent neutral stance amid internal bickering in DAP, which made him a natural choice for
01:09the delegates.
01:10Asmi said with Lok remaining as Secretary-General, DAP's relationship with UMNO is expected to
01:16strengthen due to his diplomatic approach, contrasting with Kwan Eng's more outright
01:22and brutal stance.
