As the Brisbane 2032 Olympic games edges closer there are growing concerns about more facilities not being up to scratch with a major sport at risk of being moved outside the state. Tennis' governing body says if significant work isn't done on local grounds there will be no choice but to take matches elsewhere.

00:00It's Australia's home of tennis in the city which touts itself as the sporting capital.
00:09Melbourne is more than 1,700 kilometres away from Brisbane, but if major improvements to
00:15the Queensland Tennis Centre aren't made, it's possible Rod Laver Arena could steal
00:20part of the city's 2032 Olympic glory.
00:24This facility, the Queensland Tennis Centre, isn't fit for purpose.
00:28Tennis' governing body says it desperately needs a $113 million facelift.
00:34And it would be a travesty if they weren't held in Brisbane.
00:36That said, if we can't get the funding and the required number of courts and seating
00:43here at the Queensland Tennis Centre, then we'll have to look elsewhere.
00:46The suggestion sending the event south.
00:49I'm not surprised that people look to Melbourne.
00:51We of course have the best sporting facilities in Australia.
00:55Tennisers and fans of the game don't want to miss out on the hometown spotlight.
01:00Tennis for kids is so large in Brisbane, so I think it would be absolutely fantastic for
01:03it to be here.
01:04Melbourne gets pretty much everything, so at least give Brisbane some crumbs.
01:10The feasibility study includes a 3,000 seat arena to complement the already 7,000 seats
01:16here at the Pat Rafter Arena.
01:18Tennis Queensland says that and an additional eight courts would make the centre Olympics
01:23ready.
01:24This is just one of a number of concerns raised about Brisbane's readiness for the global
01:29sporting spectacle.
01:31An independent review conducted into infrastructure, including plans for the main stadium, has
01:37been completed and handed to the government last week.
01:40We should not be playing second fiddle to Melbourne.
01:43I call on the Premier to rule that out straight away.
01:47But as we've been very clear, we will announce on March the 25th what our plans are around
01:52where the events will be held.
01:54Until then, a waiting game.
