00:00You say Ireland is a very small place. It's obviously even smaller than you would think because you're from Cork
00:06A stone's throw away from where my dad was born. So for people aren't familiar with Ireland County Cork
00:12I think is the third largest County Cork City might be the second largest city behind Dublin
00:17But County Cork holds island Ireland in its hand
00:20It covers most of the southern part of Ireland and my dad was grew up a stone's throw away from you
00:27He was on Horse Island, and I believe you said that you're from Cope. We kind of know what Mexican fighters do
00:32We know what Eastern European fighters do we know what the Cuban fighters do?
00:37We know all this kind of stuff. Can you describe what the typical Irish fighting style is and what people can expect this weekend?
00:44You know, I think the Irish fighting style. I think we have a good amateur system going in Ireland
00:48No, if you go to amateur boxing style, I think what was different for me, you know, I came from that
00:53Big amateur background and then came over here to and then train with Freddie Roach, you know
00:59I mean, so I feel like my style maybe compared to some of the other fighters the other Irish fighters is different, you know
01:04But but in terms of the Irish people, you know, we've got fighting Irish spirit, you know going back in history
01:09You know resilient people, you know, very very strong and a lot of heart, you know in the Irish people, you know
01:14So I think every Irish fighter no matter where they train or who's their coach and we all have that heart
01:20You know, we all have that that will to win and the desire to fight I suppose
01:24I'm telling you right now. I'm in your corner, obviously
01:28I enjoy watching your clips. I enjoy watching your fights the whole thing about it
01:33but I'm also very bulled up on you because you're being trained by Freddie and because you have guys like Tim who are in
01:37Here with you. I like I remember when Tim had first come into Barstool came in with triple G
01:42You know as a young man, and it seemed like you have the right people behind you to
01:47To move your career along in the right way
01:50I
01:50want to get this out of the way because I was speaking to one of our UFC guys here Big Ev and I had mentioned
01:55That you were coming in and he had said right away
01:57Dana White loves this fucking kid Dana White just likes watching this kid fight and it reminds me almost of Dave Portnoy
02:05My boss here at Barstool like even if it has nothing to do with Barstool if he likes the way somebody I don't know just
02:13Executes on any other platform. He tries to promote that as well
02:16Talk to me about your relationship with Dana
02:18Being on the UFC fight pass and all this stuff like a lot of people have seen what you can do so far for a very
02:24young man
02:25Yeah, you know, that's what it's all about is about your work that you work etiquette suppose and like
02:30Doing your job, you know, I mean not just having a personality and not being good in front of a camera
02:34It's about going out there and finishing fights and getting the wins, you know, and I think that's what Dana sees in me
02:40You know, I I do good enough, you know and interviews of that, but obviously I work even harder in the gym
02:45I mean I work as hard as possible, you know, and I go in there and I tried to finish fights, you know
02:50And I don't pick and choose opponents, you know, I'm not
02:53Picking and choosing where to go. I'm bringing like the same kind of UFC mentality, you know, like like what Dana's doing right now
02:59He's making his own league, you know
03:01I mean with that same mindset of boxing is a lot of pick and choosing
03:05You know, there's there's different paths you can take there's ways you can avoid people
03:09I've never turned down an opponent in my career, you know, I'm willing to fight whoever they put in front of me
03:13I'm because I want to be the best and I'm very driven to be the best fighter in the world and I know
03:18The only way you can do that is if you beat the best, you know, so that sounds fucking great
03:22It does sound great. But being realistic, let's see at last year's st
03:26Pat's bout where you stop you lessen off in nine rounds your ass
03:29How would it feel to enter the top ten in the hundred fifty four division? This is you I don't give a fuck
03:35Just give me more fights. Give me fights. Give me opponents
03:38I'll get in there and I'll put on a show for the Irish people
03:41Like I always do now who's next but we also know you're probably not in your prime right now
03:48This kid is going to be very this kid is going to be an elite fighter in a couple of years. I call you kid
03:55I don't mean to be disrespectful
03:56I've called a lot of Irish people kids and I've gotten punched in the fucking mouth
03:59But this kid is 24 years old so that any time any place any one mentality
04:06Who dials that back for you and says hey listen?
04:10Not that you're protecting me
04:11Oh
04:12but you do have to sort of be put in a little bit of bubble at this early part in your career and not jump
04:18Up and start to fight the elite just yet before you become one of the elite
04:22Yeah, you know like like that quote there that was that was right after a fight
04:25That was I was right after a fight, you know
04:27I was fired up, you know right after a fight and I say but I said if you didn't say that like I love that
04:32Moxie but but go ahead
04:34I'm so like a lot of times, you know
04:35I say like I because it's true like I don't give a fuck like who I fight
04:38I don't give a fuck like put a man in front of me and I don't I'm not scared to fight anybody
04:42You know a man the same as me two arms two legs, you know, I mean and at the end of day
04:46I don't give a fuck but in terms of yeah being the best and and and
04:51Becoming a world champion. I do go fucking like I say it I act like I don't but I do you know deep down
04:56I don't want to go back to Cork and get back on a fishing boat
04:59I don't mean if you know what I mean?
05:00So like at the end of the day, I work very hard, you know
05:03And I train very hard and obviously in the back of my head. I want to be the best, you know
05:08I know I'm very this is this I feel like this is what I'm destined to do
05:11You know, I'm I'm here to be the best friend in the world, you know, I always felt that my whole life
05:16You know, I never wanted to just go to work. I wanted to settle for I always knew I had more, you know
05:22so I say don't give a fuck but I do you know and
05:25Yeah, the team that I have obviously to what you're saying with with fights right now going in top ten. I'm already ranked number six
05:31Me mentally and and I don't care no put whoever in front of me. I don't care what they're ranked
05:36I probably you know, I don't really watch the fights
05:38I'll just fight the man in front of me and I'll do my best to win, you know
05:41I'll do whatever it takes to win the fight. But yeah, like you said, no, I have a very good team around me
05:46they know what they're doing, you know, they're giving me the
05:48the right fights in the right times, you know, and
05:52Yeah, that's like I said, do I don't I don't pick and choose opponents?
05:55They just they just pick in they're obviously picking the right fights to maybe help me grow and tell like you said
06:01I'm in my prime
06:01But I have to apologize because I feel like I'm at a family function when I hear your accent
06:06The Cork accent is a very specific thing
06:08And I think there's probably a chance that we're related at some point like a McCarthy from Cork. We're dogshit
06:14We're all over the place over there, right? I said very dark hair
06:17Yeah, this I'm starting to reminisce a little bit over there
06:20But how about that hometown hero type thing?
06:22Like it's come to New York show everybody what you got celebrate st. Patrick's Day while you're here
06:27How's the heroes return for you every time you go back to Ireland to the old sod and start to see the people?
06:33Yeah, no, it's definitely growing, you know, but I feel like I'm from a very small town
06:37You know Cove is like six seven thousand people, you know, I mean so even growing up, you know
06:41I had a lot of support there, you know, I I brought six Irish national titles back there
06:46I brought a European gold medal back there, you know, and I when I was 17 years old, you know
06:49I mean so it's like people knew but when I turned pro obviously I came over here and I didn't go back for a long
06:55Time, you know, I was just out here fighting and so I think
06:58My last fight that was in Dublin. I think that was a real eye-opener for for everybody, you know, I think
07:04We put on a massive show over there, you know, Dana was there with Freddie Roach. Everybody was there, you know
07:09We put on a big card in Dublin
07:12I think a lot of people got to to really see you know
07:15How big of a deal this is and and and and what I'm actually doing, you know
07:18Because it is hard for people to to follow through a phone, you know, or to see someone on on TV, you know
07:23but when you're actually there in person and you see what's going on, I think that's when they they realize like
07:30How big of a deal this is what I'm doing because now in my in my hometown in Cork City
07:35There's there's billboards with me now, you know leading up to this fight, you know for people supporting me, you know
07:39So it's crazy and there's a lot of people coming over, you know, my grandmother is flying over from from Cove, you know
07:44So so it'll be good Sunday, you know, and I'm getting a lot. Yeah a lot of support back from Cork
07:48yeah, how about we set up a ring in the middle of the dog track at Cork City because we were just talking on the
07:54Way in when you got over there you sell that thing out
07:56I mean it after that scaffolding to the fucking place have people hanging off the rafters
08:00We do half-priced drinks and we just have a hell of a night. Yeah, definitely
08:04I know in between the voice could have a dog race then
08:06That's the way you do it only get fellas gambling on on the races when we're but I would love to fight in Cork
08:12Yeah, that's that's that's a a big goal for me
08:14You know to get back and and fight in Cork because I fought in Dublin, you know, so now I need to get back to Cork
08:19How do you feel about the American fans?
08:21I remember particularly the Irish American fans when Katie Taylor who we also spoke a little bit about before we started
08:27Taping came over for that first
08:29Amanda Serrano fight Serrano Taylor. We're an MSG for it. Dave was there Dan was there
08:35We had a whole bunch of people there from Barstool
08:37there was so impressed by that fight and that atmosphere and the reason that atmosphere was so great is because
08:44Amanda Serrano
08:45Came into MSG thinking that the Puerto Rican contingent here in New York would be so fucking loud
08:52But she didn't count on one thing and that's Irish people are some of the loudest motherfuckers in the face of the earth
08:59So, how do you feel about the Irish American support that you've gotten here so far in the US?
09:04Going into this big card on
09:06Saturday night in MSG that I need you guys to either show up to or watch because you're seeing somebody who's going to be a
09:12Generational fighter, but how do you feel the American Irish American fans have embraced you?
09:17I tell you one thing and I didn't see no Puerto Rican bars when I was walking over here
09:21But I seen about 50 Irish bars in there. You know what I mean?
09:27The Irish support out here is massive, you know, the Irish culture out here in New York is is crazy
09:31You know, so you can only expect you know, like my own brother lives over here, you know, I mean, yeah
09:36I know I can expect like massive Irish support, you know
09:39Like what we're saying is there's there's big Irish support over here. And yeah, even last time I fought here
09:45You know that the Irish support over here is is crazy. And I think that night I was there
09:48yeah, we were there for that that Katie Taylor fight and
09:51Yeah, the Irish support
09:53Unbelievably and they love it, you know, especially when there's real fights, right? They're not they're not showing us
09:58They're not showing up to watch a fella run around the ring for 10 rounds. I mean, they're not showing up to watch a
10:03Five shit fights and then they get to the main event
10:06They're showing up to our show and they're gonna see real fights from the very first fight of the night
10:10To the to the main event the fans are gonna be there and they're gonna be entertained until I walk out
10:15You know what? I mean? And it's back-to-back good fight
10:17It's not like you go to some of these other boxing cards and you only go there for the main event and you're sitting in
10:22The crowd
10:25Yeah, and even if even if you showed up earlier sitting in the crowd for four or five hours bored
10:29You could because there you know
10:31Who's gonna win the fellas walk out to the ring?
10:33One fella has the best the gear everything on him and the other fella barely has shoes on
10:36I mean, you know who's gonna win the fight, you know what I'm saying?
10:39It's and it's I think everyone should take something from you know
10:43The shows that 360 promotions are putting on because you'll see it, you know Sunday
10:47You'll see the pro debut all the way up to me will be good entertaining fights back-to-back
10:52No, it's the exact same thing what the UFC does pro debut
10:55How much of a mentor do you feel you need to be for your Irish brothers on this card?
11:00Even though you're a 24 year old punk kid
11:02You know what? I mean?
11:03Like no, honestly like at this point in your career where you do have you know
11:07You've been on the big stage more than once and the stages are only gonna get bigger
11:11How do you feel for these guys you go in there and be like listen, don't piss yourself here
11:14But it's gonna be a little bit overwhelming. Like how do you prepare some of these guys?
11:18Yeah, no, they prepare themselves, you know, but at the end of the day, it's it's a good
11:23It's a good feeling
11:24you know being able to put on for the Irish and I've been able to put a show like this on and give
11:29Opportunities to up-and-coming Irish fighters, you know that maybe wouldn't have got the opportunity on on someone else's card
11:34You know what? I mean? So it feels like I'm giving back to the Irish people to you know, being able to
11:40Put on these shows and then have all up-and-coming Irish fighters fight as well, you know, and it's regular enough
11:46You know, we just were in Dublin September
11:48We had a massive Irish card and now we're in New York on another massive Irish card
11:52No, so I feel like we're giving the Irish a good
11:55Good opportunity, you know to bring the I feel like for a while, you know that the Irish boxing was gone down a bit
12:01You know, it was
12:03Yeah, you know it was it was Katie Taylor and Michael Connelly
12:06No, they were the people that were kind of doing and there was there was not much really happened only small shows
12:10You know, so now that we're out here and like I'm headlining the show
12:14But we still have because there's so much talent in Ireland
12:17I mean, there's so much talented fighters and we're putting a lot of them on, you know
12:20So it's good opportunity for them and it feels good to be able to do that
12:23Talk to me about your opponent Dean Sutherland Aberdeen Scotland 19 and 1 with 7 KOs
12:29And what's special about this kid that is not special enough that you're not gonna put him on his fucking back
12:35You know at the end of the day, it's like
12:38Anybody that's gonna show up to Madison Square Garden and fight in a main event no matter who you are where you're from
12:42You're going to be ready, you know
12:43I mean, there's gonna be a lot of motivation for him to fight here and to perform, you know
12:47So I know he's gonna be at his very best, you know, and but that makes it even better when I beat him
12:51you know, there can't be any excuses, you know, I mean, so you're gonna show up at your very best and
12:55For this opportunity you're going to show up at your best. So I know I'm beating the best version of everybody
12:59I fight, you know what I mean? That's they're getting big opportunities and
13:02You know, I he's been beaten before, you know
13:05he's been he's been stopped before and I think I have a lot more power than than most people and
13:10I think my power is gonna be big difference in this fight with me and Dean 24 years old
13:16You're very comfortable in front of a microphone, and I think that's
13:20Huge per, you know, particularly for promoters, you know when you you go through most of your career or part of your career
13:27Promoting people where there's a language barrier or something like that
13:30Do you ever just get tired of coming in and speaking to assholes like me when you have a lot more me offering you something?
13:36Knowing that you may have to cut weight, you know
13:37And like I'm like, yeah, you want to go get you a milkshake or something like that?
13:41But how much does it and is that a distraction for a kid like you because it's not just you know
13:46Gym home back to the gym and then into a ring now
13:50We have to be this promotional machine everywhere
13:53We can and you're the type of guy who can baby face this thing into the next level with your social media following and beyond
14:01Yeah, you know at the start I kinda
14:04Was worried about what I would say on interview. I was kind of trying to think about what I would say
14:08But no, I don't give a fucking I mean I got to a stage where I realized, you know, whatever I say, it's too late
14:12It's already gonna be out there. I mean, so there's no point worrying about it, you know
14:15Yeah, I just started to like and I told a lot of body, you know, I'm always gonna be myself
14:19You know, I just want to be myself and if people like me they like me for who I actually am, you know
14:23I'm not gonna try to fake it and try to be someone I'm not, you know, so I'm just
14:28Myself, I'm just chilling, you know, I can talk to the microphone. No problem, and you know, they like me or hate me
14:33But at least I'll know
14:34It's actually me, you know that you don't like and not me trying to be someone else, you know
14:38But I don't think this is a distraction. I wouldn't say not not this far out, you know
14:42It's part of the job has to be done, you know, I mean, I have to promote the fights
14:45I have to be able to sell tickets for these events, you know, and and it helps the people to actually know you
14:51You know when you're when you're getting in there, you know, so I think it's all part of it
14:55You know having a relationship with somebody who's UFC fighter, right? You're still dating baby shark, right?
15:01So my wife and I both worked on the floor the stock exchange together
15:05So we sort of pushed each other's in different ways than you do much of a benefit
15:10It is that like hey, listen fatty. You gotta you gotta fight a month away or something like that
15:15You're not gonna go out and do the road work when I'm going out to the world
15:18I've never had a woman that I've been in a relationship with push me physically outside of bedroom, you know
15:23I'm saying but no, so how is that then?
15:26Exactly, but you're out the fucking door. But how is that?
15:29I mean is it one of those things where you're competitive even with her in the prep process?
15:33Yeah, definitely nobody but it helps a lot, you know, even our lifestyle is very clean, you know
15:37Like we live together and we have clean food in the house, you know, and it's not like, you know
15:42If I'm if I'm training for a fight
15:44She's helping me, you know, and then usually once I'm finished my fight
15:48She's she gets a fight and then we're like back-to-back camps, you know
15:50But and obviously at the end of the day, you don't want your girlfriend training harder than you, you know
15:54So I know you can't so it's like if she's waking up in the morning to go for a run if she's waking up to go
15:58For an early session. I'm like I fuck I need to get out of bed. Don't go and do something
16:01You know, I've it or the other way around, you know, you don't want to just be lazy, you know
16:05Yeah, so it does help, you know, especially like when you're someone like that, you know, I'm a may fighter because she trains so much
16:11You know, it's like they do different sessions, you know, they're going to kickboxing or they're going to my tire next thing. They're going to
16:18Jiu-jitsu and on it. Whereas I'm just boxing. I'm just punching things
16:21I'm like I need to make a make up for this. No, I need to go for a run
16:23Does it scare the shit out of you?
16:25I think the only way my wife's gonna kill me is if she slits my throat the middle of the night
16:28But you don't know if all of a sudden on the backs, you know on her bad side. She you know mounts you
16:36Respectful and chokes your fucking ass out like, you know, I mean without a ref in the room a little bit terrifying at times
16:42No, I'm a much
16:44Bigger bigger than her, you know, I feel like I'm stronger, you know, but no I've I wonder if she would say something now
16:50We've grappled. We've yeah, I can grapple a bit. I can have a bit of grappling experience
16:54You know, so we we train together. Yeah, we but she's strong. Yeah, she's
17:00If she I'd say if she locked up a choker she could
17:04Probably get you there because she's quick to is she she's quick. That's one of the things you're known for it very quick hands
17:09Yeah, we're not now with the grappling
17:10It's like she's already four steps ahead by the time I'm thinking about this once she already has three more submissions planned
17:16You know, I mean, so yeah, well if I could throw a few punches though, that's it
17:19I know no fighters don't want to look ahead
17:21But is there some sort of trajectory that you're looking at now down the road for a four kalem wall Walsh?
17:27Like what's next? I know we got to get through this fight on Saturday. But what's next? Where do you see yourself?
17:33How many times a year you're gonna be fighting? What's what's next? Yeah, you know, I've fight as much as I can, you know, and
17:39Who knows, you know, we'd see what what Dana's planning. We'll see what my team has planned for me and
17:46Who knows, you know, I didn't know I'll fight anybody
17:48So just they just need to give me another date as long as I come out of this fight clean
17:51No injuries all that just give me the next day and we'll move on
17:56All right
17:56So this guy is gonna take over the boxing world and it's starting probably two or three years ago
18:02But it's continuing this Saturday. So if you can get to the theater at Madison Square Garden, it's on this one son. Excuse me
18:08Um, but yeah Sunday March. I'm gonna be there. I apologize saying Sunday
18:11I'm obviously a little bit loopy Sunday, March 16th the theater in Madison Square Garden
18:17And if you want to be watching this at home
18:19We're doing it through the UFC fight pass
18:21UFC fight pass is where you're gonna be able to see this young gentleman put on an absolute clinic in front of his countrymen in front
18:27Of the Irish American and in front of me and my wife on Sunday
18:30I wish you nothing but the best of luck Callum Walsh and I hope to have you back here again after you win a shitload
18:35of championships
18:38Absolutely, we'll be back Barstool boxing
